Chapter 29 - The Wailing Carle

Chapter 29: The Wailing Carle

In the sky.

Light spots began to appear one after another, turning into 30 pistols in the air.

“What is this? When did you…”

Carle’s eyes widened instantly and he looked at me in panic.

“Senior, do you know what kind of magic this is? And what are the strange things floating in the sky?”

“I don’t know either. I’ve never seen such a strange magic, and it was cast by a freshman. This batch of freshmen is really terrifyingly strong…”

Someone in the crowd asked the same question as Carle.

“What? You’re allowed to use other magic, but I’m not allowed to learn other magic? Fire!”

I looked at Carle and gave an order to the magic pistols in the air.

The magic pistols floating in the air fired light bullets at Carle.

Carle immediately retreated, trying to get out of range of the pistol formation. Unfortunately, as long as I was on the field, the magic pistols would shoot anywhere I wanted before my magic ran out.

Soon.

The magic bullets caught up to Carle and left marks on his body, causing him to cover his head and scuttle around.

“Teacher, I want to report Will for cheating!”

Carle wailed as he begged for help from the teacher.

“I’m sorry, Carle. Will used a very pure light-attribute magic, and these light bullets are not enough to cause substantial damage to you, just like how I didn’t stop you just now.”

The teacher recovered from his frown and answered Carle regretfully.

After half a minute of continuous shooting, Carle’s face was already bigger than before. It was covered in bruises.

“I admit defeat! I admit defeat!!”

Carle finally couldn’t help but shout.

I put away my magic pistols.

Carle immediately sat on the ground and panted heavily.

“I declare the winner of this duel to be Will Reinhardt.”

The teacher walked onto the field and loudly announced the results of this duel.

The crowd immediately cheered and applauded.

In this academy, I only knew Sephone, oh, and Carle now.

I didn’t expect so many cheers.

Perhaps it was because Carle and I had provided a bit of fun for their dull academy life.

If that was the case, it was understandable.

“Will, Carle, congratulations on passing the admission test and providing us with an exciting duel.

“Mm, you two have placed first and second place among light-attribute freshmen this time. I’ll hand your names to the academy committee. You still have a chance to fight for a spot in the academy’s student council. You can rest here. I’ll continue with the assessment of the other freshmen.”

CO.

The teacher opened the scoreboard again and said to us with a smile.

“Thank you, Teacher.”

“T-Thank you… Teacher.”

The teacher left with the other freshmen, and the crowd gradually dispersed.

However, there were still many freshmen who had finished their assessments who remained nearby. Their gazes would occasionally dart to Culler and me.

“Hahaha, Carle, you couldn’t win to Harson in the capital. After coming to Olgus Academy, you confidently initiated a duel and ended defeated by Will. Now you finally know that there will always be someone better.”

A silvery laugh came from nearby. There was no need to turn around. Carle and I already knew who was coming, Sephone.

She still had her hands behind her back as she skipped over gloatingly, mercilessly mocking Carle.

Carle rolled his eyes but didn’t get angry. He looked at me and said, “Yes, yes, yes. I was no match for you in the capital too. Don’t talk about me. Do you know what kind of light-attribute this… Will used? When did he hide those Holy Light creations?”

“Oh… That’s true. I didn’t see clearly either…”

Sephone stopped. She tapped her finger on her lips and pondered for a while before answering

“Then why are you still laughing at me! Ah! Forget it, I’ll go back to my dormitory to recuperate. The pressure of being with you monsters is too great. It’s fine if I was no match to people in the capital, but I can even encounter freaks at the border. What kind of world is this…”

Carle rolled his eyes self-righteously. He quickly covered the purple spot at the corner of his eye and limped towards the dormitory.

These words made me feel a little sorry. Just as I was about to turn around and help him back to the dormitory, a pair of hands grabbed me.

“Will, it’s better if you don’t go. This bastard has high self-esteem. I’ve grew up with him. It’s fine to tease him a little. If you really go over, this bastard might even get angry at you.”

Sephone pulled me aside and explained quietly.

“I see. Thank you very much, Sephone.”

I immediately thanked her.

“You’re welcome. We’re friends, aren’t we?”

Sephone smiled and looked at me. “Will, the Divine Light and the Holy Light Gun Formation you used just now do not have incantations, right?” “Yes, that is the case.”

I nodded and replied truthfully.

Sephone has a pair of sharp eyes, which she demonstrated when we first met.

Although it was said that one could still activate magic without shouting out loud every time and even soft chanting would work, because of the long-standing magic activation habits, hand gestures were not so easy to remove.

Since she asked so confidently, she must have realized that I didn’t make any physical movements when I activated the magic.

As a friend, I had no need to hide it from her.

I had many years more in the academy. This secret would be exposed sooner or later.

“Using magic without chanting is a skill that only genius Mages have!”

Sephone’s eyes sparkled with starlight as she looked at me with admiration.

“Sephone, if I’m not wrong, it shouldn’t be difficult for you to activate magic without chanting, right?”

I stared back at her.

That was my guess and my instinct.

“Eh? Did you find out? Hehe, that’s true. I’m barely considered a genius too.”

Sephone was stunned for a moment before she admitted generously.

“Sephone, how does it feel when you don’t need to chant to activate magic?”

I asked.

“What kind of feeling is that? Hmm… I really didn’t pay attention to that. It’s probably that when I extend my hand, magic will appear where it needs to appear.”

Sephone hesitated for a moment. She reached out her hand and looked at me curiously. “Will, why are you asking this?”

“Sephone, try not to reach out now and see if the magic can still be activated.”

I was a little excited.

I wanted to know the answer. Is every Mage who casts a spell without chanting like me whereby as long as they had enough willpower, the spell would be activated.

Or is it that every user of magic who does not chant also needs a medium, and this medium differs?
