247 It's time to break up 2

Sabrina checked herself in the mirror before opening the door of her apartment.

She didn't have time to change or finish blow-drying her hair, so she pulled her hair in a ponytail and put a light pullover on, mostly to conceal her cleavage. She does not want to look attractive for Jackson.

Sabrina swiftly inspected the living area, to confirm that there are no lingering signs of Ashton.

Sabrina does not want to confirm to Jackson that she is in love with Ashton. She wants to make a clean breakup where she will explain that the current arrangement does not work anymore. Or something like that. But she does not want to implicate Ashton. If Jackson asks, she will deny it.

"Flowers again?", Sabrina asked when she saw Jackson in front of her apartment with a huge bouquet of red roses.

"Is it unusual for me to bring flowers to my fiancée?", Jackson smiled, pretending not to see Sabrina's displeasure.

Sabrina narrowed her eyes. "Didn't we agree that the engagement thing is for the audience? There is no need for you to do this when no one is watching."

Jackson frowned slightly while wondering if she will really reject his flowers. It seems that the distance between them is more than he thought. "But I already got them…"

Sabrina saw that he is not budging, and she took the flowers irritably. She has no intention to waste time on useless flowers.

Sabrina turned to walk inside her apartment. "Come in…"

She kept the flowers on the side table and turned to Jackson who was observing the living room.

"To what do I owe this visit?", Sabrina asked.

"Can I sit?", Jackson gestured toward the sofa.

Sabrina shrugged.

Jackson sat on the sofa and observed Sabrina who is standing on the opposite side of the coffee table with her arms crossed over her chest.

"I sent you a few messages, you are not responding, so I came to ask in person." Jackson said with a smile.

Sabrina remembered that yesterday Jackson sent her a number of messages. She was so concerned about Ashton that she forgot to answer. "You want me to go with you to the event tonight?"

Jackson smiled. "I told you that I would prefer to go with you."

"You also said that if I can't go, you are fine with just an invitation. I secured you an invitation."

Jackson was not happy to hear that she is rejecting him. But he didn't come here to accept rejection. "Do you have something else to do?"

Sabrina exhaled. "Jackson, what are you doing?"

"What do you mean?", Jackson asked innocently.

"Family function is one thing, but I never go to these parties with you. My lack of response should make it clear that my answer is 'no'. You came to my work twice this week and now you are in my apartment. Why? Is this all because of one event? Can't you find any of your other women to accompany you? It would not be the first time."

Jackson exhaled. Sure, Sabrina is smart. However, there is no way that he will admit how he wants to charm her. And he knows that he needs to approach her softly. He made a distressed expression. "Rina, don't be like that…"

Sabrina saw that he looks dejected and her irritation bubbled. If he thinks that she will fall for that act, he is mistaken. "Like what? For eight years I am entertaining this charade of a relationship. So far I didn't bother with any of your side women, and you didn't meddle in my life either. I want to know, what changed?"

"Maybe I realized how amazing woman you are."

Sabrina burst into a laugh. "You are kidding me."

Jackson stood up. "I am serious."

Sabrina shook her head in disbelief. "You know, Jack… if you were serious eight years ago, maybe something would happen. But from the start, you used your sickness to make me move as you want and you said that as long as we pretend to be a couple, and you can use my name next to yours, that's it. From the beginning, you made it something between a contract and blackmail. That killed any possibility of a real romance. I think that it's time for us to stop this charade and move on with our lives."

Jackson realized that the situation is worse than he thought. She wants a break-up? There is no way he will discuss that option. He decided to bring out another point. "Blackmail?"

"How else would you call the fact that whenever something does not go your way, you bring up epilepsy?"

Jackson exhaled sadly. "You are talking like a person who does not have this sickness. Do you think that I want it? Do you think that I planned for this? My whole life is messed up because of this. You owe me!"

Sabrina shook her head in disbelief. He just proved her point! "Ah, and here we go again."

Jackson walked around the table and stopped two steps in front of Sabrina. He observed her defiant face carefully. "You changed."

"Maybe I grew up."

Jackson realized that an innocent and soft approach does not work anymore. Well, he might as well try another way… "Is it because of Ashton?"

Sabrina clenched her teeth. "There is no need for you to bring him up. This is between me and you."

