"Not trouble. Bet. This is a bet.", Liz explained with an earnest expression on her face and she started talking quickly: "They asked me why I'm waiting for you and I said that you are worth waiting for, because you are perfect. They didn't believe me that you are perfect, and I said that there is nothing you are not good at, and then they said how they are good at the pool and I said that you are better and… here we are... with a bet."

Max blinked. How can she make such a bet when she never saw him playing a game of pool before? And there was another thing… "What are the stakes?"

Liz looked at two locals. "We didn't talk about that."

"Is there a bigger stake than a man's pride?", the local closer to Liz said as he pounded his chest with his fist proudly. "I'm Justin and this is Devan. Are you up for a game? The loser pays for drinks. We let you pick if you will play against me or Devan."

Max introduced himself and he wondered if Justin's confidence comes with matching skills. Well, there is only one way to find out.

Max glanced at Liz. "Let's play in pairs. You and Devan against Liz and me."

Justin and Devan agreed immediately, and Liz had a shocked expression as panic swelled inside her.

"I never played pool. You should not team up with me.", Liz whispered with urgency.

Max chuckled and whispered back. "I never played either, but you put me in this position and even claimed that I am perfect. As a man, I can't refuse or I will make you look bad."

Liz was not sure if Max is serious or if he is messing around. She continued in a whisper: "You are lying, right? You played before. And you are good at it because you are good at everything."

Max shrugged. "You don't know that."

"Eh? Are you two backing off?", Devan asked.

"Order the drinks for everyone.", Max announced. "We will have two more beers and the loser will pay for the order."

Justin and Devan happily bobbed their heads and went to the bar and Max guessed that they did this many times before.

Max gestured to Liz toward the pool table.

Liz stood up with shaky legs that reflected the state of her confidence. "You shouldn't play with me. I have no idea what to do. I will mess up everything."

Max pulled Liz into his embrace and spoke close to her ear: "Relax… it's geometry and physics and I'm sure you are great at both. It also requires a steady hand, and I know you've got that. The only thing you are lacking is experience, but with small guidance from my side, you will play like a pro in no time."

"How can you be so confident in me?"

"You don't look upset."

"I am not.", Max admitted. "I am elated that you have so much faith in my abilities."

Liz exhaled. "I have in yours, but not in mine."

Max thought for a second before responding. "Do you remember bowling?"

Liz remembered how they went bowling and Max taught her because it was her first time, and they ended up winning against Mia and Hunter. Then, Liz and Max used a tactic to shake up their opponents… maybe they can do the same. Liz looked into Max's eyes and nodded. That bowling match showed Liz that if they work together, they can win. Max will teach her and she is a fast learner.

Max and Liz were at the pool table when Justin and Devan joined them, each with two drinks in their hands.

"You hit the white cue ball with the cue and that one will hit the others… If you fail to put your desired ball in a pocket, you lose your turn…"

"Eh? You are explaining the rules?", Devan asked Max.

Max confirmed the obvious and explained: "It's her first time."

Justin and Devan exchanged glances before Justin gestured toward the table. "Let her have a few shots so that she gets used to the cue and the balls…"

Max's smile widened. If they didn't offer, he would ask for that.

Max took the white ball and gestured at the center. "If you hit the center, it will go straight. If you hit on the side, the ball will get a spin and that will affect its trajectory after it bounces against the wall or another ball… try it…"

Liz watched Max place the white ball on the table and push the other ones out of the way.

"Give one hit in the middle… As hard as you can, without losing the control…", Max instructed.

"Wait…", Max called when Liz bent over the table and he saw her hold onto the cue clumsily.

He jogged behind her.

"Let me show you how to hold the cue…", Max's breath caressed her ear, and she felt his body pressing on top of hers.

Max started explaining: "Use your left hand as a stand… like this... and hold the back of the cue with your right… and… are you listening?"

"Hmm?", Liz hummed dreamily.

Max chuckled. Her face was flushed, and she was pressing her bottom against his crotch!

"If you are like that, we might as well throw in the match and leave this place because you are giving me a hard-on.", Max murmured close to her ear.

"I can't help it. You are too sexy.", Liz breathed. "My body is moving toward yours and I'm unable to control it."

Max licked his lips slowly. "Do you want us to leave? Or should I ask everyone to leave so that I can have you on this pool table?"

Liz cleared her throat. "Let's leave after the game."

"OK." Max acknowledged and continued adjusting her hands. "Focus on the white ball. Now hit it in the center…"

Next, she hit the white ball on either side and observed the behavior, and then he placed another ball and told Liz to try hitting it with the white one.

A few hits later, they announced that they are ready.

A coin toss decided that Justin and Devan get to start the game. Justin took his turn first.

"He needs to make a legal break.", Max was explaining to Liz. "That means that at least four balls need to hit the edge cushions and that the white cue ball doesn't go down the pocket."

"What if he fails?", Liz asked.

"If the break is not legal, we get to decide if we want to continue playing, or we want him to break again. Also, there is an option that we break. If the cue ball gets pocketed, that is a foul and it's our turn to play…"

"Yo, man… you talking about all those rules... I'm getting nervous…", Justin complained while leaning above the table to break the balls.

"If that is enough to throw you off your game, then you are not much of a player.", Liz responded tauntingly.

Devon snickered.

Justin played and Max continued explaining the rules to Liz. She understood that because Justin is hitting the solid ones, she should focus on the striped ones, and once all of them are in, the black eight-ball needs to be pocketed last.

Three balls later, Justin missed pocketing a ball and Liz jolted when Max told her that it's her turn.

"What should I do?", Liz asked Max.

"Look at the table. Do you see any that has an open trajectory to the pocket, and you can hit it cleanly with the white one?"

Liz was happy that she got one striped ball inside the corner pocket. Max guided her, but she did it by herself. She was excited by her initial good hit and her aim was off… and Devan got his turn.

Devan was in a league of his own and it was obvious that he is a much better player than Justin. He skillfully pocketed the remaining balls, and they were down to the black one.
