Chapter 22 - Rendezvous

“I’ve seen how powerful Crowe is, I know what he can do but zombies are dangerous too,” Marina sighed.

When she saw how Crowe killed a few zombies, she realized how powerful Crowe was. She knew that Crowe must have been surviving in this chaotic situation alone for a long time. However, although she was aware of Crowe’s ability, she couldn’t help but worry.

Everyone who had experienced the horror of the zombies would feel the same. Even if Crowe was bitten by zombies, he would be no exception and would end up like those people who transformed into ravenous monsters.

“Now, we can only stay in the car and wait for Crowe’s update.” Although Joan was very young, she was beyond the influence of peer pressure. She didn’t show her feelings, but in her heart, she was also a little worried because Crowe hadn’t sent her any messages or updates for so long.

They had only met each other for a short time, which was lesser than a day. However, both Joan and Marina were quite affected by Crowe’s wellbeing. Suddenly, the screen of the phone that Joan was holding suddenly lit up. Both Joan and Marina immediately looked at the phone screen. On the screen was the message that Crowe had sent to them.

“I’ve killed all the zombies on the first and third floors. Bring some food and water with you. There was more than one survivor, there’s also another girl.

“Be careful. Although I’ve killed all the zombies on the third floor, I haven’t cleared the fourth and the upper floors yet. Don’t make too much noise when you come up.”

Of course, Crowe wasn’t afraid of those zombies coming down from the fourth floor but if Joan and the others attracted the zombies and Crowe didn’t get there in time, they would be the ones in big trouble as Crowe kindly reminded them. After they saw the previous message, Joan and Marina heaved a sigh of relief. For Crowe to send them such a simple and collected message, it was enough to prove that his life was not in danger and that he was safe and sound.

The last sentence made Joan and Marina frown slightly. This kind of patronizing instruction made it sound as if they didn’t know what was supposed to be done in a situation like this. They believed that if they didn’t know what to do, they wouldn’t be able to survive the apocalypse up till today. So they started planning to go join Crowe, then they would follow the rescue plan for the survivors that Crowe told them about.

“He didn’t even need to instruct us that much,” Joan mumbled.

Even without Crowe’s reminder, Joan already knew what she had to do just by looking at the first message that he sent.

“It’s true. Although Crowe knows what he’s doing, but don’t treat us like children,” Marina pushed her glasses and said with dissatisfaction. She understood Crowe’s concerns, as Joan was still a student. However, Marina was already a well-established adult and in her mind, she knew her limits as to what she could or couldn’t do.

“…” Silence filled up the entire vehicle.

Sean, who was in the last row, tightened his backpack that he had been holding tightly in his arms. Crowe had left an emotional scar on him, and he couldn’t move on from that yet.

“Since Crowe has given us the instruction, let’s go up now. According to what we just heard, there are other survivors upstairs.” Marina tidied up her equipment and threw the backpack on her back.

When Crowe drove the armored vehicle toward the female dormitory building, all of them had already started organizing their available resources. It didn’t take much time for them to now finish packing up and head to the rescue mission. While Marina was about to swing on her backpack, Joan was also prepared at the same time.

“Here we go.” They said.

Joan was about to open the car door and leave the armored vehicle when she looked at Sean through the rearview mirror. Suddenly, she was stunned.

“Sean, what are you doing? Why aren’t you moving?”

Joan saw that Sean was still holding his bag. He didn’t carry it on his back like everyone else. Instead, he curled up on the back of the car and wouldn’t move.

“I…” Sean faintly whimpered. After a moment of silence, he reluctantly moved. He really did not want to see Crowe.

The three of them got out of the car. They were also cautious as they went upstairs, especially Sean, as Joan had already given him a stern warning. Joan and Marina still remembered what had happened before. If they weren’t lucky, they would have been killed by Sean because of his accidental sneeze. For that reason, the relationship between them, which was not tightly bonded, to begin with, became a little stiff. Even Joan didn’t have a good attitude toward Sean either.

While they entered the dormitory building, they saw many zombie bodies that blocked the corridor. There was also a foul smell, which was even more pungent and piercing than the garbage collection station. They covered their mouths and noses with their sleeves to avoid the pungent smell.

The three of them had vomited once due to the sight and the smell of zombies that had been crushed into minced meat by the armored vehicle. This time, the smell was vomit-inducing and reminded them of that incident. However, they forcefully restrained themselves and pushed through.

They paid attention to the sound of their footsteps and it took the three of them nearly five minutes to arrive at the third floor from the first floor.

Then, they found Room 315. Crowe had checked through the third floor. Other than Room 315, all the other rooms were wide open. Crowe had done it before the others arrived at the building. Joan gently knocked on the door. Then, the door was opened by a person inside.

“Come in.” He said.

The person who opened the door was Crowe. Sandra and Eileen had finished eating their chocolate and Crowe allowed the girls to rest on bed while they waited for the others. After all three of them came in, Sean carefully closed the door and sat down.

“I cleaned the third floor. There should be no zombies left, but there’s a possibility that the zombies upstairs would come down. Sean, you stay here and keep watch.”, “Will that be alright with you?” Crowe asked as he looked at Sean, who was deliberately avoiding him.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the previous incident, Crowe wouldn’t have had a bad impression on Sean. However, the reckless action of Sean sneezing in the cafe had caused Crowe to feel wary of him. Apart from that, Crowe only asked this because he didn’t want Sean to be put in harm’s way.

Crowe’s request was reasonable because he also factored in the possibility that zombies might suddenly come down to this floor. Although Crowe had asked Sean to join this rescue mission, Crowe understood that Sean was also a young man that might have evil intentions toward the two weak and beautiful ladies. It was only appropriate for him to rest in the outer room, which was separated from the inner room where Sandra and Eileen were. Although it was an apocalyptic event, Crowe had to still handle things with care.

“Okay, okay.” Sean quickly nodded.

He didn’t dare to protest against Crowe’s words, and he didn’t want to talk much to Crowe as Sean was terrified of him.

“Well, you can rest here,” Crowe assured Sean.

Then, Crowe looked at Joan and Marina and said “Come on, let’s go visit the bedroom. The two survivors are inside..”
