Chapter 239
Time ticked past.
When Zhong Yuhuan calmed down, she clearly heard Huo Chengming’s voice talking to the person on the other side of the phone. Huo Chengming spoke in English, but would occasionally add in a bit of Italian and a handful of Turkish.
When Zhong Yuhuan heard this, she instinctively turned towards Huo Chengming.
Zhong Yuhuan felt a bit surprised.
She would seldom notice the details of Huo Chengming’s speech.
But now, because her vision was obstructed, her other senses became more acute than ever! Zhong Yuhuan captured the sullen anger of Huo Chengming’s tone, as well as a bit of coldness when he lowered his voice.
This made her feel like Huo Chengming wasn’t asking the embassy for help, but rather reprimanding his subordinates or cooperators.
Zhong Yuhuan hadn’t spoken for a long time.
Li Jinyuan seemed to unconsciously hold her finger, then asked, “Is Huanhuan still scared?”
Zhong Yuhuan shook her head, curiously asking, “Who’s Huo Chengming calling?”
“Embassy.”
“The one who called the embassy was you. Does it take this long to call for help?” Zhong Yuhuan said unhappily.
What the hell!
They haven’t even had girlfriends yet, nor embarked on a private life but already have their own little secret! Zhong Yuhuan thought sadly.
When Huo Chengming heard her voice, he hung up without any changes in his expression. “I’ve hung up.” He paused, then said, “There’ll be someone picking us up in a bit.”
Zhong Yuhuan broke away from Li Jinyuan’s hand, tugging on the coat.
Huo Chengming’s windbreaker nearly wrapped her up from head to toe. She popped her head out and cleared her sight by tugging on the coat. She looked at Huo Chengming, just as he was looking towards her. Unprepared, Zhong Yuhuan looked into Huo Chengming’s eyes. She unconsciously shivered from his deep and focused gaze.
Zhong Yuhuan was inexplicably shocked.
She felt… like she saw an unusual sense of focus in Huo Chengming’s eyes.
Focus that made Zhong Yuhuan feel at a loss of what to do.
Huo Chengming didn’t seem to expect that she would land her unobstructed gaze on him as she suddenly tugged down on the coat to stick out her head.
Huo Chengming’s expression quickly changed as he withdrew his gaze and returned to normal.
His changes weren’t significant, but Zhong Yuhuan had interacted with him for so long, so how could she not see them?
Huo Chengming’s change at that instant made Zhong Yuhuan feel that something was off.
What was he so anxious to hide?
Wen Yongchen’s voice broke Zhong Yuhuan’s train of thought.
Turned out that he also came over some time ago.
Wen Yongchen opened his mouth and said, “Li Jinyuan is correct. These people may open fire at civilians, but they probably won’t aim at the church.”
Zhong Yuhuan casually nodded. In fact, she didn’t pay attention to what Wen Yongchen said at all. Also, what Wen Yongchen said was the same as not saying anything at all; it was meaningless.
Wen Yongchen stopped his footsteps, slightly turned his head, and said, “Listen, the sounds outside seem further away.”
Zhong Yuhuan finally turned her attention to Wen Yongchen. Copying his actions, she turned her head to the side and listened to the sounds outside the church, “… Mhm, seems like they did leave.”
At this time, Li Jinyuan slightly bent over, coincidentally blocking Wen Yongchen, but this action didn’t seem deliberate.
He asked, “Huanhuan, want water?”
Zhong Yuhuan was a bit thirsty.
Ever since they came in here to hide, they had had nothing to eat or drink. When Li Jinyuan raised the idea, Zhong Yuhuan couldn’t help but lick her lips.
The three men’s gazes focused on it at once.
They unconsciously stared at her lips.
The lips that she just licked had a bit of a watery shine, like petals with dew in the morning: beautiful and attractive.
Wen Yongchen’s heartstrings were pulled.
Zhong Yuhuan sighed, “Where can we find water right now?”
Her voice immediately pulled Wen Yongchen from his panic. Wen Yongchen returned to his senses, his gaze unconsciously landing on Li Jinyuan and Huo Chengming. They were also looking at Zhong Yuhuan in a trance.
The color in Wen Yongchen’s eyes changed.
“Forget it.” Zhong Yuhuan said, licking her lips again, “I can still bear it.”
Huo Chengming slowly took back his gaze, turning to go outside. “The program staff’s car is parked outside the church and there’s bottled water in the trunk. I’ll go get them.”
Zhong Yuhuan hurriedly grabbed his arm. “You’ll do what?”
Huo Chengming glanced at Wen Yongchen, his brows slightly sinking as a bit of displeasure appeared. With a tone that couldn’t be more natural, he said, “You’re thirsty. I’ll go get water.”
Huo Chengming was indeed unhappy.
He coldly swept his gaze over Wen Yongchen, thinking: When would it be your turn to please Huanhuan? What do you even count as?
He would let Wen Yongchen know that Wen Yongchen can’t do anything he does.
Zhong Yuhuan was so angry that she couldn’t decide whether to cry or laugh. “None of us know the situation outside right now. Why would you go get water? I won’t die from being a bit thirsty.”
Li Jinyuan said, “I’ll go with Huo Chengming so that it would be safe.”
Zhong Yuhuan almost fainted from anger.
She angrily replied, “What could you do together? Block bullets for each other?
Huo Chengming also shook his head, saying to Li Jinyuan, “You stay here.”
Then, Huo Chengming seemingly glanced at Wen Yongchen.
Wen Yongchen felt his hair rise under that gaze, like an ice cube suddenly appearing in his mouth during a hot summer. But when he looked back carefully, Huo Chengming wasn’t looking at him anymore. It was as if that glance was merely a part of his imagination.
Li Jinyuan immediately abandoned his previous decision, nodded and said, “Okay, I’ll stay.”
Zhong Yuhuan: “???”
The two didn’t even listen to her.
Instead, Li Jinyuan and Huo Chengming seemed to have reached a tacit agreement in a matter of minutes.
What did they agree on?
Zhong Yuhuan turned to look at Wen Yongchen.
Agreed to go against Wen Yongchen?
