47 Second morning together

Name:Accident Prone Author:RedSonia
Elizabeth woke up, holding onto an unfamiliar oversized bolster pillow… but then, it was not her first time, so she was not completely shocked. What DID shock her is that she is in an unfamiliar bed and those are definitely NOT her pajamas.

Just how much did she drink? Did Max abandon her and she ended up as a prey to some scoundrel? When she gets her hands on Max, she will give him a piece of her mind! How dares he leave her behind?!

Her mind was racing a thousand thoughts a second, coming up with all kinds of scenarios, and random ideas assaulted her still drowsy brain, but she felt that she still has her panties on.

If someone took advantage of her, would they put the panties back on?

Few seconds into her panic-mode Liz calmed down and paid attention to her bolster...

"Max?", she scrambled away from him.

He smiled drowsily. "I'm happy you didn't kick me out."

Max saw her confusion and explained: "My apartment. I don't have the passcode of yours, so I brought you here. It seems that you were uncomfortable in a dress and you removed it. I put that t-shirt on you without peeking. Did I miss anything?"

Liz visibly relaxed. No matter how crazy his explanation is, it is much better than him abandoning her and she waking up with some random guy. But she has few questions…

Liz glanced over his toned chest which were uncovered and did her best not to stare or to think that she was holding onto him until a minute ago. "Are you... naked?"

Max smirked and started removing the cover.

She swiftly grabbed the cover and pulled it back up. "Can you just answer me?"

He stifled a laugh. "No. I'm not naked."

Liz exhaled in relief.

"Is anything wrong with your other bedrooms?"

Max understood that she is asking why he brought her in his bed. "What would you do if you woke up by yourself in a strange place, wearing someone else's t-shirt?"

"Sorry…", Liz mumbled when she realized that he is right because she was panicking until she realized that it's him by her side.

She moved back under the cover and closed her eyes.

Max was surprised that there are no more questions. Is that it? She is not worried that she woke up in a bed next to a man and she does not remember how she got here? Or how she ended up wearing almost nothing other than his t-shirt? She will not ask if he took advantage of her? Is she not suspicious of him at all?

As if she can feel his emotional turmoil, Elizabeth opened her eyes. "What?"

Max had to ask: "Are you not curious if I did anything inappropriate to you?"

"You?" She burst into giggles. "Max, I've never felt safer next to a man in my life."

He smiled at her statement. That should be a good thing, right?

His face darkened at her next words…

"If I'm a guy, I might be worried, but like this…"

She stopped talking when she felt Max's body on top of hers.

"Elizabeth…", Max's voice was low, and it made her feel the danger while intensity in his blue eyes didn't allow her to look away. "I don't know what possessed you to think that I am…", he struggled to say the next word: "…gay."

Max leaned closer and his nose brushed over her neck while he took a deep breath, allowing her scent to fill his lungs.

"Every cell in my body is screaming from the maddening desire to take you, to devour you until you lose yourself over and over again."

His hot breath was splashing on her neck, sending shivers through her body.

Elizabeth felt an excitement mix with a fear of unknown, and she was unsure which one is stronger, but she knew that she is not afraid of Max. If he is a scoundrel, he would take advantage of her long time ago. No matter what he does and what he says, she is confident that he will not do anything against her will. She knows that much.

She closed her eyes acknowledged the feeling of his body on top of hers, and his masculine scent and somehow… it made her feel safe.

She smiled. "What is stopping you?"

"I…" He lifted his head and observed her expression, with confusion apparent on his face. Why is she smiling? Shouldn't she dislike the fact that he is on top of her, almost threatening that he will take her? He decided to answer her question. Honestly: "I don't want to do anything that will make you hate me."

She nodded in acknowledgement and after a second grimaced. "You are heavy."

"Sorry…", he moved to the side.

Elizabeth was happy that he listened, and it confirmed that he will not do anything against her will.

