Chapter 262 - She's my daughter

Once DX hung up the call with his mother, he made his way to Kai Xin's apartment. He was sure that his mother would not try to do anything to Kai Xin. She might hate her but for the sake of her grandchild, she would not take anything drastic towards her.

When Kai An opened the door to let him in, he was surprised to see Sima Erden sitting on the couch when he walked into the house.

He felt as if he had seen the person before but he could not remember where or when. Since his purpose today was about something else, he did not bother to think too deeply about the matter.

After greeting An Qi Yan, he asked for pain relief pills and a cup of water.

As she was getting the stuff, Kai An asked, "Are you alright?"

"Just a little bit of headache..." answered DX before he placed the two pills into his mouth and drank the cup of warm water from An Qi Yan.

"Ms. An, can we talk privately?" asked DX as he glanced suspiciously at Sima Erden. He did not want to take the risk that the stranger might be a danger to Kai Xin.

Kai An who was sitting on the floor with his back facing the TV looked at DX before turning to An Qi Yan who was sitting next to Sima Erden. He could tell that his future brother-in-law was a little apprehensive.

"Erden is trustworthy. We told him about Kai Xin's pregnancy earlier," reassured An Qi Yan. She understood DX's concern but she would trust Sima Erden with everything she got.

"Alright then..." said DX before he sat down on the single seater sofa that was facing the other three.

After he swallowed the pill and the cup of water, he began, "Kai Xin's mental health is not exactly at the best place at the moment. She's worried about a lot of things and I don't blame her for it...If this goes on, I'm afraid that she might unknowingly hurt herself and the baby...Just today, she skipped lunch because she was afraid that someone might poison the baby."

An Qi Yan gasped and held Sima Erden's hand before asking DX, "That's just in drama, right? No one would do that to my baby and my grandbaby!"

"Unfortunately, it happens quite often among the upper society. Which is why I would like to invite you and Kai An to move in with us as soon as possible," said DX as he thought about what had happened to his unborn brother.

If there was someone to protect his mother back then...If his father had shown more concern for her well-being, then he would have an older brother to share the burden with.

Kai An exchanged glances with his mother before looking back at DX and said, "I don't mind it...It won't affect my life anyway...I just need to pack my clothes and I'm good to go."

DX nodded and looked at Kai An as he said appreciatively, "Everything would be provided for the two of you. Don't worry about clothes. If you need anything, just tell the staff to get it for you."

He then turned to An Qi Yan to continue their earlier conversation.

"I think with you as the cook, Kai Xin would feel better...If it's not for what happened last night, I'd have let her return home and live life as usual...But at the moment, there are too many people targetting her and I feel safer having her in the mansion."

"She's my daughter. Obviously, I don't mind moving...But Erden, he can still visit us, right? He doesn't have anyone else left in this world..." asked An Qi Yan worriedly.

Since Sima Erden had decided to stay for her, she felt responsible for him. She did not want to leave him alone.

DX glanced at the blind man. He could tell from their actions that this man was courting his future mother-in-law and he was not sure if he should be happy about it.

Somehow, as her future son-in-law, he felt that he had to pretend to be somewhat upset by it.

So, in a curt manner, he looked at Sima Erden as he growled, "You are welcome at the Du Mansion as long as you behave yourself and don't do anything inappropriate to Ms. An..."

When Kai An heard it, he burst out in laughter and rolled around the floor.

"Ah! This is killing me! Mum! Your future son-in-law cares a lot about your virtue!"

An Qi Yan blushed and throw a pillow at her son before snarling at him, "You stupid boy! See if I'll kill you later!"

However, her threat did not work as Kai An continued to laugh. Even Sima Erden was unable to hold himself back as he tried to cover his soft laughter with a fake cough.

"Not you too!" groaned An Qi Yan as her face turned even redder than before. Embarrassed, she slapped Sima Erden on the shoulder before running back to her room.

The man who said those words smiled at the turn of events before saying to Kai An, "I'll send you the address later. It would be great if you can move in as soon as possible. I'll notify the staff of your arrival."

Since he had to go back to the hospital, DX did not stay for long. When he arrived, he saw that Han Ye was sleeping at the couch outside Song Qiao's ward while the latter was brushing her hair. There was two large fruit baskets on the stand next to her bed.

DX frowned when he saw the drool at the corner of Han Ye's mouth that was dripping onto a small puddle on the floor. He gave the couch a light kick before calling out, "Han Ye..."

When he heard his boss' voice, Han Ye immediately jumped up, "Yes, Boss!"

DX pointed to the side of his mouth and Han Ye lifted his hand to touch his mouth before frowning at his saliva-stained fingers. When he saw the small puddle of drool on the floor, he felt a little embarrassed by it.

As he wiped the drool off his mouth, he apologized profusely, "I'm sorry, President Du! It won't happen again."

DX waved his hand dismissively as he said, "You are tired. Go home and sleep. I'll take over now. Call a cab. I want you alive for tomorrow."

Han Ye nodded before he packed all his stuff. After he left, DX knocked on the door before he entered the room.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" asked DX as he walked towards her bed. When he was standing next to her bed, he frowned, "You look a little pale..."

"It hurts but not unbearable," answered Song Qiao with a smile. She threw away the painkillers that the nurse gave her earlier so that she could appear weaker to him.

Unlike the smile she showed Han Ye, she was sincere when it came to DX. When the clock turned 8 p.m. earlier, she thought that DX would not come and she was feeling down because of it.

So, when she saw him walking into her ward, she lighted up with happiness.

"Did you take any painkillers? Let me call the doctor," said DX before he turned to go out.

However, Song Qiao grabbed his sleeve before crying out in pain. When DX turned back to look at her, she grabbed onto her cast as she groaned, "My leg..."

"What's wrong? Let me call the doctor!"

When he was closed enough, Song Qiao hugged him and with a pained voice, she said softly, "No! I'm fine! Just stay here with me! As long as you are here, I'd bear all the pain...Please don't leave me alone..."

DX sighed and nodded. When she released him, he reached over to adjust her pillows before asking, "Are you feeling comfortable now?"

Song Qiao blushed and nodded. When she saw DX smiling at her, her heart raced wildly. DX rarely smiled and she savored each and every moment of it.

He pulled a chair from the corner and sat down next to her, "Qiao Qiao...Can we talk?"

Song Qiao smiled and nodded, "Of course. What do you want to talk about?"

"About your accident...What happened last night?" asked DX as he reached over to take a peeling knife and started to peel an apple from the fruit baskets.

Song Qiao was disappointed by the topic of conversation but she was happy when she saw DX peeling an apple for her.

As she leaned against the pillows, "It's nothing, really. I went to your room to talk to you. When I saw Ms. Zhen, I was surprised. I thought everything was fine but she got upset when she saw me. I guess she was upset because of what Ma...no, Old Madam Du...said earlier..."

DX gave a slice of the peeled apple to her before asking, "Qiao Qiao...Regarding Kai Xin, I'll talk to her, but can you please forgive her?"
