199 Heir To Alacia

CHAPTER 199

"Hmm, I understand. I went through your recent memories just now. What do you want to know?" he asked her and moved some distance back.

"The truth about the war. What really transpired and how to end it?"

"Till now no one really knows the truth about the war. The elves blame the mages for killing their prince and are at war, but now the war had taken another turn in search of you.," he replied her, his face suddenly became serious.

"If even you do not know, then who would?"

Astrid's face fell, here she was having hope and all, but then her father doesn't even know as well. No one knew except the real conspirators.

'If no one knows, what about the story Aunt Nerissa told me about when I was young? Shouldn't it at least be true, considering the other parts of the story, my heritage was?" she thought to herself.

"Umm, father." Her black eyes were filled with uncertainty as she lifted her eyes to look at him.

He smiled back at her, his serious face changed to a warm when she called him.

"Yes, daughter?" His smile widened with each passing second, making her heart flutter from being smiled at by a god-like being.

"Why are you smiling so much?" Astrid couldn't help to ask.

She loved his smile, every child would, and every girl would swoon at it, but he wore a serious face just now. How come he changed instantly?

That was the thought that filled her mind as she looked him in the eyes.

"I like the feel of being called father. It was unfortunate that I didn't live long to witness it and I am only witnessing it after my death," he explained.

He turned his back on her briefly, pushing the sad feeling away. After some seconds of utmost silence, he turned around to face her.

"Anyway, back to the matter at hand. You wanted to ask me something?" He asked, wearing his serious expression back on.

"Yes. You see, when I was young, Aunt Nerissa told me a story and she said it was the human king that caused the war. Back then I thought it was just one of my fairytale stories, but what if it was true?"

"That I am not certain. The merfolks stayed out of the war for years and distanced ourselves from the surface world. So I cannot say if it was a folktale or a true story."

"Ohh, if only we can see the past," she said thoughtfully.

"You can."

"Eh! How? Is that even possible?"

"Yes. For you to end it, you would have to see the past and as my daughter, who better than you to do it."

"I do not understand, father. I am lost."

"This the reason you were sent to me. I cannot see the past now that I am dead, but you can. Part of my powers as the mer prince was the ability to see what has happened."

"Really?" Her eyes widened as she titled her head back, she couldn't believe her ears.

Upon hearing his last sentence, Astrid took a step back.

'New heir! Alacia? To the kingdom that seeks after my life? Nope, I will pass.' She mentally said to herself.

There was no way she was going to rule that kingdom.

"What is it?"

"Father, you do not understand. Everyone came to fight my kingdom, because of me. I cannot rule there."

"Forget about ruling there for now, besides you have two more kingdoms you are heir to."

"True."

"You see, the power to see the future and past is only attainable to the heirs of the throne of Alacia. And as my daughter, you definitely would have inherited my powers. Quick, let me see your control over water."

Astrid took some steps back and in a few seconds, she had condensed water, of the size of a bowl from the air around and twirled with it in between her hands.

She raised her head to look at her father expectantly. Rather than having a proud smile on his face, he smiled weakly at her and moved in close.

"Hmm, this is not water created from your mermaid powers. I mean water is water, but if it was created from you mermaid powers, then it would have been mightier than this."

"Seriously?"

"Yes. This is water created from your fairy powers. Where did you think controlling the elements came from? You are an elemental fairy. Be happy, there are only a few elemental fairies. They mostly come from the royal family, but years ago, a few elemental fairies were born."

"Oh, was mother one of them?"

"No, that was your grandmother, Leia, the fairy queen."

"Alright, so how do I use my powers to see the past?"

"That is the problem. Your powers haven't been awoken to their true extent. This is because she sealed your features and anything relating to your powers when she sent you away."

"Who? Mother or Aunt Nerissa?"

"Isadora of course. This Nerissa wouldn't have been able to do that. I think she could only strengthen the seal as you grew older, but as you grew up, so did your powers thereby weakening the seal."

"I see."

"Your mermaid powers haven't been awakened yet. It hasn't been tapped into by you, yet. Only when the seal is removed or you successfully break it, then can your true self be released. And your features, heightened. I wonder which eyes you took, Isadora's or mine?"

"Actually, I took both. They are two colours, one blue and the other, orange sapphire. For now, it changes when I use my powers and reverts back."

"Haha ha…" he let out a soft yet wonderful laugh, "Aren't you a chip of the old block!"

"I guess I am, father. I want everything from both of you."

"And you got more. That only means one thing," he said, suddenly becoming serious once more.

"What is that?" Astrid asked, her face mirroring his.

"You need to find your mother, so she can remove the seal, only then can you tap into your powers."

"Is there no other way?"
