"Ms. Zhen! You alleged that three upstanding young men raped you, but do you have any proof?" asked a reporter.
"Yeah! Please don't accused outstanding young men if you don't have proof!" said another reporter.
"Unfortunately, no. It's not every day that a victim of **** knows that they are about to be raped and hence managed to be calm enough to collect evidence of it," said Kai Xin sarcastically as she wondered how they managed to be a reporter.
If she had any solid proof, she would have gone straight to the policemen. Now that she had DX backing her up, what would she be afraid of?
DX took the microphone from her and said to the reporter, "We would be handing the case over to the police to handle."
"Sorry, President Du, but I'm not convinced. Everything is said by Ms. Zhen. She could be lying for all we know," blurted the second reporter rudely without first thinking thoroughly.
Irritated, DX glanced at a guard who immediately dragged the reporter out of the room. Not only him, but the reporter's entire team was forced to leave the ballroom.
He was fine with them whispering in discussion but to blatantly accused Kai Xin was a serious crime. He had warned them and he was not about to repeat himself.
After that, the rest of the reporters quieted down. At such an interesting point, no one would risk getting thrown out and missed the story.
It would be better to wait for the next person to raise the question that was in their minds.
"Why didn't she report it?" whispered the reporters among themselves.
However, before anyone could ask, Kai Xin stood up and walked to the front of the stage while DX walked behind her to give her moral support.
She looked at the audience and at the cameras that were directed at her before speaking into the microphone, "I know that all of you are thinking and wondering why I didn't report it back then and why did I wait until now to say anything."
Some of the reporters and non-reporters alike nodded as they shushed everyone so that the only sound that could be heard was the sound of them breathing. No one wanted to miss it.
"Look at the questions that you lot just directed towards me earlier...and the questions that you're thinking to ask but afraid to ask, " said Kai Xin as she glared at the reporters.
Not only did she felt for herself, she felt for the other **** victims who had to go through the same kind of questionings whether it was by a reporter or by police.
No one said anything and Kai Xin continued. She placed a hand on her chest as she said, "I was 14. I was scared and in pain. Worse of all, I felt as if I was unable to do anything because people like you would deem that it's my fault. People like you who doesn't know anything felt as if it was your right to condemn me..."
Some of the reporters lowered their heads as they were ashamed of what they were saying and thinking earlier.
She continued, "...Instead of trying to find out the truth, more than half of you came here today with the intention of proving the Internet right. You wanted the hot news, that as President Du's wife, I was a s*x crazed maniac. In the court, we have presumption of innocent. However, in your eyes, I'm already guilty!!!" said Kai Xin angrily as she looked at the people sitting before her.
Kai Xin did not give them a chance to rest before adding, "If you must know, I made a report. I went to the police. Guess what? I was asked if I seduced the boys… If I was wearing something that was too revealing... If I gave them any signals..."
She gulped. Her emotions were overwhelming her as she continued, "...If I know who I'm reporting against. I was threatened by the police who took my statement that no one would believe what I said. That I'm just a weak girl with no backings. That, if the boys wanted to, they could turn it against me and destroy my family."
She took a deep breath and glanced up to prevent the tears from falling before saying,
"They tried to silence me. By using their powerful background, they tortured me mentally and physically...I couldn't tell anyone. Up until recently, not even my family knows anything about it. I was afraid. Afraid of what they would do to me. Afraid of what they would do to my family. For years, I have to live in a nightmare that I can't seem to get out of."
Some of the reporters teared up and they glanced at each other guiltily because Kai Xin was right. They had formed their opinions before they walked into the ballroom.
Kai Xin stared into the cameras and raised her voice, "Ye Tian, Shangguan Xing, Luo Yin… Because of what you did to me, I had to kill my own child because I can't bear to know that it was one of your child..."
A loud collective gasped came from the floor. Even the guards and DX's hotel staff who were there were shocked by the revelation. Head Manager Han, who was usually expressionless outside of work, frowned when he heard her.
She cried and DX went forward to hold her. He whispered, "It's enough."
She shook her head. Now that it was out, she wanted everything to be out. The injustice that she felt, the anger!
She wiped her tears away angrily before she said, "I was 14 years old. I had to bear the knowledge that I was defiled by my brother's friends. That I was impregnated because of it... "
"...At 14, I should be deciding what path to take for my future. Instead, I'm forced to decide whether to keep a child that was forced upon me...and I have to live with the guilt of my decision for the rest of my life..."
"... I won't stop until all of you get what you deserved. The law might have barred me from pursuing a case after you, but you won't be able to be free for long… Even if I cannot get you legally, I still want people to know your true nature! I won't... "
Suddenly, a well-dressed man stood up and interrupted her, "I'm Yun Qi, a representation of Luo Corporation and a lawyer working for Vice President Luo Han. President Du, we would be pursuing legal actions for the defaming words of Ms. Zhen..."
"... I'm sure that Ye Family and the Shangguan Family would have done the same thing. **** is a serious allegation and Ms. Zhen should not simply accused three fine and outstanding young men of such a heinous crime."
"... The alleged crime was done almost 13 years ago. If what Ms. Zhen said was true, there should be a record at the police station. However, I'm sure that with a little digging, the reporters here would be unable to find anything because there's no such thing!"
Callum was about to move towards him when DX signaled him to stand back.
Lawyer Yun continued, "... The fact that there's no evidence of any sort, not even a basic medical report, shows that Ms. Zhen's words are nothing but lies!"
Instead of getting provoked, DX replied him calmly, "Mr. Yun Qi, I can assure you that we are not simply accusing them. My wife did not know this, but I've managed to get evidence and a witness who could prove everything."
Lawyer Yun smirked. Before Luo Yin released the photos, he had given Lawyer Yun a call and told him to do all the due diligence and get rid of any evidence.
Lawyer Yun had went through all the reports from the clinics and hospitals in Kai Xin's old town, there was no evidence to show that she ever visited them for anything other than the basic flu and fever.
Furthermore, he had checked with the school and all the footage from that the entire week when it happened was lost due to a virus attacking the school system.
With a smug expression, Lawyer Yun said, "Then, please produce your witness and evidences now, President Du."
DX led Kai Xin back to the couch and when she was seated, he knelt on one knee to talk to her.
He gently wiped her tears away with his thumbs before he said softly, "Kara, he gave me a call last night after you went to bed. I didn't know about it beforehand."
"Who?" asked Kai Xin.
"ZiYan. Phantom."
"What?"
"He has a secret that he has been hiding from you for a long time and in exchange for him to give us the evidence, he requested for me not to tell you about it. He wanted to tell you everything himself."
"DX, what are you talking about? What secret?" asked Kai Xin. She did not know that DX had been communicating with Phantom behind her back. None of them ever mentioned anything.
DX shook his head, "Kara, I don't know the full story. I only know that he knew a lot more about what happened to you than what he told you and that he had the evidence..."
He patted her softly on the head as he said, "...But no matter what he said, I'd be here for you. You must try to be as calm as possible, alright? Think about our baby."
Kai Xin was confused by his words but she could tell from his tone that he was really worried about her.
She was afraid that he might decided against using whatever evidence that could clear her name if he did not believe that she could handle it.
In the end, she nodded and said, "I'll try my best."
While they were chatting among themselves, Lawyer Yun said impatiently, "President Du, we are still waiting for your so-called witness."