"Oh, so you can bring up my side girls, but I can't bring up your boy-toy?"

"Ashton is not a boy-toy."

Jackson's mocking expression told Sabrina that he does not believe her. "I saw how he is looking at you. You can't deny that there is something going on. What I want to know is, who is he to you?"

Sabrina wanted to say that Ashton is nobody, that he is not important, but she could not make herself push those words out of her mouth. "He is someone you will never be."

Jackson's eyes flashed in anger. "So, you admit it? You are sleeping with him! Does he come here? Or you go to his place? Or do you go to a hotel? What is it about him that got your attention? He has no money, no status… so it must be that he is a good fuck."

Sabrina was outraged. "How dare you!"

Jackson moved closer to Sabrina and narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Oh, I dare. You girls are after three things: money, status, or pleasure. Since he does not have the first two, he must be great at the third one."

"You are disgusting. Do you really think that everyone is so shallow like you?"

Jackson placed his palm over his chest dramatically. "Oh, you hurt my feelings." In the next moment, his face turned vicious. "I have money and status. Maybe I should show you that I have all three."

Sabrina moved backward, and he grabbed her wrist.

"You would not dare…", Sabrina squeezed through her teeth.

"My only mistake was that I didn't touch you so far. If I claimed you completely, you would not think about rebelling. There is no better time than now to show you that Ashton is a lower class than me in every way po…"

'POW!'

A fist flew in from the side and landed on Jackson's face.

By the time Sabrina got to her senses, Jackson was on the floor. She wondered if he is dead, he is not moving.

She wanted to scold Max for being violent, but when she turned to her right, she inhaled sharply. "Ashton…"

Ashton's heart cracked.

On his way here, he thought of many possibilities. And he told himself that the best thing for everyone is for him and Sabrina to stay apart until she figures out her situation with Jackson. And he was confident that he can say those words. But when he entered the apartment, he heard that Jackson is blackmailing Sabrina to stay in a relationship with him, and that Jackson is cheating on Sabrina, and she said that he (Ashton) is not her boy-toy, and she defended him as someone important.

How can he stay away from the woman he adores when he knows that the feelings are mutual and that she is ready to fight for them? He will not let her fight alone.

Ashton moved toward Sabrina and stopped a few inches away from her. "Are you OK?

He was not sure if she would like to be touched after what just happened, so he silently opened his arms, offering her a hug.

"Oh, Ashton… I am so sorry…", Sabrina sobbed while throwing herself in his embrace. "I wanted to tell you, but I didn't know how to. There is nothing between me and…"

"Shh…", Ashton interrupted Sabrina while tightening his hold on her. It's not that Ashton does not want to hear what she has to say, but she is trembling. Whatever she wants to say, it can wait. "Let's talk later."

"I am scared…", Sabrina whispered.

"Of?", he whispered back.

"That there will be no later. That you will leave me. That he will hurt you…", Sabrina said in a shaky voice.

"None of that will happen. No matter what, as long as you want to be with me, we will be together and there is nothing Jackson or anyone else can do about it."

Sabrina's eyes filled with tears. "Oh, Ashton…"

Her vision was blurry, but she saw that Ashton lowered his head and she welcomed his lips with hers. Sabrina's whole body shook when Ashton's flavors entered her mouth and she tightened her hold on him because the room was spinning. Oh, God, she missed him immensely!

Jackson grimaced and rubbed his cheek. That bastard hit him! And it was so hard that he almost passed out! Who hits so strongly?

In the next moment, Jackson realized that Ashton showed up, and no one let him in. Was he in this apartment from the beginning? Or does he have the passcode?

Jackson's eyes widened when he saw Sabrina in Ashton's embrace. And they are so into it that they are not paying attention to him.

Oy! He is right here! The fiancé! Maybe Sabrina said that she wants to break up, but he didn't agree to it!

Jackson heard that Sabrina said how she is scared, and that Ashton responded how no matter what, they will be together.

He gritted his teeth. If they thought that he is out of tricks, they are gravely mistaken. He only needs to remind Sabrina what she owes him, and she will come back to him. As always.

Jackson reached into his pocket and popped a small pill in his mouth. Ten seconds later, white foam appeared from his mouth and his limbs started jerking violently.
