When she asked DX earlier, he did not answer her. Instead, he kept trying to avoid it by changing the topic abruptly. He wanted her to stay out of it and focus on recuperating. However, she was curious and this was a matter that affected her as well, so she really wanted to know.
Ghost thought for a moment before saying in a hushed tone, "Callum said that they are at the Shenlong House now. Ye Tian was badly injured when they saved him, and they had to put him in a medically induced coma. He lost so much blood and I heard that one of his legs was badly infected. They had to amputate the infected leg to save his life. When he woke up two months ago, he was completely disoriented... Callum also said that Ye Tian never said a word since he woke up…"
Ever since Ghost found out that Ye Tian was his half brother, he felt weird and uncomfortable. Upon his request, Callum had shown him photos of Ye Tian at the Shenlong House. There was not a sign of the smart, calculative Ye Tian from before. Instead, there was only a man who looked like a living corpse.
Kai Xin recalled back to the day when she saw Ye Tian hung from the ceiling. Back then, she had thought that it was impossible for Ye Tian to survive the injury. She remained expressionless as she thought about what happened to Ye Tian.
With his looks and intellect, he could have achieved a lot more in life… But he chose to take the wrong route.
She clenched her fists tightly to get his image out of her mind. She would no longer allow any of them a place in her mind.
"What about Shangguan Xing?" Kai Xin asked after Ghost stopped talking for a while.
Ghost took a deep breath and exhaled before answering her, "As for Shangguan Xing… Your husband here used too much force. According to Callum, he said that when Du XiAn threw Shangguan Xing against the tree, the impact damaged Shangguan Xing's spinal cord. He's a paraplegia paralysis… Well, he's disabled in other words… We have someone who could save him, but Callum said that man like him doesn't deserve his legs, and I fully agree with it."
Kai Xin thought about the deranged look on Shangguan Xing's face and agreed. The man who could orchestra such a terrible accident did not deserve having his legs saved. She could still remember clearly how the b*stard threw Jack against the wall and stomped on Jack.
Thank God for the only side effect from that day was a scar on the back of her son's head. Otherwise, Kai Xin would have committed murder herself. Just thinking about how helpless she was when Shangguan Xing was hitting her son caused her blood pressure to rise.
Ghost glanced at DX, who was still sleeping peacefully while Kai Xin gently tapped on his chest, before saying, "Du XiAn doesn't want to deal with them while you were still… sleeping. So, both of them are kept in the Shenlong Family's private jail and under the care of the Shenlong Family. I think, once you're better, Du XiAn would start to deal with them personally…"
Kai Xin looked at DX, who had never once let go of her hand, and said softly, "It's finally ending…"
She looked at the iPad that was in her other hand. Before Ghost interrupted her, she was reading about Luo Yin's trial and Judge Rong's judgment where he expressed sympathy to the girls who suffered because of the law. In his judgment, he had also stated his disappointment in the legal system which failed to protect this vulnerable section of the society.
According to the news, after Judge Rong meted out the sentence, he had made a personal apology to the victims who gave their statements. As part of the country's legal system, he apologized for the dirty cops who took bribes and he also apologized for the country that failed them.
Once the case ended, the parliamentary started to look into the law on s*xual offenses and there was a huge crackdown. Every legal enforcer, from the cops to the judges, had to go through checks. Their accounts and the personal accounts of their immediate families were scrutinized.
In addition, the election ended when she was unconscious. With Luo Yin's case following Luo Han, President Tong Lin managed to win the election easily. It was a 95% vote for him. Once he was back in the presidency, the first thing he did was to set up a team to investigate all the ministers.
Almost a quarter of the ministers were dismissed or being actively investigated on at the moment.
Kai Xin smiled as she turned off the iPad screen.
The protection of the law that was once denied to her was also the one which she continued to give to others like her. That was why she became a lawyer.
One of the reasons why she told her story during the press conference was to tell girls like her, who felt the helplessness and oppression, that they were not alone. That there were people out them with the same experience. Even if it seemed tough, it was still possible to fight back.
Everything that was taken from her, as far as possible, DX had given it back to her. She could only hope that the girls, who had no one to protect them, would be able to find someone in their lives that could help them trust and love again.
Ghost glanced at Kai Xin who was deep in her thoughts. As he looked at his hands, he agreed with her.
Everything they worked for was coming to an end. Ghost had the closure that he wanted. Well, almost. For almost 20 years, all he wanted to see was his mother, but since there was no chance of that now… He knew that to continue to dwell on it would just cause him more pain.
His mother was gone, and there was nothing he could do now. However, he could move forward now… There was no reason for him to hide or fake anything anymore.
He smiled when he saw Kai Xin placed a kiss on DX's forehead. She had finally told her story to everyone and took her revenge against those who hurt her.
All of her attackers came to a terrible end. No, almost the end.
Luo Yin was sent to jail, but Callum said it would not be that easy for him to escape DX's judgment. Callum knew that his brother was too busy to deal with Luo Yin and that it was also because of Kai Xin who wanted to believe in the law that DX had not acted.
Ghost did not know what DX planned for Luo Yin but he agreed with Callum - it would not be so easy for Luo Yin to escape.
To that half brother of his, he had nothing but disdain and contempt. Even if Luo Yin was cut to a hundred pieces, Ghost would not feel an ounce of pity for him. Since his birth, Luo Yin had everything, but that was not enough for him. He wanted more. He disregarded people's feelings. He stomped on others as if they were a piece of dirt on his shoe.
"Good riddance…" thought Ghost whenever he thought about that half brother of his.
For Ye Tian, however, Ghost had a complicated feeling whenever he thought about Ye Tian's background. He had seen the recording. Ye Tian knew about his real parentage. The question was… since when?
Based on the recording, it appeared to Ghost that everything Ye Tian did was to destroy the Luo Family… or at least, Luo Han and his immediate family. What Ghost did not understand was why did Ye Tian leave him alone most of the time? Was it because he did not have to do anything? Or was it because he thought of Ghost as another weakling who was not worthy of his time?
Ghost closed his eyes and with his hands behind his head, he thought, "When did he start planning for his revenge?"
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Kai Xin poked him in the shoulder. When Ghost turned to look at her, she asked with a worried tone, "Don't you think Little Monkey is a little small in size?"
Ghost stared at her for a few seconds as he thought about the sudden change of topic. He then chuckled and answered her, "She was born premature, so it's normal I think… If you think about it, instead of three months old, she's actually a little less than two months old…"
Kai Xin thought about it and nodded, "You're right…"
Seeing how active Little Monkey was, she had forgotten that her daughter was a premature baby. Other than her size, Little Monkey seemed to be fine. Kai Xin hoped that Little Monkey would continue to grow healthily despite her rocky start in life.
Looking at Ghost who yawned twice in a row, she asked with a smirk, "Rough night?"
