- Protect Nadia for me! - I yelled on top of my lungs and used shadow walk to get on the closest roof.
From there I started closing the distance between me and those damned mages.
My appearance grabbed their attention, and the next fireballs went my way. I dodged them easily, and shadow walked again, to the alley filled with orcs in robes. Among them stood the boss.
I ignored him and started cutting spellcasters one by one. With the corner of my eye, I caught a blur of grey, as he leaped towards me. At the last moment, I dodged with shadow walk. Giant cleaver embedded itself in the cobblestone, decimating few mages that happened to be on its way.
I never have imagined somebody this big could be able to move that fast, and yet there he was, before me, an embodiment of brutal force.
He charged towards me, completely ignoring his minions, knocking them down and pushing as he ran past them. Then he swung his cleaver again. I normally wouldn't be able to dodge it, but shadow walk again came in handy. This time though, I didn't go too far.
The blade plowed the air and again ended up deep in the cobblestone, cutting down two more mages on its way. Boss seemed to not care, so I tried as hard as I could to abuse this and also to lure him close to spellcasters, so he would finish them off for me.
He was incredibly fast, and I had to do my best to just not die, but the tactic overall was working. Soon the ranks of orcs were lowered by a few dozens. I did my best but just couldn't keep up with him. I needed to run away, and get somebody to help me. I needed an opening to strike.
Just as I was to shadow walk to the roof, his fist hit me and send me flying. I hit the wall like a rag doll, and bounced off, landing on the street, and rolling for a few meters. He grunted and came running after his pray, even before I managed to stop, but there was enough space between us for me to this time use shadow walk and get myself out.
I stumbled into the alley close by, and used the skill again, to get on the roof. He followed, so I was forced to keep jumping through the void and lure him to my friends. There was no way I was gonna kill that thing alone.
- Watch out! Watch out! - I kept yelling as I was closing the distance. - Watch out!
I couldn't even ascertain the situation the city center was in, as I was too busy running while looking over my shoulder. He was literally just behind me.
I finally landed, but I had to keep using shadow walk over and over, to dodge boss attacks. Blue came to help and landed on the orc's back. Then sunk his teeth in the muscular neck, but the boss just grabbed him and threw him to the ground, to immediately attack with the cleaver. I thought Blue was gonna die, but then fireball git the giant straight to the face. Midnight threw it.
Orc jumped to finish our novice fire mage, but Martin was close by, and he swung his morgenstern with all the power he got. The weapon connected just as boss landed, making him stumble. The blow was powerful, but only a few little holes were left by spikes in the giant body of that monster.
Nobuo rushed there, as cleaver immediately arched towards Martin. Midnight threw another bolt of fire to the boss's face, and that was enough for our giant to dodge. Then Nobuo delivered two clean strikes to the orc's legs. Those barely did any damage.
I used this time to get to the device and heal myself. I noticed that only a few red orcs remained, and our troops were doing just fine against them, thanks to the advantage of numbers.
Blue leaped at boss again, but got caught midair, and threw to the ground again.
I summoned my shadows to help distract the boss, as Nobuo kept dancing around the boss, delivering a cut after cut. Monster ignored Blue, and smacked our samurai, sending him flying.
Juan replaced him, stabbing with the spear, with a speed of a machine gun. Werewolf got up and jumped immediately at the orc's face, but was quickly pealed off. Still, he created a gigantic opening for others. Unfortunately, our attacks seemed to barely do anything to that monstrosity.
More of us joined the fray. Otis came flying, trying to jam his katana in the boss's neck, but that seemed impossible. Others kept swinging at the legs, Will among them. I used shadow walk, to shorten the distance. They really needed help.
Boss threw Blue to the ground yet again, and ignoring the rest, swung his cleaver. The white werewolf turned in last moment avoiding death, but his hand got chopped off with one hit. Orc repeated the attack again, to finish the job this time, but I shadow walked straight to his face and kicked him in the mouth with all my might. That was enough to make him stumble.
He then swung the cleaver wildly, to force us to get some distance. During that moment Will grabbed Blue, and threw him further away, so he could regrow his limb.
Suddenly boss shouted, and this shout shook the ground like a clap of thunder. For a second we all got frozen by fear, but not my shadows. They swarmed the boss, saving many lives at that moment while sacrificing themselves.
This little moment bought by them was enough for us to get back to our senses. We spread around, getting more distance between us and the boss. I noticed that other hunters managed to get rid of the remaining red orcs. There were few explosions, but further away, indicating that Amit was dealing with mages.
I kept summoning the shadows to keep the boss busy for a few more seconds as the rest of us assembled a ring around him.. That was the final showdown.
