The two returned to the fort and headed to the inn where they cleaned up and then headed out to get something to eat.
Eldrian spoiled Ceph by letting him order whatever he wanted, not even flinching when the bill was almost 20 silver. A price that was unimaginable to most, especially considering it was just 1 meal.
Leaving satisfied, the two returned to the inn where Eldrian paid for their last day and then started organizing things for their return to Kynigo. Vivian had gone ahead of time and was looking around at the houses for Eldrian.
Of course, she could always stay in the barracks and Eldrian could always stay in an inn. But, that didn't seem like the best option going forward.
While they didn't quite know how much longer they were going to be in Kynigo, Eldrian knew that houses weren't all that expensive. Even some of the more impressive homes wouldn't equal a Tier 2 magic weapon (20-ish gold).
Noble houses were another story, but Eldrian wasn't looking for a mansion.
...
"This neighborhood is really nice, there are a few inns nearby and it is also far away from the gate should an attack happen." Vivian happily shared what she had learned during her days of house shopping.
"And it is thirteen gold?" Eldrian asked, looking at the three-story building with an impressive layout before him in shock. It wasn't furnished, but 13 gold seemed like a steal. This went without saying, but the house was one designed for humans, as such it didn't have ridiculously large rooms.
"Yup, it has no defensive arrays though."
"I mean, of course it doesn't." Eldrian countered.
That was truly the thing that made houses expensive. The most expensive normal house was around 50 gold, while the cheapest house with an array was around a 1000 gold. The difference was just insane.
"What do you think of the house?" A slightly overweight man with nice clean noble attire asked.
He was the realtor for this property and he truly wanted to push the elf to some higher-priced houses. However, Vivian had done her homework and kept him honest.
Calling up the map, Eldrian studied its position for a bit. It was nicely situated from the main road leading from the gate to the noble district. And as such should an attack happen it would be one of the areas out of focus.
Outside of that, it was near one of the adventure guild branches. Which of course meant it was also near at least one blacksmith and apothecary. The mage association was far away, but Eldrian didn't mind that. It would just take half an hour by carriage. If he were to run it wouldn't even be 10 minutes.
"I'll take it."
"That is wonderful, now... Let's talk furniture and servents."
Hearing this, Eldrian quickly stopped the man from continuing. "No need for servents, but I would like to at least get some basic furniture."
"Of course, however, I must insist on at least hiring a few maids and a butler to take care of the property."
Sighing, Eldrian really didn't like that idea. Needing to take care of a household, the idea just sent shivers down his spine.
"No thanks, let's just talk furniture..."
...
"Are you sure that is all you wish for?" The realtor asked in a disappointed voice.
"Yes, that will be all for now."
"Alright, your total will come out to 14 gold and 38 silver."
Smiling, Eldrian called the amount from his inventory and the coins appeared in hand exactly as needed. Truly convenient.
As the disappointed realtor left, Eldrian looked at his finances (around 95 gold coins) and then headed to their inn for the night. It would take some time for the furniture to be brought over.
...
Returning on the next day, Eldrian confirmed that things were in order and then headed to the adventurer's guild to finally claim his rewards.
"How may I help you today?" A centaurette asked as Eldrian approached the counter.
"I would like to claim my rewards for a quest. It has to do with clearing corruption, and the sum involved is quite large." Eldrian didn't want her to be surprised when he started sharing everything.
During the first few days when he was still searching for Vivian, Evale had made sure to hand him the emblems he had earned for clearing the forest. Which had been an insane amount of emblems.
Of course, Eldrian had thought of handing the emblems to Elizabeth at the caves. However, he recalled that only he could hand them in, if someone else tried then it would appear like they had been stolen.
"Of course, please hand over the emblems you acquired."
"Are you sure, can't we go to a back room?" Eldrian asked, and seeing how earnest he was she nodded and led him to one of the private rooms.
"Alright then, please take out the emblems."
Nodding, Eldrian started with the Bronze emblems. taking out a total of 687 (worth 687 gold) of these and leaving the centaurette simply stunned.
"Ex-excuse me." Rushing out of the room, she quickly found the guild leader and informed him of the situation. A few minutes later, the two entered the room again.
The guild leader was a centaur with a bright blue and gold embroidered akro and a neat semi-formal shirt with the same color and patterns.
"I hear that you have a large sum to trade in with us." He said, smiling while stealing a glance at the pile of emblems. While waiting, Eldrian had stacked the iron and steel emblems too, a 171 (worth 855) and a 100 (worth 1000) respectively.
"Yes, these are all the emblems." Eldrian said with a smile and waited for them to confirm the number. After 15 minutes, he left with a broad smile and 2542 gold coins richer. (708 of which was due to Elizabeth and the guild.)
Next, he headed to the mansion of the city. He had no idea where to claim his rewards for the Undead Invasion quest. Something was telling him visiting Pelaros, the one who had originally given him the quest, was the right call.
As he approached the mansion, it seemed like this feeling was indeed correct. The guards only stopped him to confirm his identity, and then let him through while even telling him where to find Pelaros.
"Long time," Eldrian smiled as he recalled his first meeting with the centaur. At that time his excitement at Eldrian being an elf had bordered on the perverse.
"Indeed, and who would have thought that adding you to that mission would have changed everything?" Pelaros smiled back while standing from his seat and shaking Eldrian's hand.
Currently, he was in his human form, so as to enjoy morning tea in his garden.
"Not me, but I am truly glad I was able to help," Eldrian said while taking the seat offered and accepting a cup.
The two enjoyed the tea first, talking about nothing for a bit and just enjoying the morning sun. With winter just around the corner it was a refreshing feeling and escape from the morning chill.
"I assume you came regarding your rewards?"
