A simple lounge that they had refurnished from a container had daily necessities such as buckets and toothpaste.

Lu Qi silently observed the environment as her gaze fell on the man opposite her. The contractor looked fierce on the outside, but he was still a simple and honest person.

On the way to the construction site, Lu Qi had already investigated the detailed information of the construction team in advance. She knew that they were all from the countryside, and most of them relied on this salary to support their families.

“This is the bank information of Lu Corporation’s payment given to the construction team. If you don’t believe me, I can take you to the bank to check the details…”

Lu Qi opened the relevant information on the computer and pushed it in front of the contractor.

The contractor stared at the screen seriously and said in a hesitant but determined voice, “But we didn’t receive a single cent!”

“Our wages started to fall behind two months ago. At first, we didn’t want to make a big fuss, but we couldn’t survive without the pay. They said that Lu Corporation is in trouble now, and it’s likely that they will disband the engineering team, regardless of whether we get the salary.”

“We were so panicked that we didn’t know what to do. That’s why we forced Mr. Lu to come over and solve the problem.”

The contractor covered his head with his hand. He couldn’t figure out what had gone wrong, so he could only beat himself up in frustration.

Lu Qi’s sharp senses caught the problem in his words, but she did not immediately ask. Instead, she lowered and pondered for a long time before she said, “The company will not give you a new batch of salary, but I can withdraw a portion of cash from my private account and pay you in advance.”

“I know it’s not easy for you. You’ve been living on the construction site all year.”

“I’ll give you this money for emergency purposes, but let me make this clear. When the funds allocated by Lu Corporation recover, you’ll have to return them to me.”

Lu Qi said in a relaxed tone. The contractor lifted his head in disbelief and muttered, “Really?”

Outside the container, the driver received a call from Lu Qi. He quickly went to the bank to withdraw a sum of cash and returned to the construction site to distribute it to everyone. He also carried out the information registration in an orderly manner.

When the contractor felt Lu Qi was trustworthy, he dispelled his suspicions and wariness toward her.

Lu Qi stood up and looked at the scaffold in the distance. “Can you take me to the place where the accident happened?”

The contractor immediately brought her to the outer part of the building. When Lu Qi saw the pool of blood on the ground, she frowned slightly.

“Our construction works are done according to the rules. As the contractor, I check the safety facilities and construction progress every day. I’m also shocked that such a thing would happen. It’s obviously impossible for the scaffold to fall off…” Lu Qi listened to his explanation, stretched out her hand, and said to him, “Give me your helmet.”

The contractor subconsciously handed it over. It wasn’t until he saw Lu Qi walking towards the ladder that he thought of stopping her and said, “Miss Lu, you can’t go up there! You haven’t received professional training. It’s dangerous.”

Lu Qi frowned and looked at him. “Hold it firmly!”

In the black SUV outside the construction site, Mo Chen looked at the agile Lu Qi. His eyes flashed with concern and excitement.

He smirked and whispered with interest, “I wasn’t mistaken. Lu Qi is a wild cat, not the pampered house cat everyone says she is. That’s what makes it interesting. It makes me more interested in her!”

Lu Qi climbed to the highest point. She stood nearly ten meters from the ground and patted the metal rack with her hands.

The metal rack emitted a crisp tinkling sound. Lu Qi tilted her head in puzzlement as she pondered. Her gaze fell on the screws on the innermost row of the metal rack. She squinted her eyes and unscrewed two of them. Then, she held them in her palm and slowly climbed down.

The contractor broke into a cold sweat from being afraid that she would fall. However, Lu Qi handed the screws to him and asked, “Can’t you see that there’s something wrong with these?”

“These screws don’t meet the product standards of the construction site at all. Don’t you know how serious the consequences will be if you use parts of this quality? Or do you not care about your life at all?”

Lu Qi sounded angry. The contractor was stunned by her aura. Bt he lowered his head and looked at the screws in a daze.

“Lu Corporation buys and distributes the screws and accessories to the construction site. We don’t have the right to buy them.”

“In the first few months, we used another brand. But recently, we changed them to this one. We did object to this, but the person-in-charge told us to mind our own business…”
