He decided to let this be for the time being, as he had a more pressing question to ask.
"...What is this dress?"
He had the feeling the dress Qienta had on her was of superior quality than anything he'd seen. The dress covered her shoulders entirely and flows down into a tasteful cowl neckline. It's a snug fit which put the focus on her b.r.e.a.s.ts, but in a graceful manner. Her arms have been covered to just above her wrists. The sleeves are a loose fit from top to bottom, giving the dress a slightly casual look, although it was nowhere near 'casual' for him.
The dress' waist was thin. An elastic band within the dress perfectly accentuates her waist and breaks up the dress nicely. Below the waist the dress widened and had multiple symmetric layers from top to bottom. The dress reached all the way down to her feet and is longer in the back.
She's wearing ankle straps, which further adds elegance and class. To top it all off she's wearing a subtle necklace and several lavish bracelets Ethan had no way what they could do. But even the dress seemed almost 'modern' and 'casual' at the same time, that wasn't the case at all.
"This is the Ancient dress my mother wore the most of her time during her time in what you can call her real world. It's only a replica of the original, so it doesn't have the same powers though, only the appearance is the same."
These words didn't surprise Ethan at all. If Light could casually reproduce an Ancient dress Qienta used to wear, then he wouldn't have hesitated to ask her to teach him, as even if he couldn't do the same, he believed there would be some kind of result anyway, what he needed the most at the current moment.
'Even if it has no real power, the dress emits such a powerful aura I think even my most powerful skill couldn't even scar it, like the statue itself.'
It was obviously humiliating to think he couldn't even damage a replica of the real deal, since this made him understand the extent of his power was even lower than an ant at that moment, but still he knew the work itself was done by an Ancestor, so it was only natural he was powerless, for now.
Glancing another time at the statue, Ethan saw how the dress, while on the part not corrupted was almost shining a colour very close to gold, in the corrupted part instead the dress was completely different, and Ethan believed the latter would also be difficult to notice if the part not corrupt didn't show the 'continuum' of the dress itself.
'It almost seems like a curse.'
He remembered seeing this skin of hers in first person. Although to him it was an incredibly beautiful sight to see, Ethan now could clearly see how even a cloth of such power couldn't resist the power of the void, which was sad for him as he believed the dress must've gone lost as well..
'..Is there really nothing we can do for her?'
He himself knew the answer to that question and also thought he must concentrate to live his life to the fullest so that this life she gave him wouldn't be wasted, but...the statue made him once again remember of how crude Qienta's fate really was.
He in fact other than the dress noticed how her skin was even brighter than Light's. It was as if Qienta took care of her body for hundreds of years to achieve such an atypical colour leading to white, but more similar to the snow, she was without a doubt an unmatchable beauty. To think she was so different from the look of the 20 years old she had in the past, Ethan found his determination.
"...If I see her once again I will ask her openly why she accepted such a fate. Even if she is the most powerful Goddess, I don't believe she doesn't want to enjoy life just like you and me, so there must be a reason."
If he couldn't really do anything about that, then Ethan wanted to at least know directly from her what drove her to choose living an eternal life in this way, as even Light had no clue about that.
His words surprised her a little, but she expected him to say this from the moment he said he met her mother.
"...There's no need to see her."
Light's words shocked Ethan as he misunderstood her words, but after she finished her sentence, telling him about the fact Qienta could use [Hidden Quests] to assign him or her rewards, Ethan finally understood what she meant, but...
"A letter you say? No, I don't want this kind of thing. Since I chose to met her in person, it's a good possibility to let you two meet each other. If she can send here a letter as a reward, if the condition is high enough can't she send something like a copy of herself? Like how the [Qienta's Blessing] works."
He didn't exactly understand how the [Qienta's blessing] worked regarding her body. She told him she was Qienta, but also that she wasn't, so Ethan was having a hard time but in the end the important part was that in front of him, he was sure the woman in front of him was real, and that's all that mattered for him, since he wanted to repay both Qienta and Light in some way.
His words this time completely destabilized her. She didn't think about such a possibility since the requirements to materialize a 'copy' of Qienta's soul were probably enormous, but before she could completely deny his theory, Ethan added
"...If the copy was restricted to use any of her powers, I believe that would be easier to do. If it's not enough then she could set some kind of timer, like an hour and then the copy would collapse or disappear, like how the blessing works."
