Kai Xin frowned as she tried to remember what had happened. Her mind was a little fuzzy at the moment. It was as if there was a fog inside her brain. She could not tell if the things she saw in her mind was real or unreal.
After a while, she murmured, "F-Festival… Jack…"
She then glanced at DX and murmured, "Shot…"
"Yes! Yes! What else can you remember, honey?" asked DX with a smile on his face. He wiped off the tears that were in his eyes as he looked at his beautiful wife who had lost so much weight in the past three months.
Kai Xin frowned. There was something else. She looked down at her hands, and as she did that, she realized that her belly was flat.
Then, she recalled everything.
Her daughter… She was gone…
Tears started to well up in her eyes as the memory of seeing her lifeless daughter struck her. She had only had a glimpse of her daughter before she blacked out.
"My baby…" Kai Xin's tears fell slowly as she looked at DX. She did not understand why he was smiling and nodding at her. She thought that it was cruel that he could still smile when their daughter was gone.
DX knew what she was thinking and he placed a kiss on her forehead before he whispered, "She's alive…"
Kai Xin went wide-eyed when she heard that and she immediately looked at Dr. Phillip for confirmation. The man nodded, and so did the nurses standing around her bed. Everyone here was in the operating theatre when Kai Xin gave birth, so when they saw her wake up, all of them could not help but be happy for her.
Kai Xin immediately pulled DX's hand and said, "I want to see her! I want to see her now!"
She tried to get down from the bed but having been bound to the bed for the past three months, her legs were weak and were unable to support her properly. If not for DX holding her up, she would have fallen flat on her face.
Dr. Phillip told one of the nurses to bring the wheelchair but DX could not wait any longer. He wanted Kai Xin to see Little Monkey right away, so he carried her up in his arms. One of the nurses went around to help them pushed the IV drip as DX carried Kai Xin all the way to the special room that Dr. Phillip prepared for Little Monkey.
After a few weeks in NICU, Little Monkey was able to go home. However, DX refused. He would not leave the hospital without Kai Xin, and he did not want to send Little Monkey home without her parents.
He knew that he was being selfish, but he wanted his daughter where he could see her anytime he wanted.
So, under Kai Xin's name, he donated an insane amount of money to the hospital. In fact, it was triple the amount of his annual donation to the hospital. In return for his donation, the hospital cleared out a room for him to turn it into a temporary nursery.
Inside the room, everything was decorated to be warm and cozy. There was a couch in the room for guests, books for them to read to Little Monkey, and lots of colorful toys. Even though it was not her home, it was sufficient for now.
Even though Dr. Phillip thought that DX was being ridiculous and over the top, but if he was honest, he was also worried about Little Monkey's health. Despite her having almost doubled in size by now, her body was still a little weak. Every now and then, she would have trouble breathing.
The temporary nursery was not a bad thing as there would be at least one nurse who would be in the room with Little Monkey at all times. Dr. Phillip had talked about it with DX before. Once they returned home, they had to monitor Little Monkey and someone must be arranged to be with her at night.
Dr. Phillip watched as DX walked in front of him. Even though he was a little thinner now, but his friend still exuded the same terrifying aura of the man who was feared by many. DX had always been ruthless to his opponent, but when he was with his family, there was always kindness in his eyes and gentleness in his hands.
If this was 20 years ago, Dr. Phillip would have never believed that the callous and cold man would one day be capable of such gentleness.
When DX entered the room with Kai Xin in her hands, the twins who were in the room with Little Monkey were shocked. Eyes widened, they stared at her for a short moment before they gasped out loudly, "Mum!"
Kai Xin smiled at the twins who were sitting on the couch. She recalled that Jack was hurt by Shangguan Xing. So, when she saw him sitting there with not a scar in sight, she sighed in relief.
She looked at them. Little Monkey was in Lyle's arms while Jack was holding a nursery rhymes book. The latter was probably reading to her before they came in.
Once Jack got over his shock, he immediately ran over. He gently touched her hand as if to convince himself that she was really awake. Once he was sure, he looked up and asked her in a small voice, "Are you feeling better now? When did you wake up?"
"She just woke up, Jack. Not long after you guys left… But she doesn't have much energy at the moment, so don't ask her too many questions," said DX.
Kai Xin rolled her eyes at his overprotectiveness but she did not say anything. Despite her sleep, she was indeed still a little tired.
He walked to the couch and gently placed Kai Xin down as if she was a priceless treasure that would break upon a minor impact.
Once Kai Xin was seated down on the couch, Lyle scooted closer to her and in a soft voice, he said softly, "Little Monkey, look! It's Mummy!"
Kai Xin looked at the bundle in Lyle's hand and she saw DX's intelligent looking eyes staring back at her. She was surprised by her size as she recalled Little Monkey to be quite small the last time she saw her.
Looking at DX, she then asked, "She seems bigger. I recall her being smaller than this."
DX smiled. He sat next to her before he replied, "That's cause you were out for three months."
Hearing his words, Kai Xin gasped, "Three months!"
It did not feel like three months! She felt as if she had only slept for a couple of hours! Well, maybe around 12 hours! But three months?!
"That's not right..." thought Kai Xin. Something was amiss here. Even if she was a preemie, by now, she should have been discharged from the hospital.
With a worried expression, she looked at Dr. Phillip as she asked, "Why is she still at the hospital? Is she alright?"
The man laughed softly as he answered, "Why don't you ask your husband?"
When she looked back at DX, he smiled guiltily as he said, "I want us to go home together… All of us…"
Dr. Phillip smiled as he said, "He gave my nurses a lot of troubles during the past three months… Some of them nearly resigned because of how mean he was!"
When he felt a menacing stare from DX, he gulped and faked a cough before changing the topic, "Anyway, Little Monkey can go home with you guys anytime. She's completely fine, but you! We still have to do some check up on you before we can allow you to go home."
Hearing that her daughter was fine, Kai Xin sighed in relief. She then turned her gaze back to her daughter and with a smile, she asked softly, "Did you miss me?"
Little Monkey did not recognize her, so when she looked at Kai Xin, she remained expressionless. Still, she wanted to cry so that her brother would take her away from this "stranger".
With teary eyes, Kai Xin took Little Monkey's small hand in hers as she said softly, "You scared me earlier... Please don't do that again, alright? I love you so much… So, so much..."
Little Monkey frowned. She recognized this voice. She had heard this voice before, but she did not know where.
"Do you want to try to carry her, Mum?" asked Lyle as he looked at his mother with a smile. Kai Xin had lost a considerable amount of weight and her cheeks had sunken in. Still, he still thought of her as one of the most beautiful women in the world.
Kai Xin thought about it for a moment before she shook her head and said in a small voice, "I'm afraid…"
