Girls were walking down the hallway and Liz pulled Brianna closer.
"What happened with the cocktails?", Liz asked in a half-whisper so that others don't overhear them.
"How do you know that something happened?"
Liz gave Brianna a smug look. "You took a long time, and you came back with champagne."
Brianna bobbed her head while acknowledging that Liz is observant. Well, Liz was always the smart one, except when it came to romantic relationships. But Max fixed this flaw or maybe used it to his advantage to get close to Liz. In either case, Brianna admires Max's patience. If that was her, Brianna would give up a long time ago.
"Suzy happened. She was in the kitchen, meddling with the drinks."
Liz's brows creased in worry. She knew that Suzy is one of the biggest Hunter-stalkers in Seattle, and she was actively collecting gossip about both Max and Hunter. The woman even hired a photographer to take photos of Liz! But they didn't hear anything about Suzy for months, and they assumed that she found another guy to stalk, or maybe she moved away (far away), or she died.
Liz would never assume that a woman can spend so much time in the background, waiting for a chance to get her hands on an already taken man.
Of course, Liz does not know that Suzy was not idle. Other than collecting information, Suzy made several attempts to sabotage Mia, but Suzy always used others and the attempts were unsuccessful, so they passed unnoticed.
"With you saying it so lightly, I can assume she was caught.", Liz wanted a confirmation.
Brianna lifted her chin smugly. "I smacked her in the face with a pan. It was a bullseye!"
Liz's eyes bulged in surprise. She could not imagine Brianna swatting Suzy's face with a pan. Wait! Scratch that. Yes, Liz can imagine Brianna doing such a thing.
Brianna lowered her voice and continued: "I didn't say anything inside in order not to upset Mia. Fabricio's and Max's men have Suzy, and she is not going anywhere."
"Good, good…", Liz said while bobbing her head happily. "If possible, it would be good not to tell Mia. They are supposed to go to their honeymoon right after the party, and if they find out about this, it might delay them."
Brianna agreed with Liz. "If we are successful in not disturbing lovebirds with news about Suzy, we can take care of that woman after the party is over."
Liz was not sure what 'taking care' of Suzy means, but she agreed with Brianna. With Max's and Quentin's help, they will definitely come up with something that works.
Liz glanced to the front and saw that guys are approaching them from the opposite side of the hallway. Mike was at the front with Hunter, they were coming to meet with Liz and head to the altar. The three of them will be waiting for others to come in pairs, with Mia and Fabricio as the last two.
Liz's eyes landed on Max, who was super-handsome in the black tuxedo and her eyes sparkled when he directed his killer smile at her. That is her man!
"Ow!", Liz winced when Brianna pinched her arm. "What was that about?"
"I know that look. You were about to jump on Max and start making out.", Brianna said while stifling a laugh. "Keep it in. You can do whatever you want AFTER the ceremony."
Liz pursed her lips in protest. She would NOT jump on Max, but a few kisses can't hurt.
Despite Brianna's warning, Liz dashed toward Max, as fast as her high heels allowed it.
"You are very handsome, Mr. Anderson…", Liz spoke in a purr while wrapping her arms around his neck.
Max chuckled when he saw Brianna glaring their way, but a moment later he was completely focused on Liz who was silently demanding a kiss.
Hunter cleared his throat to remind them that this is about HIS wedding and that there is not much time. Unfortunately for Hunter, Max and Liz ignored him.
"Today, you are extra beautiful, Miss Williams. I can't wait to dance with you…", Max said in a husky voice and gave her a quick kiss. He leaned closer and murmured into her ear: "And I can't wait to remove that dress."
Liz giggled and whoever saw them knew that Max said something naughty. And that Liz loved it.
Three quick kisses later, Liz let go of Max.
"I will see you at the altar…", Liz said to Max in a singing voice and walked out with Hunter and Mike.
Max smiled goofily while thinking that soon he will get to say those words to her… Just before he goes to the altar and waits for Liz to emerge while holding Isaac's arm. Ah! His insides were jittery just by thinking about it!
