Pursuit

“Forensic doctors are observant. The dead and the living are actually similar.” Yin Tao noticed that Feng Jing was also staring intently at her and she felt a little nervous.

“Captain Feng, I think that with the criminal’s cautious personality, he might have recced the hotel in advance. You can take a look at the hotel’s surveillance footage a few days earlier to see if you can find anyone with a similar physique.” Yin Tao felt that the murderer in Wei Feng’s case was probably the same person as the murderer who kidnapped and killed Brother Feng Jing in the original novel. She also hoped that Feng Jing could catch the murderer as soon as possible so that she could cure her regret.

“Alright, Little Yin. Wei Feng’s memorial service is the day after tomorrow. I will wait for you at the entrance of the police station and then we will go together.” Feng Jing felt that Yin Tao was different from the girls he had interacted with before. Although she looked very delicate, she was braver and smarter than most ordinary men.

“Captain Feng, I’ll go with you and Dr. Yin. Captain Chen asked me to assist you in case you meet a suspect.” The young police officer had always regarded Feng Jing as his idol. He did not want to miss out on any detail of Feng Jing’s case.

“Alright. There will be many people at the memorial service. Come along to observe if there are any characters with unusual behavior.” Feng Jing looked at the young police officer and asked Yin Tao, “He’s Ji Yu from division two. He was sent by Captain Chen to assist me in the case. Do you know him from before?”

“We’ve met a few times. You came to the police station in the same year as Xia Jin, right?” Yin Tao looked at Ji Yu’s juvenile face and felt that he should be younger than Xia Jin.

“Yes, Dr. Yin. We haven’t spoken many times before, but you’re the lucky star of division two. We all like you very much.” Ji Yu was a little embarrassed after saying that. He lowered his head and didn’t dare to look Yin Tao in the eye.

“Alright, you have a lot to learn from Dr. Yin in the future. As a detective, learning some basic autopsy knowledge will also be helpful in solving cases.” Feng Jing gently patted Ji Yu’s shoulder and turned to remind Yin Tao, “If you can’t contact me in the future, look for Xiao Ji. He will know my location.”

“Alright, Captain Feng. You go ahead. I’ll check Li Chao’s autopsy report again to see if I’ve missed anything .” Yin Tao nodded to Feng Jing and Ji Yu before turning around and leaving the room.

“Captain Feng, does Dr. Yin not have a boyfriend?” Ji Yu asked Feng Jing softly as he watched Yin Tao leave.

“If you have the time, go and collect more clues. You’re not even as capable as Little Yin, yet you still want to be her boyfriend?” Feng Jing looked at the boy’s youthful face and thought of Lin Jia. He didn’t expect to have so many suitors despite her keeping a low profile.

“Here’s where you don’t get it, Captain Feng, I’ve read that it’s best for two personalities to complement each other. If two people are too similar, they can only be platonic friends.” Ji Yu looked confident.

“I think there’s too little work for you. Go and check on Li Chao’s social network when he was alive. Sort out all the information about the people he interacted with by tomorrow morning. It’s best if you can do it before ten o’clock.” Feng Jing’s mood improved vastly when he saw Ji Yu looking crestfallen.

Ji Yu left the room dejectedly. Feng Jing took out his cell phone and dialed Lin Jia’s number.

“Captain Feng, what’s the matter? What can a minor assistant like me do for you?” Lin Jia’s voice came through the cell phone.

“Indeed there is. Did you handover some of the construction project of the City A’s new city district to the Wei Corporation?” Feng Jing’s voice was a little serious, as such Lin Jia was also serious.

“Yes, the price offered by the Wei Corporation is the most reasonable. Why? Do you suspect that Wei Feng’s death is related to this matter?”

“Perhaps. Back then, my brother’s matter was also related to the tender project that my father participated in. It’s just that we haven’t been able to find any clues.” Feng Jing’s tone became a little heavier when he mentioned his brother.

“Feng Ye?” Hearing Feng Jing mention his brother again, Lin Jia fell into deep thought. “Alright, I’ll send you a list of the companies that are directly competing with the Wei Corporation.”

“Thanks, brother.” Feng Jing was very grateful for the help that Lin Jia had always provided him.

“Why are you being so polite? If you have time, help me ask Yin Tao out for a meal,” Lin Jia said with a laugh.

“Do you really intend to pursue Yin Tao?” Feng Jing sat back in his chair with the cell phone in his hand.

“Of course, Yin Tao meets all my criteria for a girlfriend.” Lin Jia’s tone didn’t sound like he was joking.

“You don’t mind that she’s a forensic doctor?” Feng Jing knew that Lin Jia’s parents worked in the government service and were relatively conservative.

“I don’t mind, but my parents should mind.” Lin Jia sighed softly and said, “It’s a relationship, not a marriage. Why are you thinking so much?”
