Chapter 24 Trained Before
As necromancers often dealt with the undead and specters, not only were they not respected, but they were even regarded as ominous and evil existences. They were basically not welcomed anywhere.
Lanya didn’t want to become a necromancer, but her talent seemed to be focused on the necromancing element. Her magic talent in other elements was a mess. She couldn’t even master basic spells like fireballs and wind blades, and her hit rate was less than one-tenth.
She did not want to expose her identity as a necromancer, so she could only use magic that she was not good at, which was why no team was willing to take her in.
In the face of Lin Ge’s question, Lanya lowered her head, “I’m sorry. I’m an evil necromancer. Please forgive me for hiding it from you.”
“Have you ever disturbed the sleeping dead?” Lin Ge asked.
Necromancers could use summon souls from the corpses and forcefully control their bodies. The more powerful their target was when they were alive, the more powerful their combat power would be.
This was also the reason why most necromancers loved heading to various underground graves. If they could find a powerful corpse, it would greatly increase their combat power.
Lanya quickly shook her head, “No. I’ve only summoned undead creatures from the underworld. I’ve never had any ideas about anyone’s grave.”
“If that’s the case,” Lin Ge said with a gentle smile, “Then it doesn’t matter. Don’t worry, I won’t look at you with judging eyes.”
“Then, are you still willing to team up with me?” Lanya asked in a low voice.
“Of course, when I get off work today, we’ll complete the Adventurer Guild registration mission.”
Lanya raised her head, her eyes sparkling as she said in surprise, “Really?”
“Of course.”
“That’s great. Thank you, Lin Ge.”
Lanya was overjoyed and her eyes were full of joy.
After she had calmed down a little, she thought of a realistic problem, “But can we do it with just the two of us?”
Lin Ge raised his left hand, and a flame appeared in his palm. He said confidently, “I’ve already learned some spells last night, and I can’t wait to try them out.”
“Wow, how did you learn so fast? This level of magic flames should be able to take care of those spiders that are afraid of fire.”
Seeing the flame in Lin Ge’s palm, Lanya felt that the registration mission was in the bag. She was happy again as if she could see the wonderful scene of her becoming an official adventurer.
After work, Lin Ge went to the resting room to change his clothes. Just as he had expected, after transforming the resting room into a bedroom, Neelu no longer slept on the sofa. Instead, she slept on his bed.
He glanced at the bed. Neelu was sleeping soundly with the blanket between her legs. One side of her body was exposed, revealing her graceful curves.
He changed his clothes, then tried to wake Neelu up.
“Wake up, it’s time to knock off.”
Neelu stretched and sat up. Two of the buttons on her shirt accidentally popped open.
“Oh, is it time so soon? Do you need the bed now?” She mumbled with her eyes closed as if she hadn’t slept enough.
“I need to take a trip out of the city,” Lin Ge said.
“That’s great. I’ll sleep for a while longer then. This bed is too comfortable,” Neelu fell back into the soft, fluffy bedding.
Lin Ge shook his head helplessly and left the resting room. Lanya was waiting excitedly outside the door, her little face flushed.
“Let’s go.”
“Yeah!” Lanya clenched her staff and nodded hard.
The land outside of Castaron was flat, and the low hills were covered with blanket-like grass. The wide dirt road meandered into the distance and forked at the foot of a hill.
Lin Ge followed the path and climbed over a low hill. The refreshing wind of the plains ruffled his magic cloak, and he held a pitch-black staff in his hand.
The staff was about 1.5 meters long and had a moderate thickness. It was just right for Lin Ge to hold in one hand, and it was extremely comfortable to hold. According to Allison, staff was made of rare magic-conducting metal that had extremely good magic energy flow and the was limited in production. Three thousand gold would definitely be worth it.
The top of the staff was slightly thicker with a blue gem embedded there. The gem reflected the sunlight and was dazzling.
Being 1.5 meters long, the staff was considered extremely large. Since it was made of rare metal, it was slightly heavy, though it was just right for Lin Ge.
He leaned on the staff and stood on the hillside, looking into the distance. There was a green plain in front of him, and at the end of his vision was a tall and continuous mountain range, like a giant dragon entrenched on the earth.
The spider’s cave in the registration mission was located at the outermost part of the mountain range, about a four to five hours journey from Castaron.
Today was the sixth day of his starting work in the bar. According to the contract, he had a day off for every six days of work. Tomorrow was his rest day, so he decided to accompany Lanya to complete the Adventurer’s Guild registration mission outside the city and try out the new magic he had learned while he was at it.
As the two of them were walking on the road, they suddenly heard the hurried sound of horse hooves behind them. Lin Ge and Lanya walked to the side of the road and prepared to make way. Lin Ge turned his head and saw a group galloping down the hill. The people on the backs of the horses were all wearing black robes. Lanya grabbed Lin Ge’s arm nervously, “What a strong sense of hostility. They seem to be coming for us. Let’s run.”
“Coming for us?” Lin Ge asked in surprise, “It can’t be, right?”
