Jack frowned and asked, "So, what's your point?"
"My point is, if I had gone after the woman as per what the fortune teller wanted me to, I'd have missed out on meeting K, the love of my life. That's why you should wait."
"How do you know that he's the love of your life? I love Ms. Lily! She's the love of my life!"
DX thought about it seriously before answering his son,
"You'd know that you love her when her safety is more important to you than your own safety and you just want to envelop her in your embrace to protect her from everything..."
"...You'd know that you love her when the thought of seeing her, or just the thought of her itself makes your day brighter..."
"She would constantly be in your mind... when you go to bed and when you are awake....When she's upset, you'd feel worse and when she's happy, you'd feel happy as well...."
"And you know that you love her when you are willing to do silly and stupid things that you've never done before with others... "
Jack gasped, "That sounds like a lot of work!"
Thinking about the cryptic message earlier, DX continued.
However this time, his voice was tinted with a hint of uncertainty,
"It's when you know that she is lying to you...and yet you are still be unable to confront her because you are afraid of the answer."
Jack heard the change of tone in his father's voice and he asked worriedly, "Are you alright, Dad? Is everything going well with K?"
DX smiled. Jack who was the most vocal about his rejection of Kai Xin was actually worried about his relationship with 'K'.
Patting his son's head lightly, DX said, "I'm fine...If you are clear about your feelings for Ms. Lily now, then eat your dinner and go to bed. Otherwise you are going to be grumpy again tomorrow."
Jack nodded, "Love sounds like too much work. I'll see if I want to do that for her next week."
DX ordered the maids to bring a fresh batch of pancakes for Jack.
While they were waiting, Jack yawned before asking, "Dad...Lyle. He has been having a hard time at school lately."
"I know. He told me. K and I are trying to solve this. How about you?"
Jack shook his head, "I'm fine. No one dares to pick on me because they are afraid of Lyle. However, he still doesn't like it when they talked behind our backs."
DX nodded, "Take care of your older brother. I believe in the two of you."
"Dad..." murmured Jack as he glanced at his toes, "About Lyle's 'Mummy', where is she? Can I see her?"
"Do you want to?"
"Not really. I don't know her..."
He looked at his father and sighed,
"Lyle used to talk about her but lately he stopped. I'm worried about him. If you know his Mummy, can you tell her to visit him? I won't stop her from doing so."
DX smiled, "Maybe if the two of you combined your birthday wishes, then it might come true."
Jack frowned, "Dad, I'm 10 and I'm turning 11 soon. Don't treat me like a baby!"
"I don't know, Jack. There might be magic powder floating around on your birthday. After all, it's Halloween themed. Who knows what kind of magical creatures would come out?"
He raised a brow at his father.
DX laughed when he saw that. He had always thought that Jack had zero resemblance to him.
However, when he saw Jack with his brow raised, he saw a reflection of himself in his son.
"Stop laughing, Dad!"
By the time the food was served, Jack was already up way past his bedtime.
He could barely stay awake long enough to eat. If DX did not catch him in time, he would have slept in his pillow of fluffy pancake.
DX told the maids to bring some snacks up and leave it in the twins room.
"Just prepare it in case Jack wakes up in the middle of the night," whispered DX as he carried his sleeping son up in his arms.
The maids bowed and replied in a hushed tone, "Yes, Master XiAn."
...
DX slowly lowered Jack onto the bed and adjusted Quinn's uncomfortable sleeping position.
The moment he adjusted her to a proper sleeping position, she sighed blissfully and hugged Lyle while one of her legs landed on Jack's thigh.
"How cute…" thought DX as he covered them with the comforter.
He took a photo of them and just as he was about to send to Kai Xin, he hesitated.
It shocked him to realize that he actually hesitated to do something as simple as this. It was just a photo of the children. He had sent things that were less innocent.
"Why am I hesitating…" thought DX as he finally pressed the 'send' button.
Glancing at his reflection on the mirror, DX wondered if things would change between them because of this.
A moment later, when he was out of the shower, he found out that he had received a message from Kai Xin.
[ Argh!!! They are too adorable!!! Can I take one home with me? BTW, how do I look in this?]
Attached to the photo was a photo of her wearing a silk bathrobe with his initials on it.
However, what made him happy was that he recognized the background to be that of her bedroom.
[ Great, but I prefer you in your birthday suit. When did you take that? ]
[ During our last tryst. I forced Manager Han to deliver it to me without you knowing. I mean, I like the smell of you on it. Do you want it back? If so, I can send it back but I will be really REALLY sad. ]
DX chuckled as he read her message. He quickly sent her a reply.
[ You can keep it. I'll just wear yours next time. Sleep earlier. Tomorrow is a workday.]
[ How can you tell me to sleep earlier while leaving me an image of you in MY bathrobe? Damn it, DX! I have to take another shower now! I'll see you at the office tomorrow.]
DX blushed as he placed the phone back on the table. Chuckling, he knew what 'take another shower' means.
Glancing down at the reaction of his own body, he thought, "Maybe I should take another shower as well..."