Olivia stood next to Max, as his walk-to-the aisle partner.
"Wipe the lipstick off…", Olivia said to Max grumpily. Her Mike was right there, but they were able to control themselves.
Seeing that Max didn't react, Olivia snorted and Quentin chuckled while thinking how Max is absolutely smitten and luckily that it's mutual. If Liz is vile like Irene... Max would not recuperate from the blow of Liz leaving him.
Quentin's smile fell while thinking about Irene. Is it possible that she gave up? Max told him that the last traces of Irene Brooks were gone with her disappearing from the club after she spoke with Mr. Stone, but Quentin had an uneasy feeling that she didn't give up. She took six years to return to Max's life, and if Irene has anything, that is the will to preserve until she gets what she wants. Unfortunately, she wants Max to suffer.
Behind Olivia, in the hallway on the girls' side, lined up were Brianna, Sabrina, Grace, Angela, and Andrea.
On the guys' side, they also lined up in the order they will step out. After Max were Quentin, Ashton, Jake, Roberto, and Derek.
Bridesmaids and groomsmen were waiting for the wedding planner to give them the signal that they can start walking out. The double door will open, and they will emerge from opposite sides, meet in the middle with the guy offering his hand for the lady to take; after linking arms, the bridesmaid-groomsman couple will walk down the aisle toward the altar in slow practiced steps. Five steps later, the next couple will emerge. As they reach the altar, they will line up behind the bride and the groom, and when all of them are in their places, Fabricio and Mia will step out.
Derek craned his neck and a smile crept on his lips when his eyes met Angela's. She was stunning and he could not keep his eyes off her. It was a good thing was that Ashton was in front of Derek and he was looking forward at Sabrina, so he didn't see Derek ogling at Angela… otherwise, there would be a fight.
Of course, Roberto was looking at Angela as well, and because she was looking his way, he assumed that her smile was directed at him. He had no idea that Angela's tunnel vision focused only on Derek.
The ceremony proceeded without a hitch.
Soft music played as couples of groomsmen and bridesmaids made their way toward the altar, joining Hunter, Mike (aka the best man), and Liz (aka the maid of honor).
First were Max and Olivia, next Quentin and Brianna, Ashton and Sabrina, Jake and Grace, Roberto and Angela, and the last ones were Derek and Andrea. They all assumed their designated positions: guys lined up behind Mike, and ladies lined up behind Liz.
Once Derek and Andrea reached into their positions, the music changed and Mia and Fabricio stepped out.
Everyone gasped at the sight of Mia who was breathtaking.
Hunter's eyes locked on Mia's as she approached him.
The only ones not looking at the bride were Derek and Angela whose eyes were drawn to each other no matter how much they forced themselves to focus on the ceremony.
When Mia reached the altar, and Fabricio placed Mia's hand into Hunter's, Ashton noticed that Angela is not focused on the main couple (aka Mia and Hunter), but that she is looking at the groomsmen.
Angela had a goofy smile on her face and Ashton didn't want to look at the guys, but he assumed that she is looking at Roberto. Why would she smile at Derek (aka the bastard)?
Ashton groaned internally. Did Angela fall for Roberto? He was confident that Angela is going from one heartbreak to another. After all, Roberto is from Portland, and she is in Seattle and there is no way that the distance relationship will work out.
"Your brother is watching…", Andrea whispered to Angela, pulling Angela from her daze.
Angela nodded slightly and forced herself to focus on the ceremony.
Ashton's eyes moved to Sabrina and a charming smile appeared on his face. They are married and have a child, yet only ten months ago he saw her as an untouchable Goddess he could admire only from afar. And now she is his wife. How surreal!
Mia and Hunter exchanged vows and kissed, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
After Zack took all the photos of the newlyweds and their party at the altar, guests lined up to offer their congratulations.
Madeline and Nathan stood next to Hunter, and Fabricio and Penny next to Mia, ready to shake hands and smile, while the rest of the wedding party had about half an hour of free time until the father-daughter dance is scheduled.