She decided to address the pressing topic: "This is in no particular order, but… You asked a stranger to pretend to be your girlfriend in front of your family, and Hunter told me that you have some issues which are difficult to talk about. Quentin mentioned that the two of you have a special relationship. And I could not believe that anyone can have thousands of women in his past for real, so I assumed that you are dating randomly in order to hide that you are gay. The other option was to believe that you are a shallow bastard who treats women as disposable objects… all that together added up to me thinking that you are gay."

Max threw himself backward on the bed while thinking about what Liz said.

It all makes sense, in a way. Liz is not crazy or possessed. She is so kindhearted, and she will rather convince herself that he is gay than to believe that he is a shallow bastard who treats women as disposable objects. Quentin was right. She is so pure that she is unable to see how dirty he is. She is an angel, and he does not deserve her.

Does this mean that he needs to let her go? To give up? His heart ached.

Liz saw his expression shift and she realized that her words probably hurt him.

"Hey…", she said softly. "You are not a complete bastard. I can vouch that you have some good sides and that you will not do anything against a woman's will."

He looked at her and shook his head while wondering, why is she comforting him? Must be an angel's thing which he does not understand.

Max wanted to make sure she does not come up with more random theories (like that he is gay). "What I said when I was on top of you… I meant it."

Liz felt her face burning as blush invaded her cheeks while his words repeated in her head: 'maddening desire… take you… devour you… lose yourself over and over again…'

A small part of her wondered how that would feel, to be lost in a desire. No one ever told her anything like that. It sounded more like a promise than a threat.

"I know.", Liz said after a long silence.

His brows furrowed slightly while he tried to understand what is going on in her head. Her brain must be wired differently. No matter how he thinks about it, she didn't throw herself at him while screaming to take her and he knows that she is not interested in just indulging into carnal pleasures.

"Aren't you appalled by my words? Offended? Why are you still here and not running to your place?"

Liz shrugged. "Last night you promised no lies. And I hope that you are comfortable enough with me to say what is on your mind. No matter if you are gay or not, the fact that I feel safe with you will not change. Unless you do something to prove me wrong."

Max was surprised by this logic. But then he remembered the deal they made: he will not lie, no games and he will treat her with respect… and she believes him.

"You want to know what is on my mind?" He decided to try his luck: "I want to kiss you."

Liz frowned for a second while thinking how to respond. Then she craned her neck and pointed at her cheek. "Here."

Max was not sure if he should laugh or cry. "That is not the kiss I was going for."

"That is the only one you will get. Take it or leave it."

Max is not silly to miss an opportunity. No matter how small it is.

"I will take whatever you are willing to give me.", he said after he kissed her cheek.

Liz got cozy under the cover. "Thank you for the last night. Because you were there, I was able to relax. I don't remember the last time when I was not cautious about my surroundings."

"You are welcome, I guess."

"You guess?"

Max looked at her seriously and responded: "As a man, hearing that a woman relaxed next to me… makes me feel less like a man."

Liz stifled a laugh: "As a woman, I don't want to be near a man who makes me tense."

Max wondered, how is it possible that Liz said the opposite from him, and he sees her point and agrees with her?!

"Liz, you are literally flipping my world upside down."

"I hope in a good way."

He smiled in response.

Max realized that Liz will leave soon. He wants her to stay longer. "Can I interest you in a coffee? Breakfast?"

"Oh… I actually have breakfast plans." Liz saw that Max's mood fell, and she quickly added: "Olivia will bring pastries and we will be at my place. You are welcome to join, if you wish."

Max's face lit up and he didn't give her a chance to change her mind. "Give me one minute…"

Liz watched him dash into the bathroom.

She wanted to say that there is no rush. She will go to her apartment and he can come later whenever he is set because they are planning the whole morning of snacks and coffee.

But he is gone already, and she will wait because it seems that he wants them to go over together. And she is not the one to say 'no' to few extra minutes in the bed.

Liz sank deeper under the cover and took a deep breath. She smiled while thinking that it smells nice.
