While An Qi Yan was preparing for dinner, Kai Xin was in the living room, working on the draft submission for one of the cases that she handled previously. Since she handed it to them abruptly, she was worried that her colleagues might not be able to handle it. Thus, she helped out whenever she could.
When she received the call from DX, she was tidying up the draft submission that she had just completed not long ago.
"Hey, what's wrong?" asked Kai Xin as she continued to do a last minute check on her work before sending it to her colleague who took over the case.
DX sighed deeply. He was standing outside a meeting room and was watching the demeanors of the people inside the room as he said, "Principal Jackson called Han Ye earlier. The twins got into a fight at school but I'm stuck in a meeting. I'd send Han Ye but I need him to be here as well and I don't want to call my mother...Do you mind to drop by and pick them up?"
Kai Xin glanced at her watch before nodding, "Yeah, I can drop by to pick them up."
"I'll let the driver knows...Han Ye is sending your information to the school as well so all you have to do is to go there and show them your ID," said DX as he looked at the document that Han Ye passed him earlier. He heard that the Luo Corporation managed to secure a great deal.
To avoid falling behind them, he had to convince President Nowakowski to enter the agreement with him. Even though the Nowakowski Shipping Co was not the largest in the world, it was one of the very best. However, President Nowakowski was a tough person to negotiate with and DX had to focus on the meeting.
Based on his request, Kai Xin understood that he was in an important meeting as it was unlike him to ask her to even lift a finger.
"En. Go back to your meeting. I'll handle this. See you at dinner later," said Kai Xin before she hung up. She quickly sent off the draft submission to her colleagues before going into the kitchen to inform her mother.
"I'm going to pick up the boys. We should be back before dinner," said Kai Xin.
"Is everything alright?" asked An Qi Yan as she looked up from the cookbook that she was studying. Since Kai Xin was pregnant, she wanted to make her daughter something nutritious without it being repetitive.
"Yeah, just a little fight. Nothing I can't handle. Bye," said Kai Xin before she ran back into her room to change into something more appropriate than a pair of shorts and an oversized T-shirt.
When she got to the Principal's Office, the ambassador's wife was already there along with Drake's mother. The twins were startled when Kai Xin entered the office. They were expecting the arrival of either their father, grandmother or even Han Ye.
When Kai Xin turned to them, the twins immediately looked away from her as if they were embarrassed. She looked at the older boys' mothers before nodding at them in acknowledgment. Drake's mother nodded back at her politely but Maximus' mother acted as if she was nothing.
"Principal Jackson, I heard that the boys were in a fight. Is everyone fine?" asked Kai Xin politely.
"Yes. Sorry to bother you, Ms. Zhen. Usually, we would do our best not to bother the parents but this is Lyle's 4th offense, and we think that it would be best if we involve his parents."
Kai Xin listened intently to Principal Jackson as he described what went on earlier to her. Once he was done, she turned to Lyle and asked, "Lyle? Is it true?"
Lyle nodded. He kept his head down, seemingly ashamed of his own actions.
"Why did you fight?" asked Kai Xin. Her tone was calm and she did not blame him or anything. Instead, she wanted to know why he was usually calm and composed. It was unlike him to fight without provocations.
The older twin refused to say anything so Jack spoke up on his behalf, "They were talking sh*t! And they were the ones who started it! We booked the court and we allowed them to challenge us for the right to use the court, but when they lost, they refused to leave in peace. He-"
Jack pointed at Maximus and said angrily, "He pushed us around and he even tried to hit Alex! Lyle was merely defending our friend!"
He did not want to tell her the complete truth. Even if he was unsure whether he could accept her as his mother, she was here to stay and he did promise his father that he would not hurt her intentionally.
Kai Xin looked at Jack. It was the first time he spoke more than 5 words to her and she was pleasantly surprised by it. Turning to the Principal, she said nonchalantly, "You heard the boy. They started it. Can we leave now? My man is about to return from work and I promised him that I would wait for him at home."
Pinching his glabella, Principal Jackson sighed. Shaking his head, Principal Jackson said sternly, "Ms. Zhen, we need to discuss the punishment that would be appropriate for the boys."
Kai Xin glanced at the twins before answering the man, "You heard Jack. Those boys there started it first and they were merely defending themselves. Lyle is not the type who would throw the first punch and I think that you, Principal Jackson, would know him well enough by now. Otherwise, you'd have kicked him out by now."
"It doesn't matter who started it but the fact is that they were caught fighting."
She folded her arms and narrowed her eyes at him, "You are saying that even if they are being beaten to death, they should never retaliate? Or that they can fight, only if they are never caught?"
He frowned at the way she was twisting his words. "No, Ms. Zhen. I'm saying that fighting is bad."
"So, what are the punishments that you are suggesting?" asked Kai Xin.
"1-week suspension for all the boys and they have to clean all the basketball courts everyday for the entire month," said Principal Jackson.
"Mum!" whined Maximus. With all the servants that he had, he rarely lifted a finger at home. It would be torture for him to clean up all the basketball courts everyday!
