Chapter 433 - William Grant Anderson

It took them about half an hour to get Sabrina in the maternity ward of the Franciscan Medical Center.

Liz was pleased to see that the staff was waiting for them at the main entrance and they swiftly whisked Sabrina into a VIP room and got her changed into a hospital gown, ready for the delivery.

Max and Hunter arrived almost immediately after Sabrina got on the hospital bed. Mia, Brianna, and Olivia were next, and Nathan and Madeline were ten minutes behind.

Sabrina started dilating, and she was at 4cm when the pain became too much and she asked for an epidural. She hoped to go without pain medications, but the delivery was not progressing fast and it was exhausting her.

While waiting for Ashton to arrive, Sabrina allowed only her ObGyn, nurses, and Liz inside her room. Everyone else had to wait outside because they were making Sabrina's room crowded and she really didn't want her brothers, parents, and friends to look at her private parts.

Mike and Quentin also arrived and the lounge in the maternity ward became lively when Jake and Grace made an appearance.

A nurse saw all the people gathered in the lounge, and she gave them a hint that some could go home because the first delivery might take hours. No one wanted to leave, but the warning that it can take a while made them consider buying food and drinks for everyone.

Derek called saying that he is on the way. No one from Hunter's buddy-group wanted to miss this. It's the first baby in their tight circle that consists of Hunter, Ashton, Mike, Jake, and Derek.

Ashton rushed into the ward with his hair messy and disheveled clothes, looking like he came out of the storm.

"Did I miss it?", Ashton shouted when he saw that they are all sitting in the lounge eating and drinking as if celebrating.

"No, you didn't. What took you so long?", Hunter asked while scrutinizing Ashton's appearance.

"Long story. Where is Rina?", Ashton didn't want to explain that he put his phone on silent out of habit, and he saw numerous voice messages after his lecture was over. And then he rushed back with a car only to be stuck in a traffic jam with all commuters who were on their way to grab lunch. He considered leaving the car on the highway and running to the hospital, but he thought how that was not practical. Ashton was super-anxious, and he ended up pulling his hair and tugging on his necktie and shirt so that he can get some more air and… he looks like a mess, but he does not care.

Ashton dashed into the room where Max indicated, mentally prepared for all the scolding that Sabrina will give him for arriving so late.

Liz came to the lounge to share updates and to give some privacy to Ashton and Sabrina. Sabrina was anxious about the delivery, upset that it took so long for Ashton to arrive, and she was worried that something happened to him. It all combined into an endless stream of curses mixed with cries, sobs, kisses, and apologies.

Liz was surprised when she saw all the food and drinks. Well, she was starving.

"Rina is five centimeters now.", Liz said when she took a seat next to Max.

By then, they all knew that the baby will come out when Sabrina is ten centimeters dilated and that there are no ways to predict how much time it will take to get there.

Liz took one stick of chicken satay and dipped it in spicy peanut sauce before taking a bite. "Mmm…", Liz let out a moan of satisfaction when flavors exploded in her mouth and she didn't see the way Max looked at her at that moment. If they were not surrounded by people, he would pin her down on that sofa and give her some other reasons to moan. How dares she make such sexy sounds in front of other people? But the only person (other than Max) who thought that Liz made a sexy sound was Andrea. 

Andrea chomped down food swiftly and she apologized. "I can't stay, I need to return to the office."

"Don't worry about it.", Mia responded. "We will keep you informed on the progress here."

"Thanks. I will stop by after work.", Andrea assured them and left in a rush, knowing that Sabrina will be in the hospital at least 24 hours after the delivery.

Normally, Andrea and Max would bicker, but this was about Sabrina and Andrea decided to behave. For now.

"I thought this is about Ash and Rina having a baby, and it seems there is a party going on…", Derek said when he entered the lounge.

Derek was wearing black leather pants that fit snugly around his muscular legs, a black leather jacket that was wrapped around his broad shoulders, his dark locks were unruly as they fell over his forehead and partially obstructed the view of his chocolate eyes… he held a motorcycle helmet in his hand, looking like a total bad-boy, and Angela gaped at Derek like she never saw a man in her life.

Derek noticed and gave her a lopsided smile. "I don't think we had a chance to meet, miss…"

"Angela…", she croaked.

"Angela…", Derek repeated with a deep hum and offered her his hand for a handshake. She put her hand into his and instead of shaking it, Derek gave it a small twist and kissed the back of her palm. "A heavenly name that suits such a beautiful girl. I am Derek."

Jake and Mike exchanged glances, noticing that there is something going on while Hunter was busy eating and he was oblivious of the electrifying mood between Derek and Angela.

"If you visited Ash and Rina like everyone else, you would know that Ash's sister is staying with them.", Hunter said before he put another forkful of food in his mouth.

"My bad…", Derek said without removing his scorching gaze from Angela which made her blush. "I will make sure to visit more often."

After many unsuccessful attempts, Madeline and Nathan got inside Sabrina's room with a promise that when the real thing starts, they will leave because mommy-to-be wanted only Ashton and medical staff by her side.

Around three-thirty in the afternoon, Madison, Nicole, and Charlie joined after they closed the FD Studios (three hours earlier). Delphine had some previous arrangements and she promised to come and visit after the baby is born.

"Almost there! She is going to start pushing any time now…", Liz said when she got into the lounge from Sabrina's room.

"Are you sure? You said that last time.", Mia reminded Liz.

"Yes, yes. Now is definitely almost there…", Liz assured everyone while gesturing toward Nathan and Madeline who made their appearance in the lounge.

Grandparents-to-be were sulking that they were kicked out, but at the same time, they were excited that the baby will be out soon.

They were there for more than four hours, and some of them contemplated leaving and coming back later, but neither of them wanted to miss the big moment, so they stuck around.

Quentin and Brianna were working from their laptops, and so were Max and Hunter. The lounge in the maternity ward was transformed into a rest-chat-work-snack area.

"Oh, I heard that we have a large group camping in here, and I was tasked to discretely check it out…", Rhonda said with a smile when her sight landed on Liz and Max.

"We are not disturbing anyone.", Liz said. "Max's sister is in labor, and these are close friends and family."

Rhonda bobbed her head in understanding.

Liz called Rhonda to join them for a bit, and she introduced Rhonda to everyone.

The chatter stopped when they saw the nurse which was in Sabrina's room.

"It's a healthy baby boy.", the nurse said with a big smile. "We are cleaning him up and doing basic checkups. In about ten minutes you can come and see them but make it in smaller groups."

Liz stood up swiftly. This was her cue because any moment later and a fight might start between people who want to see the baby. "I will talk to Rina and find out whom she wants to meet first."

Max gave Liz a nod of approval. He already saw that Mia, Hunter, Nicole, Madison, Madeline, and Nathan were on their feet, about to form a line (or start a brawl).

Angela would want to line up with others and see her nephew, but she was dazed by Derek's presence. Part of her feared that if she leaves his side, he will disappear. And he is the finest man she ever saw.

The baby was super-cute, and Ashton and Sabrina were both glowing from love.

Ashton proudly introduced to everyone his son, William Grant Anderson.

Madeline and Nathan were moved that Sabrina and Ashton decided to include the last name Anderson for their boy. Normally, only the father's last name would go to the child.
