The rest of the law enforcers were still in a daze. Ye Wei was the first to react and immediately ordered, “Everyone is to retreat 50 meters away!”

The two law enforcers who had not been exposed to the radiation immediately helped their two injured partners and retreated.

Ye Wei charged into the shelter to retrieve the camera and various other equipment.

If there really was strong radiation in the shelter, the equipment would be destroyed soon if they were exposed to the radiation.

It would be difficult to get her higher-ups to give her another set of equipment in this post-apocalyptic world where resources were scarce.

Wu Peng was rather in awe when he saw how hard Ye Wei worked. He handed her a few pieces of the equipment and immediately ran 50 meters away.

“Wu Peng, can you confirm that there is strong radiation inside?” Ye Wei stabilized her breathing and asked after they retreated a safe distance away.

Wu Peng was not too sure. However, the symptoms of the two law enforcers were identical to those of the people hit by radiation. “Do the law enforcers not have a radiation detection device? We’ll know after we get someone to send it over and test it out.”

Ye Wei did not want her men to take the risk. She immediately sent her two injured law enforcers back to the base and got someone to send over the detection device and professional anti-radiation gear.

“Wu Peng, you seem to be rather experienced with how a person would react after being exposed to radiation?” Ye Wei tried to dig out information from Wu Peng when she saw that her men had returned to the base and that there was no one around.

Wu Peng thought to himself, “General Hua sure is cautious and is finding an opportunity to test me.”

“I was very interested in the subject of the end of the world in the past and had read many post-apocalyptic novels. Those stories had talked about the reactions people had after they got exposed to radiation,” Wu Peng explained.

“You’re a doomsday enthusiast?” Ye Wei did not believe Wu Peng’s nonsense. She moved her almond-shaped eyes around and asked, “I heard that you have been living in the shelter that you built yourself?”

“That’s right. After all, I am no elite. I don’t have the right to stay in an official shelter.” Wu Peng did not mean anything else. He regarded himself as an average man and could not compare himself to scientists and academics.

However, Ye Wei felt a little infuriated when she heard that. If Wu Peng was not worthy of staying in an official shelter, wouldn’t she be less worthy?

“We’ve known each other for a long time but I have never been to your shelter. When are you going to invite me to visit?” Ye Wei really wanted to see his shelter. She wanted to know what kind of shelter Wu Peng could build with his abilities.

She had thought that Wu Peng would accede to her request with a naughty smile. She did not expect him to start muttering and try to change the topic.

This made Ye Wei feel a little frustrated and deepened her suspicion of him. Could Wu Peng’s shelter be a place that could not see the light of day?

Wu Peng had his own problems to consider, with Elsa now living in his shelter.

Wu Peng would have been happy to approve Ye Wei’s request to tour his shelter if it had been before Elsa moved in.

This was equivalent to a girl requesting to play at his home. It was basically a date.

However, if Ye Wei saw Elsa, Ye Wei might not believe his story that Elsa is his sister.

With how proud Ye Wei was, she would definitely keep her distance from Wu Peng forever.

After he saw that Ye Wei had an unpleasant expression on her face, Wu Peng scratched the back of his ear anxiously. He tried his best to find the perfect excuse when the sirens of a faraway car saved him.

The law enforcer reinforcements had arrived. Six law enforcers were sent over each wore heavy-duty anti-radiation gear and had brought along a radiation detector.

Ye Wei took out anti-radiation gear from within the car and started to put it on.

Wu Peng quickly shifted over, “Captain Ye, I also want to head in to have a look. Can I borrow a set of anti-radiation gear?”

“This is the matter of the law enforcers. The public need not head in and put themselves at risk,” Ye Wei said casually, but any fool could hear the anger in her voice.

Wu Peng felt frustrated when she saw Ye Wei’s back.

A woman’s heart was incomprehensible, it changed too quickly.

By the side, two law enforcers saw that their captain was not in a good mood and gave Wu Peng a few hand gestures as a signal to not offend Ye Wei any further.

“You guys dare to come here and see me become a joke? Take off your anti-radiation gear.” Without saying another word, Wu Peng immediately charged forward to a law enforcer and pulled off his anti-radiation gear.

The anti-radiation gear was much more important than the average protective gear. His face was basically hidden behind the gear, only exposing his eyes. As long as he did not speak, Ye Wei would not be able to know who he was.

Just like that, Wu Peng righteously followed behind the team.

Wu Peng handed his M1911 to the law enforcer that he pulled the anti-radiation gear off from as compensation.

The production of this gun had stopped a long time ago and had a high collector’s value. The law enforcer felt immensely blessed.

The group came to the door of the shelter and heard the radiation detector crackle.

“Captain! The radiation index has reached 80! It’s strong radiation!” the law enforcer at the front of the group shouted.

“Can you detect what kind of radioactive substance it is?” Ye Wei asked.

“It can’t detect it for the time being. We have to get closer to the source of the radiation!” the first law enforcer said.

“Listen to my orders! Three of you stay outside to keep guard. The other two, follow me into the shelter!” Ye Wei dug her head into the shelter after she issued the order.

Wu Peng quickly followed behind her.

He saw the corpses on the ground when he entered the shelter again and walked straight into the shelter.

The radiation detector in his hand started to beep louder and more frequently.

He glanced at the number on the detector, its value had reached 130.

An ordinary person would suffer radiation damage when the radiation index was 5 or more.

Wu Peng walked around the shelter and did not notice anything special.

Ye Wei also examined the shelter closely but did not find anything.

“Captain! I found surveillance equipment.” The law enforcer who followed them in had a new finding.

The three of them quickly came to the surveillance equipment. They would be able to know what happened if they could obtain the surveillance record.

Unfortunately, the equipment had been destroyed, and nothing was left behind.

Ye Wei took out a magnifying glass to see if there were any fingerprints but found that any fingerprints had been wiped off clean.

“The culprit has very strong anti-investigation skills. This murder must have been planned a long time ago. We cannot eliminate the possibility of murder of passion. The radiation here is ridiculously powerful. Continue searching for the source of the radiation!” Ye Wei ordered.

The three of them continued their deep search within the shelter.

Wu Peng held up the radiation detector and paced around the shelter as he paid close attention to the changes in the radiation index.

He noticed that the radiation index would increase when he got near a wall.

He leaned closer to the wall and searched the area closely, and finally locked on a corner of the wall.

He gently tapped on the wall twice and realized that it sounded hollow. He confirmed that it must be empty inside.

Wu Peng took a deep breath, raised his arm, and smashed onto the wall with his elbow. He caused a crack to appear on the wall and continued to make the crack bigger until he saw a small hidden compartment within the wall.

There was a damaged glass tube in the hidden compartment with a silvery-white powder in the tube.

He had a rough guess of what the substance was.

He did not dare to touch it directly, instead, Wu Peng placed the radiation detector beside the powder.
