Liz's lips twitched as something touched her cheek, waking her up gently. It was subtle and soft, and she groaned in protest. The bed was comfortable and last night Max exhausted her. Oh, and yesterday she gave the presentation and got engaged to Max, so today she needs to rest.
"Rise and shine, love…", Max's deep voice sounded close to her ear.
Liz snuggled closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder while refusing to open her eyes.
Max chuckled and kissed her on the lips. Once, twice... silently telling her that it's time to get up.
"Do I need to wake up?", Liz whined.
"Absolutely not. We can stay here as long as you want. It's Thursday, so I will call Hunter and tell him that I'm not coming to work, and you will miss the last day of the symposium where all the speakers go on the stage to get tiny statues which you can put on the shelf in your office to collect dust."
Liz stifled a laugh and opened her eyes to meet his blue ones. "When you put it that way, there is no reason to wake up."
Max tightened his hold on Liz and hummed in satisfaction. The feeling of her naked body pressing on his was heavenly. And that was his fiancée right there! Finally, he was only one step away from making Liz his wife and he was elated by the possibilities their future together might bring.
"What's the time?", Liz asked.
"Six-thirty."
"Oh…", Liz released a sound of disapproval. "Are you kidding me? Why are we waking up this early?"
Even when she is in Seattle and needs to go to work, she does not wake up before seven o'clock. And right now, they are in Las Vegas with the first presentation of the morning starting at nine-thirty, which is three hours away!
Max looked at her guiltily. "I thought that you wanted to go to the last day of the symposium and that I will go to work. That is how we agreed on. But if you don't want to go, feel free to go back to sleep. I will tell Hunter that my fiancée wants to spend a day in bed, I'm sure he will understand."
Liz was tired, and she wanted to stay in bed, but Max reminded her that both of them have things to do. Maybe her commitment is three hours away, but Max's work usually starts around nine in the morning, and he needs to fly back to Seattle. It was not fair to make him late due to her laziness and Hunter will not understand.
"It's not that I don't want to go. But waking up next to you is the best feeling ever and I don't want to shorten it.", Liz said while rubbing her face against his firm chest.
Max chuckled. "Not so long ago I suggested that we spend our mornings in bed cuddling and you were negotiating with me to shorten it because there were many other useful things we could do with our time compared to lazing in bed."
Liz remembered that talk. It was on Max's boat, their first morning of dating and… "I was foolish. Luckily, I had you to teach me about all the wonderful things that happen in bed."
Max grinned until his cheeks hurt. They made big progress since then.
He touched Liz's chin, making her look up at him. "Liz, we are engaged and soon we will be married. I can promise you that waking up next to me is part of the package, and it will happen every morning."
Liz wanted to ask if he can make that promise with confidence. Sure, during regular schedule and vacations, they will be together, but what if they have business trips where their schedules don't align? Next, Liz remembered that whenever she had commitments that lasted overnight, Max made sure to accompany her, like now. And Max didn't have any overnight trips, because the Alpha group is massive, and their partners come to Seattle, so Max does not travel for business. If anyone needs to go, he sends one of his directors because Max is too big of a figure to be absent for only one partner. He is amazing like that.
Since they started dating, Max and Liz are spending together every night and she wouldn't want it any other way.
Liz smiled. "Alright. I will hold you accountable for this one. Make sure that I wake up next to you every morning from now until forever. I won't be able to sleep without my bolster and I plan to use this one for a very-very long time."
Max was pleased with Liz's words, knowing that the bolster in question was him. "It will be my honor to provide you my support while sleeping, and when you can't sleep, I will provide my services to tire you up."
Liz giggled while watching Max slip under the cover, and she didn't resist when he spread her legs. She felt his breath at the cradle of her thighs, and her instinct was to suggest that they shower first, but she knew that Max didn't care about those things, and a second later leaving that bed was the last thing on Liz's mind.
Several flicks of Max's tongue later, Liz's head was deep in the pillows and she moaned his name.
