After being threatened by DX, none of the reporters dared to write without any substantial proof. Even Zhou Lun held back on his words when he wrote his article on the matter. After a couple of days, Kai Xin was allowed to leave Du Mansion and went back to work. However, DX was adamant with having her cut down on the amount of work.
They even had a small argument which was resolved after he swiftly pointed out that her job was highly stressful and the stress might cause problems to the baby's developments. He knew that it was unlikely but the warning worked as she listened to him and merely handled the petty cases.
However, she was so bored by the lack of work that she kept picking fights with DX whenever he was back from home. Unfortunately, she was unable to get the reactions she wanted from him because he loved the arguments. After all, it always ended up with the two of them rolling around in bed.
About a month later, Layla suddenly announced that she and Quinn would be going back to the United States. They were fully packed and once everything was put into the car, they sent a message to all the occupants of the house. Both of them waited in the living room for everyone to gather before they broke the news to them.
Previously, Layla had told the adults that she was thinking of going back soon. So, there were not much of a reaction from them. However, the children were different.
Quinn did not want the twins to countdown the days, so she told everyone else to keep it a secret.
Naturally, when the twins heard the news for the first time, they were surprised and angry at the same time.
"What? How could you do this to us?" asked Jack in an annoyed tone.
"When?" asked Lyle.
The brothers turned to look at Quinn who had been unnaturally quiet since yesterday. She did not even bother to pick fights with Jack and in addition, she was being scarily kind to him as well. Jack thought she was coming down with fever and thus, he did not think too much about it.
"Today. We are leaving soon," said Quinn sadly. With a sad sigh, she pressed her face against her mother's thigh so that she would not have to face them.
"Why don't you just tell us an hour before you leave!" snapped Jack angrily. As much as she annoyed him, he cared for her deeply and he felt hurt that she would keep such big news from him. Even Lyle was hurt by her action.
"Jack, it's not Quinn's fault," sighed Layla. She knew that the boys and Quinn had formed a relationship that was not dissimilar to hers and DX.
When the boys continued to glare at her daughter, Layla explained, "Quinn had been here for almost 1/2 a year. Her Mum misses her and she misses her Mum as well..."
"But this is too sudden..." said Jack with a pout. He thought that Quinn would be here for a longer period of time and he was going to ask his father to enroll her in Imperial Primary. Even if she was taking classes over the Internet, he thought it would be better for her to socialize with other kids her age.
"It's hard to say goodbye..." murmured Quinn. She visited her grandfather the day before along with her mother. The old man was angry at them but at least he would be flying over to US next month. With the twins, she did not know when she would be able to see them again.
"We'll miss you..." said Lyle sadly.
She went to Lyle and hugged him first before she hugged Jack. With a sad voice, she said, "I'll miss you guys too..."
Jack sighed and patted her head, "We'll call you every now and then. Take care of yourself, you brat...And stop growing uglier. It would be bad if no one wants you."
Quinn scowled at him as she debated whether to kick him below the belt. However, since she felt bad for not telling him about going home, she decided to let him off unharmed and just stuck her tongue out at him cheekily.
She then went to Kai Xin and hugged her. With a sad face, she said, "Godma, I really want to stay until the baby is born, but I also want to see Mum..."
Kai Xin smiled and patted the little girl on the back before saying softly, "I understand...Your Mum must be feeling lonely since you and your Mama are both here..."
"I'll come back for a visit soon..." said Quinn as she looked at her Godma with a miserable expression on her face.
Pinching her chubby cheeks, Kai Xin said, "Don't look so sad. It's not like I won't see you again. When you come back next time, bring Judge with you. It has been a while since I last saw her."
Quinn nodded. She then went to her Godfather and stood in front of him without saying anything. When she raised her arms up, he automatically carried her up in his arms as if it was the most natural thing for him to do.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she hugged him tightly as she whispered, "Even if you have a new baby girl, you cannot forget about me, ok?"
DX chuckled and whispered back, "How can I forget my favorite Goddaughter?"
When she heard him, she leaned slightly backward so that she could see his face. With a frown, she pointed out, "I'm your ONLY Goddaughter!"
"And you will remain my ONLY Goddaughter forever..." said DX before he placed a kiss on her forehead.
"What are you going to name the baby?"
"I don't know. How about Quinn?" asked DX in a teasing manner.
Quinn shook her head furiously as she said, "No! I'm the only Quinn in your life!"
As he placed her down on the floor, DX laughed and said, "Yes, Your Majesty. You are the only Quinn in my life...As for the baby's name, we haven't decided yet. I'll let your Godma decides on her name, but we will let you know once we've narrowed it down."
Quinn nodded in a solemn manner as if it was only right that her opinion was consulted first. When no one was looking, she smirked at the twins as if to say that her rank in this house was above them.
While Lyle smiled in amusement, Jack merely rolled his eyes at her before he facepalmed himself.
Quinn went on to the rest of the family to bid them farewell while her mother talked to Kai Xin and DX.
Holding Kai Xin's hands, Layla said, "If you need anything, just give me a call. If he bullies you, tell me. I'll release all the embarrassing photos I have of him immediately!"
Kai Xin laughed, "You know, you are his best friend first."
"Yeah...Which is why I'm not afraid to do so. He'd just forgive me after a while," said Layla with a smirk as she glanced at DX.
"Don't push your luck, woman," murmured DX gruffly before he pulled her into a hug.
"I'll see you soon..." said Layla as she hugged him back.
"Don't stay away for too long. I expect to see you again before my girl attends kindergarten," said DX. As much as she annoyed him, he would still miss her. Before Kai Xin came into his life, she was the only person in the world who made him feel normal.
Once they were apart, Layla grinned and as she patted his back, she said, "Don't worry. Someone has to teach the kid all the bad words in the world."
At the thought of his daughter learning all the dirty words that Layla used to say before she became a mother, he pointed straight to the door and said, "Please leave now and don't ever come back."
As she watched the two banter to and fro, Kai Xin could not help but smile. She was glad that DX grew up with someone as wonderful as Layla.
