Gu Yan knitted her shapely brows, put down the notebook and smiled brightly at Manla, “Let’s go for lunch.”
Manla was shocked again because she thought Gu Yan’s response was not normal. Manla thought the feelings inside of her must be overwhelming and she must be unable to breathe even if she didn’t show it on her face.
“Let’s call the police!” This was the only reliable way Manla could think of. She was still worried.
The muscles in Gu Yan’s face twitched slightly. There seemed to be a trace of bitterness in her eyes, but it disappeared quickly. Gu Yan suddenly hugged Manla who was still wandering and showed a significant smile.
“I will call the police later. Things will eventually sort themselves out. Now the most important thing is to have lunch so that we can get the energy to figure it out.” Gu Yan said, looking straight ahead. There were tears in her brown eyes and then tears dropped again.
But Gu Yan quickly wiped away the tears and sniffed when she noticed that Manla was worried about her.
“Well, have you contacted Mo Yichen yet? I haven’t heard his news from you for days.” Manla asked and looked at Gu Yan in surprise.
“We…we haven’t been contacting each other for a long time.” Gu Yan paused for several seconds and said. Her body trembled slightly. She didn’t know since when, as soon as she heard his name, her heart turned cold and she felt that a chill ran through her, which made her breathless.
Indeed, she had been losing in touch with the man she loved most for a long time. Now she couldn’t even remember his face and voice. For Gu Yan, Mo Yichen was no match for a stranger. At least it was possible for her to pass the stranger by.
Gu Yan didn’t have any hope for Mo Yichen. In her heart, the love between them eventually would be defeated by time. His affection for her would diminish day by day as well.
Manla turned around and saw Gu Yan’s eyes. At this moment, only Manla could understand how lonely and helpless she was.
“Are you sure you’re not going to contact him anymore. I heard his company has met a very serious problem now. You will know after looking at the newspaper headlines.” Manla talked about Mo Yichen tentatively again, but stopped immediately when she noticed that Gu Yan had no interests in him.
But Gu Yan couldn’t help scolding Mo Yichen to herself. The degree of her love to him and dependence on him were equal to that of her hate to him at this moment.
Gu Yan was struggling and she got no ideas about her thoughts…
After she experienced so many affairs, Gu Yan didn’t know if her feeling for Mo Yichen was love or dependence. She thought she was a good-for-nothing woman who didn’t deserve the attention, affection and love from Mo Yichen.
Everything, including Li Yunhong’s attitude and Chen Qian’s persistence, seemed to stop taking their relationship one step further. Now Gu Yan had no courage and confidence to fight for their love as before.
Manla had lunch with Gu Yan with a heavy heart. During the lunch, Gu Yan pretended to be happy, laughing and talking, as if nothing had happened. But Manla was vaguely involved and lost in thought.
In this way, they were preoccupied and finished the lunch. It seemed that everything went very smoothly, but it presaged a storm.
Manla was relieved and left after driving Gu Yan home because she was worried about her.
When Gu Yan came home, she took a quick shower and sorted out the debt collectors’ information. The total amount added up to over half a million. Gu Yan couldn’t understand why Jiang Jingcheng set her up like that.
Gu Yan, trying to calm her down, took several deep breaths. The scene that how hard Jiang Jingcheng worked in the studio emerged in her mind. Gu Yan wouldn’t have believed that Jiang Jingcheng would betray her if she hadn’t heard it herself.
She started to calm down and stopped thinking about Jiang Jingcheng. Gu Yan unlocked her phone and was ready to call him. She wanted to question him if she had done anything to offend him before, or why he entrapped her by fair means or foul.
“Hello…”
Gu Yan heard a weak voice, as if the man was drunk.
“Jingcheng, we’ve known each other for a long time so I won’t beat around the bush. I just want to know why you betray me.”
Gu Yan said straightly after Jiang Jingcheng answered the phone. In her impression, he was also frank and outspoken.
The silent lasted for entirely five seconds. Gu Yan was holding her breath and listening intently to the man on the other end of the phone.
Jiang Jingcheng coughed softly and hesitated for a while, leaning on the sofa with his phone in his hand. It was high time that he should tell the truth.
“Yes, it was me!” Gu Yan putted on a wry smile when she noticed that he replied confidently and expressed no regrets about what he had done to her.
“Ms. Gu, I…I feel so sorry. I know what I did let you down and I didn’t live up to your expectations. But I have my own difficulties. Sorry.”
“Did Chen Qian ask you to do that?” Gu Yan stopped him from explaining and asked straightly. While he didn’t answer the question. Gu Yan immediately knew the mastermind of the whole plot.
“Did you borrow the money privately in my name?” Gu Yan deliberately turned on the phone’s recording function to collect the proofs to expose Chen Qian and prove her innocence.
However, Jiang Jingcheng didn’t buy it and hung up directly. Gu Yan sat on the sofa sadly, listening to the beep from the phone. Looking at the huge debts, she felt everything was ironic.
Gu Yan threw the notebook heavily on the ground and cried bitterly. This time, she vented all the distress these days. Choking with sobs, she tumbled restlessly in her bed. What should she do?
After a while, Gu Yan restrained her emotions and picked up the phone again. She found out Mo Yichen’s number, then dialed and hung up, over and over again. She didn’t figure out why he had not called her for so long. Did he still care about her?
“No, I can’t bow to you. Why am I the one calling you every time?” Gu Yan lost her mind again, threw the phone, got into the bed and began to cry.
In her spacious room, her sound of weeping mixed with the ticking from the clock. Gu Yan was hiding in the quilt, looking at the photos they took previously. In these photos, she and Mo Yichen smiled happily. When she thought of the happy time she spent with him, she couldn’t help crying bitterly.
