Chapter 279 - Press Conference (13)

Ki Hong and Kai An went to grab something for the girls to snack on when the latter asked, "Are you alright?"

"Huh? Yeah..." answered Ki Hong as he massaged his neck.

Unlike the rest, he was kidnapped and brought over by force. Granted, he probably deserved it after the way he talked to President Du the other night at Kai Xin's place.

"If I've known that it was him, I wouldn't have done it..." murmured Ki Hong bitterly.

When he saw the news, he was shocked by the revelation. He had never expected that the mystery man that Kai Xin brought home was his boss.

Glaring at Kai An, he accused, "You knew who he was from the start!"

Kai An laughed and nodded, "Surely you don't think that my mum would have let her date a man without knowing his identity?"

"You should have told me! I made him stripped down and we had a showdown!"

"It's more fun not to tell you, " Kai An admitted with a wicked grin. He would never forget the scene that day.

As they filled up a platter with a variety of fruits and cookies, Kai An said, "To be honest with you, I always thought that you'd be my brother-in-law and I think that my mum had the same thought too..."

Ki Hong sighed as he took some canned drinks from the fridge and placed them on the platter. As he arranged them nicely, he muttered, "God of Fate has a way of playing with people's heart. He placed her right in front of me but made me watched as another man took her away...I was the one who met her first...I should be her man..."

"But you are too slow..." said Kai An before he gave Ki Hong a pat on the back.

With a wry grin, Ki Hong agreed. He placed his hand and pulled out his handphone. Leaning against the marble countertop, he sighed as he looked at the key chain that was attached to his handphone. It was a simple keychain with a silver ring hanging off of it.

The design of the ring was intricate and it looked like a grass crown.

"What's that?" asked Kai An.

"A token of love," murmured Ki Hong as he touched the ring. The moment he received his first paycheck, he had the ring made and it had been hanging off his phone since then.

The ring was made in the shape of the first gift Kai Xin gave him. He remembered that day as clearly as if it was yesterday.

It was on Kai Xin's 7th birthday and her mother invited a small group of kids over to celebrate it with her.

"Hey, where's your dad?" asked one of the younger kids after An Qi Yan left the room.

"I don't know..." murmured Little Kai Xin as she looked at her feet that were dangling off the chair. The slice of half-eaten cake was pushed away as she felt a little sad over the question.

To cheer her up, Little Kai An took one of the bigger presents on the table and rattled it before saying, "Don't care so much about dad...Look at the presents that your friends brought you...Don't you want to open them up?"

Little Kai Xin shook her head weakly. Little Ki Hong did not like it when he saw her being all quiet and down so he went over and patted her head before saying gently, "I'll be your dad...Good, Kai Xin... Good... "

She glared him before pushing his hand away, "Am I a puppy?"

"Then what do you want?" asked the boy.

"A wife!" said Little Kai Xin before she ran into her room and came out with a white towel.

She placed it over Little Ki Hong's head before taking a step back to admire her work.

"Beautiful...My wife is too beautiful..."

He blushed and murmured, "I'm a boy...I can't be your beautiful wife..."

When he heard the kids snickering as they called him "Kai Xin's wife", he tore the towel off and threw it at her.

"You are a girl! You should be my wife instead," pointed Little Ki Hong.

Little Kai Xin got angry and threw the towel down on the floor before she snapped, "I don't wanna be a wife! Wife gets bullied!"

"I won't bully you if you are my wife!"

"You are bullying me now! It's my birthday and you won't even give me what I want!" cried Little Kai Xin. She ran to her older brother for comfort and her loud cries bothered Little Ki Hong so much that he relented.

He dragged his feet over and picked the towel up from the floor before draping it over his head. With a detached voice, he said, "My husband...Your bride is here..."

His face burned with embarrassment when he heard the kids laughing at him. Even Little Kai An chuckled when he heard what the boy said.

Only Kai Xin did not laugh at him. She went over and patted him on the head before saying, "You are such a good wife...Don't worry...When you are stronger than me, I'll let you be the husband..."

When he looked at her, she was smiling again. Suddenly, to everyone's confusion, She ran out and grabbed a couple of grass before weaving them into a ring shape.

As she pushed the 'ring' that was a size too big on his left ring finger, she murmured, "How can my wife be without a ring..."

After he went home, Little Ki Hong asked his mum to flatten the ring before sending them to be laminated.

It was his bookmark for the longest period of time until he threw it away in a fit of anger over Kai Xin's decision to transfer school without saying anything.

....

"NO!!! NOT AGAIN!!!"

Ki Hong was taken back to reality by the sound of her shouting. She was playing Mario Kart against Naomi when she lost again.

"Seriously, Naomi! You are too good at this!" groaned Kai Xin before she scooted aside for Jane to take over the next round.

"You are good at disguising yourself. I'm good at video games..." said Naomi with a smile. She was shy in nature and preferred to stay at home most of the time. As a result, she spent a lot of her free times playing video games at home.

As he placed the platter of snacks down, Ki Hong smirked, "Kai Xin is bad at anything that is non-violent."

"Shut up!" warned Kai Xin before she threw a pillow at him.

As the men took their seats, Ki Hong thought as he fiddled with the ring, "I'm obviously stronger than her now... but my husband has become someone else's wife..."

He smiled as he watched her fought Kai An for one of the controllers. Even though it was hard for him to admit, he knew from looking at her expression that she was truly happy to be here. Someone posted a video of DX at the press conference and Ki Hong knew then that his boss was serious about her.

He had been following all the news about DX since he was a kid and he could tell that the way the man treated Kai Xin was completely different from how he used to treat his ex-girlfriends.

"I hope that you would always be happy with him..." thought Ki Hong sadly. When he saw DX before and even though he was wearing a mask then, Ki Hong had a feeling that he was someone formidable. Perhaps, it was since then that he prepared himself for today.
