293 Looking at the Problem From Another Angle
After Chen Wei’er answered a few more questions from the children, the children all rushed home. They still had to return and feed the grass they had cut to the pigs and chickens. Some of them still had to cook.
Chen Wei’er looked at the children’s back, turned off the camera, and sighed worriedly.
“What’s wrong?” He Xun touched his wife’s hair. “Didn’t you already prepare for this before you came? Moreover, after you answered the children’s questions, they were obviously moved by your words. Take it slow, don’t be in a hurry.”
“But I still feel very uncomfortable,” Chen Wei’er felt pity as she answered.
He Xun held his wife’s hand and said, “Didn’t you come here personally to experience this discomfort? Weren’t you set on doing your best to give these children fair treatment? If you still want to do it, you must first not be affected by what is happening here.”
“Why?” Chen Wei’er was puzzled.
He Xun explained, “Even in the populated cities, women face more problems than men when it comes to normal social activities such as finding a job, let alone in a small mountain area. The inequality between men and women is even more serious here. Have you ever thought about the deeper reason behind it?”
“Because the people here are more backward in their thinking?” Chen Wei’er was stunned for a moment.
He Xun shook his head. “That’s part of the reason, but that’s not the main reason.”
“What is it?” Chen Wei’er tilted her head and asked her husband.
He Xun’s finger tapped Chen Wei’er’s nose. “The root cause is, of course, their lack of education.”
Chen Wei’er was unconvinced, “Isn’t that still backward thinking? What did I say wrong?”
“Because they are uneducated, they can only rely on their physical strength to make a living. Compared to boys, girls have no advantage in physical strength. So in this mountainous area where physical strength is the most important, everyone naturally wants to have a boy because boys are more capable of working. Boys represent productivity. If they were all educated and could work with their brains, then their idea of having boys would naturally change.” He Xun touched his wife’s small head again.
“What you said makes sense!” This angle was completely out of her expectations!
“So, what you need to do is to try your best to distribute educational resources to every child fairly.” He Xun held Chen Wei’er in his arms and gently stroked her long hair. “Isn’t this your main purpose in coming here? You don’t have to feel lost. You still have a lot of things to do.”
“You’re right. We’ll go to the village chief in a while and check if we can hold a speech.” Chen Wei’er regained her confidence.
The poverty and isolation of the mountain areas had led to children not being able to receive an education. This would only widen the gap between them and the outside world. It was a vicious circle. Chen Wei’er wanted to break this cycle.
“Let’s go back to the RV first. The sun is becoming prominent, and you didn’t put on sunblock.” He Xun raised his hand in front of his wife’s forehead to block her from the sun.
“It doesn’t matter.” Chen Wei’er didn’t mind.
He Xun found it funny. “If you want to get some sun, put on some sunblock. Otherwise, your skin might get burned.”
“Alright,” Chen Wei’er agreed and followed He Xun back to the RV. When it came to various issues, her husband was much more considerate and refined than she was. She had to admit this.
He Xun had prepared sunblock for outdoor activities because he had checked the UV coefficient within the mountain in advance.
“Sit properly.” He Xun guided Chen Wei’er down on the sofa, shook the sunblock in his hand, and applied it on his wife’s face bit by bit.
As her husband’s rough fingers slid across her delicate skin, Chen Wei’er felt ticklish. She couldn’t help but wiggle. In the end, He Xun’s fingers landed on his wife’s lips without her noticing.
‘So soft!’ He Xun’s eyes suddenly darkened, and he was no longer in the mood to apply the sunblock for her. His fingers stopped on her face and rubbed it back and forth.
“Wei’er.” He Xun’s voice was hoarse, and his eyes were dangerous. “Do you know how I persuaded my eldest brother?”
“You didn’t make a deal with your eldest brother, did you?” Chen Wei’er shook her head.
“We did make a deal.” He Xun slowly bent down. His face was getting closer and closer to Chen Wei’er.
“What deal?” Chen Wei’er swallowed. She felt that the atmosphere was a little off.
“I promise my eldest brother that I’ll stay in the mountains with you to recuperate. Then, the two of us will come back with an addition.” The tip of He Xun’s nose touched the tip of her nose, and their breaths met…
