Chapter 22 Human-shaped Ice Maker
When Lin Ge and Lanya walked out of Allison’s magic item store, Lanya had a different staff in her arms.
The staff was almost as tall as her, and it was black and shiny. A dark blue gem was embedded at the top, making it look mysterious and elegant.
Lanya hugged the staff and rubbed her delicate face against the body of the staff, her eyes full of joy.
This staff was priced at 2888 gold, something which she had never even dared to think about. She had already decided to sleep with this staff.
As for her original wand that looked like a branch, she had already sold it to Allison at a low price of only 10 gold.
On the other side, a new short black cloak appeared on Lin Ge’s shoulder.
This was the product that the shop owner, Allison, had strongly recommended after learning that Lin Ge had just registered as a magic apprentice the day before.
Allison was also a member of the Mage Guild, and she had passed the primary examination to become an official mage. According to her, this cloak had the effect of promoting the circulation of magic energy and was especially suitable for new mages to accumulate magic energy, as well as speed up the casting of spells. So, Lin Ge bought it.
In addition, there was a silver ring on his right index finger. It was a storage ring with close to three cubic meters of space within.
He had also bought a magic staff for himself and placed it in the silver ring.
Other than a black magic staff, there was also a thick yellow-covered book in the silver ring. Allison had sold it to him. It was a blank magic book that could photocopy the contents of other books.
The book seemed to be only as thick as a brick, but it had a hundred thousand pages. Allison had suggested to him that he make a copy of all the introductory magic books in the Mage Guild’s collection that he was interested in. That way, even if he was on a journey, he would be able to learn about magic at any time.
Lin Ge had originally wanted to buy some magic scrolls, but after buying all these items, he had only 300 gold left, which was not enough to buy any magic scrolls.
According to Allison, it was only because Lin Ge was a newcomer to the Mage Guild that she had given him a 20% discount since she was his senior. She had already made a loss by selling him the items at such a low price. Otherwise, Lin Ge would not have even a single gold coin left on him.
As a senior, she had also recommended a book for Lin Ge who was new to magic. It was called “A Guide to Magic Theory and Practice”, which could be found in the Mage Guild’s collection. After leaving Allison’s shop, Lin Ge returned to the Mage Guild once more. This time, he was there for the collection of books in the guild’s library.
First, he found the book named “A Guide to Magic Theory and Practice” and copied its contents onto the blank magic book. Then, he walked around the rows of bookshelves and copied down any book with titles that he found interesting.
He only stopped after he had photocopied about a hundred books. They would be enough for him to read for a long time.
After leaving the Mage Guild, he used the remaining gold coins to buy a bed and a set of velvet bedding, which he put in his storage ring. Then, he returned to the resting room of the bar, where he placed the bed and bedding in the corner.
He had already decided to stay in the bar for the time being. When he received his salary the next month, he would rent a single apartment in the nearby community.
Lanya also came over, planning to get a free place to stay. The sofa in the main hall was very soft. Although it was not big, it was enough for her petite body. It was a very good bed for her. She only needed to prepare a quilt and she could sleep comfortably there.
At night, Lin Ge lay on his bed in the lounge and read “A Guide to Magic Theory and Practice”. He thus gained a deeper understanding of the magic of this world.
There were three sources of magic energy for mages to cast spells. The first source was magic energy accumulated by mages. This type of magic energy could be mobilized the fastest and had an advantage in casting speed, but there was a limit to the amount of magic energy each mage could store. Depending on the individual’s aptitude, they might face the dilemma of not having enough magic energy when casting large-scale spells.
The second source was magic energy stored in other carriers like magic stones, magic-replenishing potions, and staffs. Depending on the carrier, the difficulty of mobilizing the magic energy would be different, and the casting speed would generally be slower than the first source of magic energy.
The sapphire he got the day before belonged to this category.
The third source was the manipulation of magic energy in the natural environment. Most of the high-level and large-scale spells belonged to this category. They required a certain amount of time to channel, but their effects and power were usually great. Lin Ge followed the method in the book and started meditating. With his high talent, he quickly entered the state.
He could feel the weak magic energy in the air, as well as the abundant magic energy in the sapphire in his arms, which was like a small sun.
In the state of meditation, he could clearly feel his magic energy capacity. He was like an empty bucket, and the sapphire in his arms was like a reservoir. He had only absorbed an insignificant trace of the magic energy, but it could already fill him to the brim.
The full-tank magic energy didn’t bring any changes to his body. It only made him feel a little more awake.
He eagerly turned the pages to one that recorded specific magic spells. This page recorded a basic magic training called “Water Creation”. When he saw this, the first thought that came to mind was, “Just this? Isn’t it too simple?”
To prove that he was not delusional, Lin Ge spread out his palms and activated the magic energy in his body according to the recorded method.
In the next moment, his palm was like a fountain, suddenly spraying water. “Oh! I succeeded on the first try. Could it be that my intelligence attribute is also very high?”
The two basic attributes of a mage were intelligence and magic energy capacity. Lin Ge’s talent was already above average, but he wondered what level his intelligence was since he could learn basic spells with a single glance. There was a senior magic apprentice outside the resting room. He might as well ask her.
When Lin Ge arrived at the bar’s main hall, he found that Lanya had already fallen asleep on the sofa. Her petite body was covered with a thin purple blanket, and her sleeping face had a smile on it. She looked quiet and beautiful. She was still hugging the brand new staff that Lin Ge had bought for her as if she was hugging a bolster. The end of the staff that was inlaid with a gem stuck out of her arms, and even when she was asleep, she would occasionally rub her face against it. Seeing this, Lin Ge did not wake her up.
When he walked past the bar counter, he saw the ice maker on the counter and had an idea. What if he used magic to make ice? He immediately returned to the resting room and flipped through his magic book, looking for magic related to ice.
“Ah, I found it. Ice magic.” He held the book in his left hand and spread out his right hand. A small spray of water sprayed out from his palm again, and under his control, it formed a small water cube. Then, according to the technique recorded in the book, he transformed the nature of the magic energy in his body and unleashed it from his palm.
A cold air rose from his palm, and the water cube floating on his palm quickly froze into ice, forming a completely transparent ice cube without any impurities. It was beautiful. The ice block landed on his palm. Lin Ge stared at the pure ice block and smiled. With this, it would be much more convenient to add ice when mixing drinks in the future. An ice maker?
He could probably throw it away. When the shop was opened for business the next day, he would try to create ice using magic.
