85 Finding Out The Truth 4

Mr Brandon pushed the door open and walked into his room, then locked it.

"Hmm another uneventful day. I wonder when King Bayard would give his verdict and the money would be returned" he said to himself.

He walked over to his wardrobe, taking off his robe and shirt, and hung them on wooden frame attached to the side of his wardrobe.

He opened the wardrobe a bit and took out a clean shirt then pushed it half closed and wore his shirt over his head.

He moved to his candle stand and blew the light off, and climbed into bed.

From where she hid, she watched his every move carefully, waiting, hoping he would soon drift off to sleep, then she can make her escape.

At midnight, she was sure he was sound asleep from the snoring sound he made. As soon as she pushed the wardrobe door open a little, a click sound was heard.

She stopped and didn't move an inch, she listened carefully, then heard the window open. A figure entered into the room, she peered from the small opening in the wardrobe and saw a man dressed in all black standing at the foot of the bed.

The gaze in his eyes were cold and burning, like it cold pierce through one's skin, boring a hole in the process. He had a domineering aura round him, sending fear to those around him. She shivered a little at his intense gaze, unconsciously holding her breathe.

He reached his hand and roughly grabbed Mr Brandon's feet. Petrified, he sat up fast and withdrew towards his headboard.

His eyes widened in shock at the sight of the one person he wished not to see. "You! What are you doing here? What do you want from me?"

It's funny what you say." His voice came out deep and cold, "What do I want from you? Well I would let you know, say the truth. Tell everyone the truth and have him released, then all the money returned to him."

Mr Brandon laughed sarcastically, "hahha hahhaa... I should do what!? You seem to be forgetting something, there's nothing to tell and the money belongs to us not him" he retorted, his fear seemed to have been thrown out the window suddenly.

"Really? Is that what you think? You didn't think so when you hired me to get the money for you, but now the money belongs to us" he chuckled at the situation.

"Well that's not your business. If there's anything, I should report to the soldiers that you are the thief" he threatened.

He wore a black cloth over his nose and mouth, only his eyes were visible, he furrowed his brows at Mr Brandon. "You seem so confident. You forget you hired me to steal all the money from your friends, because you coveted their share. You are such a greedy man. I wonder what your family would say, better still, the Prince."

"If I am correct, he must be scared of being implicated. He cannot go to the authorities, I should use this to my advantage" Mr Brandon thought.

"I was wondering why I heard about the money theft but never saw any money. It turned out you've been giving it to him. I wonder, did he pay you or promise you half of the wealth for you to betray me."

"None of your business. I do my business based on what's right. Did you think I didn't know what you and your friend's did? It was only right I returned the money to him."

"Well, unluckily for you, the Prince intervened and caught him. If you want him out, then you save him. After all, you got him there in the first place with your stupid ideology. You should just... "

Slam!!

The thief grabbed his neck and pushed him hard, slamming his body into the headboard. He pressed hard, almost choking him, then looked deep into his eyes.

"You should watch your mouth you filthy dog. I am giving you one last chance, go to the authorities and confess your crime. Don't forget, I have an evidence. I give you one day to come clean."

He let go of his neck, and dashed out of the room through the window. Mr Brandon fell on his bed, coughing, his hand reached up to his neck as he gasped for breathe. His eyes were red and watery, he had almost died just now.

After some minutes, he slowly sat up and hit his fist into the headboard behind him. "Damn you. I completely forgot, the signed contract" he said through gritted teeth.

"I would have to negotiate with him somehow. There's no one who can't be bought, not even him and his way. Perhaps i didn't offer him a good price. I can't let this come out, I need to cover this up."
