Chapter 150:Falling Down

Shannara walked towards the apartment's main door and held the doorknob. She attempted to open the door but nothing happened. It was locked from the inside. She knew that the kidnapper had obviously locked the apartment, but she still attempted to open the door anyway.

She took steps backward and decided to examine her surroundings once more.

"Maybe Sheloah's in the living room? Maybe she got tied down to a chair and had no means of escape. Hmm… does this have a basement?"

Shannara was talking to herself when she wondered about where Sheloah might be. She walked to the other side of the apartment and knelt down. She saw a small window, broke it with a stone, and attempted to enter. Her body could not fit so she gave up. She huffed and puffed her cheeks out of frustration.

She took a peek once more and decided to make her voice loud. "Sheloah?" But there was no reply. She took her phone from her pocket, turned on the flashlight, then looked inside. There was no one there, and only old furniture were found inside.

She stood up and decided to look at the main windows but she was once again disappointed when she saw that most of them were covered in wood, blocking the view from the inside and the outside. She touched the wood and noticed that it was too sturdy for her to destroy. What more, she did not have any appropriate tools to destroy it! If she did destroy the wood physically, though, she might attract zombies, making it risky for her.

She stood in the middle of the place, looking for another alternative to look for Sheloah. She noticed that there was one window in the second floor that was not blocked with wood so maybe she could look for clues from that location.

"How can I climb up?" The moment she whispered this to herself, she saw a large tree that she could climb but fear took toll on her body.

She was afraid of heights!

Shannara sighed and furrowed her brows in worry. "Now what am I going to do?" She walked towards the tree and touched its trunk. "If I try to climb, I may fall right away!"

She always wanted to overcome her fear of being in high places but every time she tried, it would all end in vain. She would always get someone to help her down. What she feared the most is falling down.

When Shannara had thought of the latter part, she rolled her eyes on herself and scoffed. She was just thinking about fears and it suddenly became a thought about love.

Shannara looked at the tree and at the window once more and sighed. "I have to climb up… I have to," she said to herself then she started climbing up the tree.

She took each step carefully as she climbed up the tree. She tried her best not to look down so as to not trigger her fear. Once she reached the top, she tightly embraced the trunk of the tree and proceeded to look at the open window, shouting Sheloah's name.

"Sheloah, it's me, Shannara!"
