Chapter 124：Weird

"Oh, dude," Isobel exclaimed when Shannara went beside her. "You scare me," she added and everyone knew what Isobel meant. She was scared of how good of a fighter Shannara was.

"Let's go," Dannie said and everyone looked at her. "Before there are any more zombies following us. We have to go," she added and she pointed at the zombies that were walking slowly towards them.

"Let's make a new plan just like what Shannara had said," Veon suggested and everyone nodded.

"Do we have any grenades for later," Shannara asked and Tyler nodded, answering her.

"We do." He showed her his pouch that contained four grenades.

They heard that the gate was already being destroyed by the zombies. The group formed their circle in order for them to come up with a plan. They also looked at their surroundings to see the situation clearly.

The house was already messy. Obviously, due to the zombie apocalypse. There were also a lot of blood stains present on the floor. There was even one corpse of a woman, already in the process of decay. It emitted a rancid smell, making Isobel almost vomit.

Veon stood up and he checked the house carefully. There were even two corpses of children present on the floor. They were even holding hands. He immediately felt pity. They were too young to experience such a predicament. Because of this unfortunate event, they weren't able to live their lives to the fullest.

Isobel approached Veon. "I don't get it," she said and everyone looked at her. "If there are a lot of zombies now, why didn't the three become zombies?" When she said this, everyone now grew curious.

She's right. Why are corpses present and why didn't they turn into zombies? They're just here. What really happened in this place?

Tyler went near the corpses of the children and examined its body. He noticed that there is a deep mark on its body.

"He was stabbed." When Tyler said this, Dannie approached him to take a look.

"Weird," she commented as she pointed at the neck of one child. "The person had a bite mark yet it didn't turn into a zombie," she added and Isobel immediately looked at the dead child's body.

"True. A bite mark is present… yet it didn't turn into a zombie," Isobel said as she touched the bite mark lightly. "It was a bite done by a human. It was lighter than a zombie's bite," she added and Shannara wondered.

"Isn't it that a person becomes a zombie because of a bite? Then what about this case?"

Veon approached Tyler and he examined the corpse of the child as well.

"A zombie's bite is deeper than a human's bite. But looking at this one, I'm not quite sure," Isobel said and everyone looked at her.

"Are you saying that the child was bitten by a human," Veon asked and Isobel nodded. "Who would do such a thing," he added and the others could not answer. They do not have the definite answer as to why the person did so.

They were suddenly shocked when they heard a sound coming from the kitchen. They all turned back and they were surprised when they saw an old man, holding Dannie captive in his arms. He took the chance to take her away since they were distracted and since she was the only person closest to the man.
