Monday
Hunter was setting up the table with breakfast, when he heard Mia's voice from behind: "What do you think?"
Hunter turned around and his eyebrows shoot up when he saw Mia in a black business suit. The type men are usually wearing, but this one was her size.
"Is this how you are going?", Hunter asked cautiously.
Mia nodded in confirmation and repeated her question. "What do you think? How do I look?"
Hunter tilted his head to the right, then to the left, and observed Mia from head to her toes.
"You are cute.", he said after some time.
Mia frowned. "I am not going for cute here. Bri needs security. Cute will not work. Oh, wait! I know!"
Mia dashed back into the bedroom and a few seconds later, returned with big sunglasses that covered her eyes. The thin metallic rim framing the traditional Ray-Ban aviator shape was a giveaway that those are sunglasses for men.
"How about now? Anything different?", Mia asked with a grin on her face.
"Uhm… those are mine."
Mia pouted. "Come on, Hunter. I'm going for dangerous and unapproachable and the only thing you noticed was that I am cute and that I have your sunglasses."
Hunter smiled and walked toward Mia. "Let me see you from the back…"
Mia turned and a second later, Hunter enveloped her in his hug and murmured close to her ear: "No matter what you wear, for me, you will be cute. And I don't mind you wearing my sunglasses… but I prefer that you remove everything else."
Mia giggled. "Be serious. This is the first time someone is asking me to be a bodyguard. You know… If this works out, maybe I can talk to my dad and we can rebrand the organization from 'hire to kill' to 'hire to guard'."
"That sounds like a plan. I'm sure you will make it a big success.", Hunter said dotingly.
Mia turned to face him. "Really? You won't mind if I work with my dad?"
Hunter removed the sunglasses so that he can see her blue eyes without obstructions.
"Why would I mind? I told you more than once that you are free to do whatever you want. As long as I am part of your life, I will be fine."
Mia's chin trembled and she buried her face in his chest. "Thank you, love."
Hunter didn't understand why Mia is so emotional, but he will never refuse hugs from her.
They held each other until the coffee machine beeped, reminding them that their morning beverage is ready.
Mia glanced at the table full of breakfast items and she grinned at her fiancé. "You know how to please a woman."
"Only one woman.", Hunter corrected Mia and pecked her lips. "On the first day I met you, I realized that you are like a cat. As long as I keep on filling your stomach, you will not leave me."
This request from Brianna about Mia acting as her bodyguard thing came unexpectedly, and Mia is excited about it, even though it's only a one-time thing.
"Do you know why Bri needs a bodyguard suddenly? Did she get into some trouble?", Hunter asked Mia over breakfast.
Brianna called last night and asked Mia for a favor. Before Mia could ask any questions or answer with 'yes' or 'no', there was a sound of their doorbell: a courier delivered a suit for Mia.
Brianna knows Mia's measurements, and both Mia and Hunter were surprised that the suit fits Mia perfectly. It is one thing to expect that Mia will accept to help Bri without questions asked, but since when does Brianna have a suit ready for Mia? And Brianna obviously sent it over before calling Mia.
Hunter can't believe that Mia didn't ask what the favor is, and he thought that he will pass out when Mia asked: 'Is lunch included?'
As soon as Brianna confirmed that lunch will be covered, Mia agreed. Brianna is the one who said that she will send details to Mia later, and Mia didn't care about it at all.
Back to the present…
Mia swallowed a mouthful before responding to Hunter's question. "She texted me this morning to confirm that I'm coming and told me that we will go to Reynolds Publishing. It seems that Q has something going on, and Brianna will be there. Brianna wants someone she can trust to watch over her." Mia ended her talk while smugly pointing at herself as a trustworthy person.
Hunter didn't like the lack of details. "Nothing else?"
Mia shrugged. "What else do you expect? Don't tell me that you doubt my capabilities? Also, if Brianna will be there, it can't be dangerous. Q would not allow that."
Hunter agrees with Mia's deduction, but… "Maybe Max knows. He is advising Quentin about his company, so if anything big is going on, Max should be part of it. I will talk to Max. Keep your phone on. If something is fishy, I will warn you. Even better, I will join you."
Mia waved her hand, indicating to Hunter that she does not approve. "Don't overreact. You have your job to do, and today… I have mine. You said that you will support whatever I do, and this is what I want to do."
"I said that I'm OK with you working with your dad.", Hunter reminded Mia. "That means sitting in an office and telling your employees what to do, and not going to face dangers."
Mia blinked. "Do you really see me as a person who works in a crummy office? I would wither from the inside. Not to mention that I would be fat from the lack of physical exercise."
Hunter's lips stretched into a smile. How come Mia didn't mention cutting down on the food? Ah, that is his future wife, a gluton. He really met his match.
"I only want you to be safe, and don't worry about exercise. I will make sure you have plenty of those."
Mia saw him wiggle his eyebrows and she wanted to argue back, but he was adorable and mischievous… and Mia decided to continue eating. Brianna will come to pick up Mia soon and she needs to eat enough food to last her until lunchtime. With her being by Brianna's side, Mia is not sure if she will have her usual snack-time.
After breakfast, Hunter got ready and headed to work first. He wanted to wait for Brianna and clarify a few things related to Mia being Brianna's bodyguard, but there was an important meeting, and Max needed Hunter. Also, because of Irene, Hunter and Foxy made a schedule to watch Max's back while in the company. So far, Irene is focused on her work, but no one knows what is going on in her mind, and at what point she might snap.
"Make sure to call me if anything happens.", Hunter told Mia before he left the apartment.
"Don't worry, nothing will happen. You know me.", Mia did her best to pacify Hunter.
Hunter gave Mia a stern look. "I know you. That is why I am worried."
Mia looked at Hunter helplessly. "No matter what I say, it can't be good."
Hunter hugged her tightly. "That is correct. The only good thing will be for you to come back to me safely."
Mia melted into his embrace. "At this point, neither of us will go anywhere. Don't you have a meeting to get to?"
Hunter let go of Mia reluctantly, gave her a few soft kisses, and left without a word.
Mia looked at the closed door for some time while thinking about Hunter's words. She understands that Hunter wants her to be safe, and he said that he will support Mia working with her dad (aka Fabricio), but... did Hunter really think that means she will sit in an office? Even her dad goes on the field once in a while, and there is no way that she would stay behind.
Mia pressed her lips into a line. It seems that Mia talking to Hunter about her working with Fabricio became more complicated.
