The audience was all stunned by Jiang Yingyue. She was a commoner, a person whom everyone
present could look down upon, but the way she carried herself had already amazed them. Now they saw how easily she managed to deal with that other woman, and they understood that she was no ordinary commoner.
Han Qingshan was proud of Jiang Yingyue when he heard how she spoke, and he clearly felt that she was the best companion he could ask for. Even when he had not been by her side, she had been domineering and decisive. She had not let herself be bullied.
But when he looked at her shoes, he could not help but frown. These shoes were no longer usable, but he had brought no other pair with him.
He was the heir to the Han Corporation, so he ought to be present for the banquet, but he could not let his partner walk around like this. It was a disgrace.
"Let us take Miss Jiang backstage," the host suddenly said, "we can get a pair of shoes sent over. It is, after all, our responsibility as hosts."
Han Qingshan looked at Jiang Yingyue and nodded his head before he handed her over to the host. Although he was hesitant to leave Jiang Yingyue, he did not want her to suffer either, so he quickly let them bring her away, and then he waited for her to come back to him.
Meanwhile, he began mingling with other businessmen and women, hearing various pitches for projects that they were interested in working with him on.
At the same time, the host was immensely respectful towards Jiang Yingyue. The event was held at a large hotel, and she quickly led her to one of the better rooms where she let her sit down in the lounge.
"We will get a pair of shoes sent to you," she said, but then she frowned. "I am afraid they cannot be as luxurious as the ones you wear now, we are after all a charity organization, so if we were to spend money on such a thing, people would frown upon it."
Jiang Yingyue was surprised when she heard that it was the charity that would pay for her shoes, and she quickly nodded her head. "I don't care for the brand or the price," she said honestly, "as long as they are white or silver, anything goes."
Hearing this, the woman nodded her head in approval. Jiang Yingyue did not need to wear expensive shoes to stand out. Everyone at the banquet knew what had happened to her, so they would not look down upon her for wearing cheap shoes.
The host was in a dilemma, though. She had intended to spend a few thousand yuan on shoes for Jiang Yingyue, but it seemed that she was satisfied with shoes that cost even less than a hundred yuan.
"I do not want to take money away from the charity," she said honestly.
Hearing this, the host had a good feeling for Jiang Yingyue. She was not pretentious at all. Instead, she was gentle and well mannered.
In the end, the host managed to buy a pair of shoes for a thousand yuan. They could not be considered expensive, but they were not cheap either.
While they were being sent to the hotel, Jiang Yingyue and the host ended up talking together.
The host was named Sun Qingyuan. She was a young woman at twenty-six years old. She came from a prominent family too, but where the other women often became socialites, she became a businesswoman.
She was from a family of doctors, and she had been a philanthropist and came from a family that often worked for charities and the greater good of society.
She was not at all stuck up like many of the other people that Jiang Yingyue had met in the circle so far, and she quickly found that this person was enjoyable to speak with.
Soon the time had passed, and a knock was heard at the door. The person outside held a pair of shoes for Jiang Yingyue, who quickly picked them up and wore them.
Together, the two women went back to the banquet hall, where the chatter had increased, and many were starting to get slightly tipsy from the constant influx of wine.
Especially Han Qingshan and Zhou Yan had been drinking a lot. Many wanted to give them a toast and to discuss with them, and thus, they were the objects of attention.
Many women had also tried to approach them, but where Han Qingshan remembered the promise he made to Jiang Yingyue and refused to let any woman near him, Zhou Yan was instead shielded by Miss Gou, not allowing any woman near him.
Therefore the two bachelors were able to avoid the many women that tried to get close to them.
When Jiang Yingyue returned to the banquet, she saw that a group of middle-aged men surrounded Han Qingshan. They were all flattering, fawning over him as their faces were filled with worship. It was as if they had seen a person made from gold right in front of them.
Jiang Yingyue could not help but chuckle slightly when she saw their reactions, and then she bid her farewell to Sun Qingyuan before elegantly moving towards Han Qingshan again.
She had almost reached him when she suddenly felt a pull of her hair, and she stood still.. Unfortunately, the tug did not lessen; instead, it increased, and she started to hurt.
