Chapter 311 - Dinner (2)

Name:Be My Strength Author:LuoYeYouLing
Once everyone left the kitchen, Kai Xin dropped her smile as she stalked towards Ghost. It had bothered her that she was kept out of the loop regarding his mother's death.

With a finger, she poked him in the chest as she asked gruffly, "When?"

He caught her finger and placed her hand down on the countertop before answering her, "A while back...The people that Phantom had been sending out finally found her."

Kai Xin wrapped her arms around herself. She felt that he was being distant towards her. With a sigh, she asked in a demanding manner, "And you don't think that I've got a right to know?"

When he heard the tone of her voice, Ghost stared at her. All of a sudden, he snapped, "What right?"

Startled by his sudden changed of tone, Kai Xin tried to reach out to him but he took a step backward as if he was repulsed by her.

"Ghost..."

Looking at the expression on her face, as if she was wronged by him, Ghost laughed before he pointed out to her bitterly,

"You found yourself a lover and you abandoned me. Just once! Have you ever thought about me during the past couple of weeks? You were so busy with your Du XiAn, your new sons, and your unborn daughter that you can't even be bothered to give me a call!"

"I-I didn't know..." said Kai Xin softly.

"If you had bothered to call, I'd have told you about it..." snapped Ghost as he glared at her. He had felt abandoned by her during the past couple of weeks. Even though Callum was there for him, he still wanted it to be her instead.

Before Kai Xin could say anything else, he pointed out angrily, "You said you'd be with me forever! But you didn't! You fell in love and you left me!"

"I didn't..." said Kai Xin as she clenched her fists to prevent herself from tearing up. He was right. She had been so busy with everyone and everything else that she failed to think about him. Phantom had told her to message Ghost whenever she was free but she kept thinking that he was fine and forgot all about it.

If she had known, she would have gone to him immediately. He did not like others to be with him when he was feeling down.

The only person he allowed to be close to him was Phantom and her. Given the fact that Phantom was always busy with his jobs, Kai Xin knew that Ghost had been dealing with his emotions alone.

"I came. I didn't want to at first but Callum told me that you invited me...So, like an idiot, I came here because I know you want to see me...And this is how you talked to me?" asked Ghost.

With a sad smile, he asked, "Zhen Kai Xin, do you think you still have the right to know more about my life now?"

He walked past her and tried to leave but Kai Xin pulled his hand to stop him.

When he turned back, she had a look of uncertainty plastered on her face as she tried to think of the right things to say.

"I'm sorry, G," murmured Kai Xin as she looked at him. She wanted to grovel her way out of this but she knew that she was at fault here.

He had always been there for her but she failed to be there for him when he needed her the most.

When Ghost turned away from her, Kai Xin said softly, "I'm really sorry, G. I should've been more considerate towards you...I didn't mean to hurt you..."

She knew she went overboard with the way she was talking to him earlier. Having been constantly spoiled by DX lately, she had forgotten that Ghost was suffering as well.

Ghost clenched his fists. He looked up at the ceiling to stop himself from crying.

He had wanted to talk to her ever since the day he found out about the news but he was afraid that she might be too busy to talk to him. Eventually, he decided for her to make the first call but she never did.

If it was not because of the way she talked to him earlier, he would have ignored it and kept the resentment to himself. He would eventually forget about it.

However, when he heard the accusatory tone in her voice, as if she blamed him for keeping her out of his life, he could not control himself and he lashed out at her for the first time ever.

Her voice was regretful when she continued to talk, "I shouldn't have abandoned my friends just because I found someone now...B-but I didn't know...If I've known about it, I'd go to you immediately...I swear!"

When Ghost still refused to talk to her, Kai Xin asked meekly, "Ghost...Have you...buried her?"

Just as she was about to give up hope that he would ever forgive her, he spoke up. In a sad tone, he murmured, "There's nothing to bury...The only thing left of her was the tattered dress that she wore the last time I saw her..."

Not knowing what to say, Kai Xin hugged him. For Ghost who had been waiting for his mother for almost 20 years, the fact that he could not even bury her remains must hurt more than anything else.

Ghost was reluctant to hug her back at first but he soon wrapped his arms around her as a teardrop slowly rolled down from his face. Once that first drop of tear broke free, he could no longer hold back.

Except for the day he found out about it, this was the second time he cried over his mother's death.

He hugged her so tightly that she found herself to be severely affected by his emotions and tears started to pool in her eyes. It stung but she tried her best not to let them fall.

She knew that, like her, he had always been crying alone.

"No...That's wrong..." thought Kai Xin sadly. She had never truly been alone.

Even if she could not talk to An Qi Yan and Kai An about her problems, she knew that they would always be there for her and she knew that if they found out about it, they would have fought for her.

In addition, she had her grandma, Ghost, Phantom...and now, DX.

As for Ghost, he never really had anyone. He was taken away from his loving mother at a young age.

His father hated his existence and thought of him as a blot in his otherwise unblemished reputation.

His stepmother hated him for taking over her son's place and was always plotting against him. His brother hated him for disrupting his life.

His grandfather...Kai Xin knew that even though his grandfather loved him, the old man's love for his grandson was less important than keeping the appearance of a loving family.

That was why, despite Luo Yin's cruelty towards his own brother, it was never revealed to anyone.

She rubbed his trembling back gently while he cried out all the injustice that he had to endure by himself for the past 20 years.
