71 Getting to know each other Mia and Hunter 1

Name:Accident Prone Author:RedSonia
Mia and Hunter are in a Brazilian restaurant.

It's one of those restaurants which features a huge buffet filled with salads and side dishes while number of waiters are weaving their way in-between tables while carrying large metal rods with perfectly grilled meat impaled, ready to be cut and placed on the plates of customers.

Each customer has a token with "Yes, please" on one side and "No, thank you" on the other. "Yes" is if you want more meat, and "No" is telling the waiters not to bother you (at this time).

Mia enjoyed the meaty-heaven: chicken, beef, pork, lamb… everything was perfectly roasted or grilled. And some pieces were wrapped in bacon! If there is such thing as heaven, Mia reached it.

About halfway into filling her stomach, Mia looked at Hunter while chewing slowly.

She was trying to figure out Hunter.

He showed up that morning in Liz's apartment. Based on the show she witnessed, Max colluded with Hunter so that they get into their lunch with Dr. Snow. Hunter is not interested in any of the girls, so he did it for food. Mia approved. She would do the same. Why not help a friend (or in this case a brother) and score a meal?

After lunch, Mia went with Hunter to the sports club and had a good game. Based on Hunter's moves, Mia can see that he is… athletic. Tall, definitely tall. And he is skilled enough to play decently while protecting her. Yes, she noticed that he kept opponents away from her. As much as she does not need pampering, it showed that he has some crazy skills.

Mia didn't understand why Hunter was grumpy when he exited the dressing room, but his mood improved when they left the sports club. Maybe because he saw his three friends losing their minds when they realized that the two of them just left, considering that all three of them wanted to take her out for a coffee (or something like that).

What was that with that sudden dinner invitation in front of the elevator? She was mentally planning for dinner options and then Hunter showed up behind her with an offer she could not refuse. They went upstairs and she got ready in Liz's apartment, while Hunter went to Max's. Mia was happy to see that Hunter changed into fresh clothes, but nothing too fancy: jeans pants and a shirt. She is in jeans pants and a tunic, so they almost matched.

The food is amazing and she should not complain, but she can't help but wonder about his motives.

Hunter was surprised that Mia gave him her attention. So far, she treated him like he is invisible. They didn't talk at all! He wanted to start talking more than once but was unsure what to say so he decided to stay quiet.

Based on the morning in Liz's apartment, Mia is chatty. Based on his observation from their game, she can talk smack… but during a meal, she is quiet. He found that interesting.

Hunter glanced at Mia and lifted his eyebrows questionably while his chewing pace matched hers.

"Why did you bring me out for dinner?", Mia asked.

"You said that the best way to thank you is to feed you.", Hunter responded.

"That is correct. But it's Saturday. Don't you have a date or some other plans?"

"Not really."

Mia was not sure if she should believe Hunter. Objectively looking, he is a handsome young man. And how much she saw, he is not socially awkward. To add to that, Mia noticed two waitresses and several ladies at nearby tables throwing amorous glances at Hunter… he should have no problems finding a date (if he stops focusing on the food). That is why Mia finds it unusual that he has no plans on Saturday evening.

"How come?", Mia asked.

"Between my studies and work, my calendar on weekdays is full. I try to do something active with my mates on the weekends so by Wednesday, my next weekend is planned as well. With everything tightly planned, I keep my weekend evenings open so that I do whatever I feel at that moment. It keeps me sane."

"Oh…", Mia let out a sound and focused back on her plate.

Hunter saw that Mia has no further questions, and no intention to talk to him more, so he focused on the food as well.

More than an hour later…

"I think I reached my limit.", Mia patted her belly.

Hunter chuckled. "You must be a medical phenomenon. How can such a small woman eat so much food?"

Mia grimaced, but she will not argue with a man who just provided her with a good meal. And he is right about the fact that she has a healthy appetite (for three people, maybe more).

"Thank you for the lovely dinner. I see you know how to treat a lady.", Mia winked playfully on the way out of the restaurant.

Hunter smiled and gestured toward the parking lot. "Let me take you back. What are your plans for the rest of the evening?"

"The food was amazing, but heavy. I need to burn it. Normally, I would go for a run, but I'm not familiar with the neighborhood so I will probably go to the gym in Liz's building. There is one, right?"

Hunter confirmed. "Yes, on the second floor. But they have few boring machines. If you want some real exercise, I know the place."

Mia's eyes lit up. "I'm listening…"

Hunter and Mia entered a gym which has a large mat area, two fighting rinks and number of bags hanging from the ceiling for kicking and punching.

"Hunter!", a man in his mid-thirties called cheerfully.

"AJ…", Hunter responded with a smile.

"You haven't been here in ages!", AJ complained while giving Hunter a hug and patting his back.

"Yeah. I've got things going on…" Hunter glanced around. "Busy night?"

AJ turned toward the vast gym area. There is about ten people in the gym, practicing various moves and some of them are sparring. "Not how it used to be…"

AJ is the owner of the gym. Hunter is coming here for more than ten years. Last three years he is not coming often because he has much less free time since he started working in the company in parallel to his MBA studies. And on weekends (which are reserved for activities), Hunter prefers team sports, with his mates. In that way he combines exercise and socializing.

AJ looked at Mia and then at Hunter. "Girlfriend?"

"A friend who is a girl.", Hunter clarified. "She wants to burn some energy. Can you get her a change of clothes?"

AJ grinned at Mia and wiped his hand on his t-shirt before extending it for a handshake. "Nice to meet you, pretty lady. I am AJ."

"Careful…", Hunter growled at AJ.

AJ frowned at Hunter. "You said that she is not your girlfriend. So, I might try my luck."

Hunter glared at AJ. He didn't like the idea of AJ hitting on Mia. Even if she is not his girlfriend, they came together!

AJ looked at Mia and his grin was back on. "May I know your name, pretty lady?"

Mia laughed and shook AJ's hand. "Mia."

"Mia... a pretty name for a pretty lady. Tell me, how did you end up with this grumpy man on this fine Saturday evening?", AJ asked Mia while ignoring Hunter.

"He fed me."

AJ pursed his lips and nodded in understanding. "The way to your heart is through your stomach… How about I feed you when you are done with burning your energy?"

"How about that change of clothes?", Mia asked AJ.

"Sure, sure… Let me show you where you can change. I will be delighted to give you a personal lesson in kickboxing. There is nothing better than a late night meal with me after a good exercise…"

Hunter watched AJ lead Mia toward the dressing room, and he was upset. Did they ignore him? He reminded himself to stay cool. AJ flirts with any woman who shows up in his gym, and Mia is definitely not the type to fall for his cheesy lines.
