In the next few days, Miao Dong and Zhou Feng didn’t speak. The two of them seemed to have fallen into a cold war. Neither of them was willing to admit defeat and be the first to speak.
Four days later, Li Chen suddenly came to Miao Dong. “Dong, school is on holiday tomorrow. Do you want to go home?”
Miao Dong was dozing off on the table. Since Zhou Feng left, she hadn’t slept as well as before every night. She was listless every day.
When she heard Li Chen’s words, she raised her head and looked at him. “Holiday? Why is it a holiday when I’ve only been here for more than a week? Moreover, tomorrow is Wednesday, not the weekend. Why should we take a holiday?”
Li Chen explained, “Our school has one break per month, and the break time is random. Moreover, in order to prevent us from interacting with students from other schools, the school usually chooses one of the days from Monday to Friday to take a break. You arrived at our school halfway, and the holiday of last month has already passed, just in time for this break. Do you have any plans?”
Miao Dong shook her head subconsciously and realized that she didn’t seem to have anywhere to go.
Did she have to go home? Liu Mei and Miao Liang hated her so much. They wished that she would stay in school for the rest of her life and not go home. She didn’t want to go back and quarrel with them.
Moreover, she didn’t want to see the hypocritical look on Miao Chu’s face. It was disgusting.
The bell rang, and Li Chen returned to his seat. Meanwhile, Miao Dong was still thinking about what to do tomorrow. Even when she had lunch with Li Chen, she was listless.
Li Chen really couldn’t get used to Miao Dong’s listless look. He couldn’t help but say, “Don’t you just not want to go home? Is it necessary to be worried all morning?”
Miao Dong looked at him in confusion. “How do you know I don’t want to go home?”
Li Chen raised his head proudly. “How many of those who came here are willing to go home? If you don’t want to go home tomorrow, you can follow me out. I’ll arrange your schedule.”
Miao Dong immediately became happy. “Alright! I’ll follow you then.”
But very quickly, Miao Dong became listless again. “But I don’t have much money left in my pocket, so let’s make arrangements accordingly.”
Li Chen patted his chest. “Don’t worry, leave it to me. I have plenty of money. I’ll treat you.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Ming suddenly appeared out of nowhere, holding a tray and sitting next to the two of them. “Where are you guys planning to go? Why don’t you take me with you? I’m also bored and have nothing to do at home, so I might as well go with you.”
“Sure!” Li Chen loved crowds the most. Since Shen Ming acknowledged Miao Dong as his boss, their relationship had gotten better and better.
Seeing that the two of them were in a heated discussion, Miao Dong couldn’t get a word in and started to look around bored while eating, only to see Zhou Feng sitting in the corner.
It was rare to meet him in the canteen. He usually left after class. Sometimes, he might climb over the wall to buy something to eat. He might only eat in the canteen for a day or two a week.
Miao Dong stopped feeling angry as she looked at his quiet demeanor. The two of them didn’t speak to each other for almost a week, and Miao Dong didn’t want to be mad anymore.
She was thinking in her heart, wondering what Zhou Feng would do tomorrow, whether he would go back home or not? She thought she could ask him during the afternoon class, as a way of giving him an opportunity to talk to her! Miao Dong comforted herself.
Then, in the afternoon class, she secretly wrote a note and quickly threw it on Zhou Feng’s desk.
Zhou Feng was already feeling drowsy, almost about to fall asleep, when he was awakened by the crumpled paper ball hitting him.
He sat upright with a jerk, not angry. He unfolded the note. “Are you going home tomorrow?”
Zhou Feng shook his head. He knew that Miao Dong was looking at him.
Zhou Feng was very sensitive to his surroundings. Even if someone was standing behind him, he could feel it. Hence, he knew that Miao Dong would peek at him during class.
However, he didn’t know how to get along with Miao Dong. Miao Dong seemed to be angry these two days, but he didn’t know why she was angry, which left him confused.
Miao Dong threw another ball of paper over. “Then what are your arrangements for tomorrow?”
Zhou Feng thought about it and sighed. He wrote, “I don’t know.”
His handwriting was very neat, written stroke by stroke with care. He must have practiced calligraphy, unlike Shen Ming whose handwriting looked like dog scribbles and could hardly be recognized.
Miao Dong wrote a third paper ball and threw it over. “Then come hang out with us tomorrow, okay?”
Zhou Feng was puzzled. “Who are ‘we’?”
Miao Dong replied, “It should be Shen Ming, Li Chen, and me.”
When Zhou Feng saw Shen Ming, he frowned and wrote, “No.”
