Chapter 14:I'm not doing this again....

In the middle of the night, I woke up because of high, devouring fever. I was lying in my cradle and was bathing in sweat. All of my sheets got drenched and started to stink. The immense pain, that seemed to be originated from the very core of my soul, made me cry in agony.

Mother and Father woke up from my scream and rushed to my side. Mother felt my forehead, sighed, turned to Father and said, " Backslash". Father ran out of the room with panicked look.

' What backslash? Why does she look so pained?'

I couldn't comprehend what was going on at all. Everything seemed to be fine just a minute ago, but then why do I feel this torturous pain?!

"m-mom.... what is going o-on....?", I asked weakly, suppressing the pain.

Mother froze for a second, but still replied,

" Mirta, did you ever cast that many spells at the same time?"

Father came back holding a bucket of water. Mother made the water cold using her magical power, held screaming me up, swiftly took my clothes off and placed inside of icy water. My tiny body jolted when the surface of the water got in contact with my skin. She splashed water on my head and eyes and somehow the pain started to loosen up.

I breathed in and out, and felt my consciousness slowly escaping my grip.

" Mirta!", my Father screamed t the top of his lungs,"Mirta! You have to concentrate now! This happened because you overused your mana, causing it to become wild and entering inside your fragile body! Now, you by all means must stay awake and get this rampaging mana under control or your body will burn from within! You will die, GET IT TOGETHER!!!!!"

'So that triple casting was the cause. I have to get this fever under control, but how?'

"H-how should ..I do that?"

Father's glance shook when he heard my weak question, his orange eyes became moist and tears streamed down his face.

" Thank goodness, you are still with us.... Okay now, try to feel the flow of your mana and try to direct it, so that it formed a sphere around you. The mana has to exit from your feet and enter through the vertex of your head...."

" Dear, she might be smart and talented, but are you sure that she can understand this concept? She..."

"Understood"

In short, First I have to feel my mana and then make it flow in a way that is similar to magnetic-field-lines, when my feet are north pole and head is south. Okay, the concept seems simple.

The hardest part of this was not feeling the mana, but directing it in the right direction. From the moment I was born, my mana was serculating in the correct direction, was outside and only a little bit was actually in my body, so it was really uncomfortable for me to direct mana outside while leaving some in. It took me half-an-hour in freezingly cold water, before I succeeded and the moment I did, my body cooled and fever dropped instantly.

My parents sighed in relief, wiped me dry and placed me in between them to sleep. I spend way too much energy and fell asleep almost instantly. I'm never casting more than one spell ever again!