He didn’t even know many people in this world, let alone make enemies.
While they were talking, the group had already approached and slowed down. There were seven people in total, and they surrounded Lin Ge and Lanya.
Lin Ge finally saw the true appearance of the group. Hidden under the black robes were lizard heads, and a section of their tails could be seen.
He suddenly thought of something and his expression turned ugly.
Could these guys be the ones who were trying to assassinate Prince Lieyang? Could it be that they had seen him running with the Prince in the dark that day, and now that Prince Lieyang had disappeared, they had their eyes on him?
The other party didn’t give him much time to think. With a deep command – “Capture him!” Six lizardmen jumped off their horses at the same time and pulled out their scimitars.
They spun in the air, the scimitars in their hands reflecting the sunlight. For a moment, the blade lights flashed wildly, blinding people’s eyes.
Then, they landed on the ground steadily, the sharp and curved tips of their scimitars aimed at Lin Ge and Lanya.
The scales on their faces were rough and dark, but their eyes were sharper than blades. One look and one could tell that they were well-trained elites. Two mages against six assassins with rich combat experience, and in a close combat situation, the result could be imagined. Not to mention, one was a new mage who had just learned magic for a day, and the other was a rookie wizard who was not strong enough. Lanya’s hand, which was holding her staff, was trembling slightly. She had never had a conflict with anyone, let alone a fight. She had never seen such a scene.
The sharp gazes of the lizardmen before her had already frightened her quite a bit. The shining scimitars in their hands made her feel dizzy as if those swords were going to land on her neck in the next second.
Sensing her fear, Lin Ge pulled her behind him and raised his staff. “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
Although he wasn’t very confident, he couldn’t show any fear at this time. His magic energy rushed to the front of his staff and quickly condensed a fireball, but at this time, the enemy’s scimitar had already cut over. In a hurry, he could only wave his staff and accurately block the blade, and the condensed fireball disappeared. He waved the staff in his hand again, and with a powerful sweep, the whistling wind forced the enemy to retreat.
Lin Ge felt quite helpless. He had wanted to fight elegantly as a mage, but it seemed that he was not qualified.
He could only use a less elegant method.
Fortunately, he had practiced fighting with equipment for some time back home. In the face of the six scimitars, he used the staff in his hand as a weapon and waved it to weave a dense defense net around himself and Lanya. The dense staff shadows were like a wall, blocking all the attacks.
But he didn’t have the energy to counterattack, leaving him with the sole choice of resisting.
After a short battle, he had already made a judgment in his heart. The lizardmen’s attacks were fierce with great strength. It was obvious that their endurance was amazing. Even if he could resist for a moment, it was definitely not a wise choice to stay here.
Moreover, there was still a lizardman who had not made a move and was watching from the side. Plus, he had Lanya by his side who needed protection.
He had to find a way to escape! He poured magic energy into the staff, and the front of the staff suddenly lit up, quickly gathering fire elements to form flames. Under his movements, they formed a wall of fire. The sudden change caused the six lizardman assassins to pause for a moment. He seized this fleeting opportunity to cast a Fleeting Spell on himself and Lanya, pulled her over, and turned to escape.
After dashing to one of the horses, he pulled on Lanya. As she cried out in alarm, the two of them landed on the horse’s back steadily. Lin Ge lifted the reins with both arms and protected Lanya in his arms to prevent her from falling. At the same time, he squeezed his legs hard, and the horse under him galloped wildly.
The lizardman who didn’t make a move was blocking the way back to the city. The other party’s strength was unknown, but if he delayed for even a moment, the other six lizardmen would catch up and he would lose this opportunity to escape. So he could only ride the horse away from Castaron. The lizardman Shaffer had never expected that a newbie who had only been registered in the Mage Guild for less than three days would have such skills. He was both shocked and angry when he saw Lin Ge running away. “Damn it, we’ve misjudged him. Go after him!”
He took the lead in chasing after them on his horse. The other five lizardmen jumped on their horses and followed closely behind, stirring up a large cloud of dust on the dirt road.
Only one lizardman remained in place, unwillingly waving the scimitar in his hand and venting his anger on the grass by the side of the road. His horse had been taken away by Lin Ge, so he could only watch as his companion left.
On the jolting horse, Lanya was curled up in Lin Ge’s arms. Her small hands clutched the clothes on Lin Ge’s chest tightly, afraid that they would fall off. She was still in shock. Lin Ge’s mouth twitched. This girl wasn’t just grabbing his clothes, she was also grabbing the flesh under his clothes. It was as if she was going to tear off a piece of his skin.
“Lanya, relax. You’re about to peel off my skin.”
“Ah, I’m sorry,”
Lanya blushed and let go of his hand. Her body, which was sitting sideways, suddenly shook from the vibration of the horse’s back and almost slipped down. She was so frightened that she quickly hugged Lin Ge and pressed her little face against his chest. “Why are those lizardmen targeting us? I’ve never provoked them.”