…
Liz got out of the shower, and she found Max in the kitchen, next to the stove, frying eggs sunny side up.
The bread popped out of the toaster and there was freshly brewed coffee, finely sliced ham, and cheese on the table.
Liz nodded faintly as she understood that breakfast was the reason why Max finished his shower in record time.
"You could have told me, Max. I would also hurry so that I can help."
Max looked at her over his shoulder and smiled. "You can still help. Grab that toast and apply butter on it before it cools off."
Liz went to the fridge and located the butter. She noticed that fresh milk and orange juice.
"This does not look like a house that is rented for some occasions…", Liz voiced her observations. Everything looked homey, and exactly according to their tastes.
Max arranged eggs in two plates and placed them on the table before answering. "It's not."
"You know the owner?", Liz guessed.
"Very well.", Max looked at Liz and wiggled his eyebrows.
Liz paused. "This is yours?"
"Ours.", Max corrected her.
Liz's eyes widened in shock. "What?"
"You don't like it?"
"No, it's not that. This place is beautiful but…" Liz exhaled and reminded herself that Max is loaded. They normally stay in his apartment (and sometimes hers) and both work and don't indulge in luxuries, so it's easy to forget that Max and Liz have easy access to millions of dollars without the need to sell other assets that they own. "When did you buy this?"
"I started looking for the right place since the time when we agreed to move onto the next step after your speech at the symposium."
"Wow…", Liz said under her breath. She remembered that they spoke about it on the weekend when Quentin and Brianna got married. Was that the first time? It didn't matter. "So, we can come here anytime."
"Yes."
Liz smiled. "Nice. I wanted to try that open pool, and I was sad that there was no time. I guess I will try it out next time. How long does it take to drive from here to the city?"
"About half an hour by road, and ten minutes by helicopter."
Liz blinked as she understood the underlying meaning behind his words, but she wanted to confirm... "The helicopter we used last night is yours?"
"Ours.", Max corrected her. "The pilot doubles as the driver so he can take us around when we want to snuggle in the back seat."
Liz was impressed. "I saw three bedrooms. What else is here?"
"Three bedrooms and a lounge area are on the upper floor. The main floor has a living room, dining room, kitchen, and two more bedrooms. There is a basement with a media room, a gym, and a six-car garage… There is a second house on the property for the staff and other than the driver, there are three more people to maintain the property and the house. One cooks, one is the gardener…"
Liz munched on the toast and listened about the property. Everything sounded wonderful and whatever she saw so far was high-end and appeared new. She regretted that they were out of time to explore it now. But it's theirs and with so many bedrooms, they can get their friends here for a weekend in Vegas.
"Thank you, Max…", Liz said dreamily. "You got us a house in the desert, I guess I should buy something in the forest. Maybe next to a lake so that we can go boating and swimming. It should be big enough so that it can accommodate our friends and family when we wish for company. Nathan and Isaac could go fishing…"
Max was happy that Liz was already considering to combine their families. Max was more thinking about romantic retreats just for the two of them, but he was not concerned about finding privacy wherever they are. He was confident that as long as they are together, it will be fine. And Liz said that she will marry him, so… they will be together. "We will have many properties, so wherever we go, we will be at home."
Liz bobbed her head excitedly. "Sounds wonderful..."
There was one more surprise waiting for Liz when she returns to Seattle, but Max decided to keep that a secret. He purchased both of their apartments so now they own the top floor of the building they live in. But that is only the first part of the surprise. The second half is that right now remodel is ongoing, transforming the open hallway into a private entryway, so that from the elevator there is only one door with a keypad that leads to an entryway that provides access to both of their apartments. With this, their two apartments are officially combined into one.
Max smiled as he imagined carrying Liz princess style over the threshold. There will be flowers and wine and she will love it!
He made plans to finish with meetings at work early so that he can do final preparations before Liz returns in the evening, and he will pick her up at the airport and it will be perfect!