In the case of the [Qienta's Blessing], the copy of Qienta didn't have her full power, and was also restricted from trying to escape from the illusionary world, since the only task she had, other than protect Ethan from the divinity, was to take care of him so that he could safety leave the illusionary world, something he wasn't ready for yet.
"...Maybe... it could work, but... I'm not sure.."
It was true the Quest were no more than d.e.s.i.r.es of the host combined with the will of the Universe, but the latter wasn't easy to accept Quest directly from the host, and also if the reward wasn't fit for the host, the Universe could decide to not allow such a thing at all.
Sighing, Ethan decided to stop raising Light's hopes for the moment, as he couldn't guarantee the process was a success.
"...If it's not a way, then I'll think about something else. But in one way or another we'll meet her again and satisfy our curiosities."
For a moment, he thought 'what if I could use the divinity to meet the conditions required for the [Qienta's blessing] to materialize itself into the copy of Qienta..' but after a second thought he understood that was really unnecessary as she would be disappointed if he did such a thing, and probably not only her, but also Light as well.
His words convinced her. Their fate was still intertwined, so there was no way Ethan won't have other chances to meet Qienta in the future, may it be for one reason or another, so the fact he was bringing her also in his 'fate' made her quite happy, both for his kindness and for the promise she would one day meet her mother and thank her and also apologize for her stupidity...
"When that day will come, I'll also be sure to tell my Mother about this."
Ethan took her words for another joke, but she was deadly serious.
"as I said there's no need for that. If she doesn't know I'll be sure to tell her myself. Even if you know her story there are still things you want to know, right? I believe it'll be better if you ask her about that instead.."
He really didn't know many things but Light still nodded at his words, even if she suspected she would actually enjoy such a conversation more than thinking about the past, at least her letter made that thought only obvious to surface in her mind.
'I wonder if my mother actually cares about her past...'
Ignoring these thoughts, Light replied
"...I guess you're right."
With this, the atmosphere quieted down as the two spent another 30 minutes talking about the statue and the particularities Ethan found within it, but he knew in the real world now the time would almost be out.
"..By the way, since I didn't expect to success in entering my Domain I don't have much time left. If I remain here for too long, in the real world the others will worry about me..."
He didn't want to leave so suddenly, but a glance at the system made him understand he was already out of the 'schedule'. After the training he planned to help out in the kitchen and also try to have a conversation with Reyna meanwhile, so it was important for him to not be late.
"..I see. While you're away I'll work to add some book to the library as I had no time to, and also some new feature to the training room so that it'll be perfect, oh and since I have to teach you about [Blacksmithing] I'll buy the book for you so if you see less SP than you remember having you can just check the notifications, it will be said I was the one to use your SP."
As always, Light had the bad habit of saying all the important information in one go, but even if he was a little overwhelmed by this, he understood her words clearly.
"...I'll probably show up the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow other than the meeting with Freya, I will also properly go in the [True Dungeon] but I'm still insecure if I should bring Ais and Riveria with me. Do you know if doing this will have any negative effect on them?"
He didn't actually want their help as he had the will to grow stronger. Even if a monster he couldn't face appeared, he could always flee from the True Dungeon and try again at a later time, but if he was badly damaged there was a risk, so for security issues he wanted their help, but if there were some negative effects once they were in then Ethan would cut that option down as he could buy some item able to protect him in case of danger. Although it costed SP, it was better to be safe than sorry.
"...Negative effects? More than that I wonder if their soul will be able to travel the distance. You see. The [True Dungeon] is no more than a place in another world that was perfect for the cause. I don't know why the [True Dungeon] was formed in the world 1999, but souls from the world 1042 shouldn't be able to protect themselves from the travel.."
Hearing this, Ethan knew this would be another of her long explanations he wouldn't understand at all, so he cut her off.
"..I don't think I'll understand what you are saying now. But one thing is for sure. If I entered the [True Dungeon] with them, the risk would have been really high, right?"
Light was annoyed by the fact Ethan stopped her as she was about to explain how the [True Dungeon] worked, but his question made her immediately reply.
"Yes. I never saw a soul travel from different worlds, that's a thing only my mother or some divine being would be able to do. But since your body is of her creation, the ability to travel is carved in your soul as well, thus why you're able to freely travel between worlds."
He understood this from the first time she said so, but then, these very words brought confusion in his mind.
'If that's the case..then how could Maple travel with me...?'
