22 Chapter 22: The great war

Caesar looked at the knight's getting trained by Edward and then looked at Ahri, "Since it seems as though both of the people we were keeping company are busy how about you tell me more about this history over some tea?"

"I-I suppose"

"Great, we will ride the carriage to my residence then" Caesar smiled gently and explained

As if Caesar's smile blinded the girl, she quickly turned away from him and said in a low voice

"Okay"

Caesar walked to his carriage and helped Ahri up, he sat down one side while Ahri sat on the other. Caesar observed the girl on the other side of the carriage and saw that she looked restless and wanted to say something.

"What is it? You can ask me anything" Caesar said comfortingly

"W-well that is, I-I was just wondering… Y-you are v-vampire, right? A noble one at that"

Once she let out the first words the rest came out of her mouth like a bolt of lightning.

"I-I know because vampires are the only race that sucks mana b-but my father told me they were extinct"

Caesar expected she would figure out, "yes, I am," Caesar said slyly. If he had wanted to hide it from her he would have killed her after he sucked her blood.

Although Ahri expected his answer she was still shocked at his confirmation… Tears suddenly streamed down her face. Caesar looked at her tears in shock

"Are you scared of me?" Caesar asked somewhat bitterly

"No! I was just imagining my father's happy smile knowing that a noble still exists…" she replied straight away

"I see…" Caesar said somewhat doubtful, the rest of the trip they moved in silence until they finally reached his manor.

"Plop"

Caesar hopped off the carriage and raised his hand to help Ahri step out, "thank you" she muttered as she got down from the carriage.

Caesar walked through the door and led Ahri to his room… As they passed through the main hall he could see Sebastian cleaning.

"Sebastian, could you please prepare some tea for me and our guest and deliver it to my room?"

Sebastian looked over towards them and calmly smiled "as you wish young master"

Caesar nodded appreciatively and carried on to his room, Ahri behind him hadn't let out a sound since they exited the carriage. She was just carefully following behind him.

"Creak"

Caesar opened the door and walked in, Caesar sat at the small table placed under the window and signaled for Ahri to sit as well.

"Don't be so nervous Ahri, once the tea is served you can calmly tell me the details about the 'great war' and 'holy war'.

Ahri nodded solemnly and sat down at the other end of the table. After what felt like 10 minutes passed a knock at the door was heard.

"Knock"

"Young master, I'm coming in" Sebastian announced loudly before he walked in and placed a tray with tea on it at the table.

"Thank you, Sebastian"

"Your gratitude is wasted on this lowly servant," Sebastian said humbly before bowing and exiting the room.

Caesar picked up one of the teacups gracefully and took a sip. Ahri did the same and felt as though the warm tea calmed her down.

"Ahem" she cleared her throat

"To start off, the dark continent wasn't always called as such. It used to be called the Eclipse continent. The current dark continent has a plethora of races infighting and striving to rule the continent which is the reason it's considered the most dangerousbut weakest continent"

Caesar nodded his head in understanding

Ahri soon continued "in the past, the dark continent was relatively peaceful and was considered to have the strongest force out of any other continent, this was due to the fact the dark continent had a ruler… The dark continent was ruled by the two great races. Respectively the vampires and the werewolves. Although it was ruled by the two great races the vampires were the uncontested strongest"

Caesar had a confused look on his face as he asked "but you said that the nine-tailed fox went head to head with the nobles"

Ahri nodded her head "yes, you are correct. However, the reason why the vampires were on the top of the food chain was due to their progenitor council, the 4 members of the progenitor council were extraordinarily strong, especially the undying one"

Ahri paused for a second and then continued "The vampires were extremely noble, although some of them were evil that was the same for every race. The dark continent was mainly ruled by them peacefully"

Ahri suddenly started gnashing her teeth in anger as she continued "Everything was fine according to my father, however, one day the church threatened to attack because the vampires were evil. Under normal circumstances the church would have held no chance, however, the church started spreading a rumor 'if you eat the heart of a noble vampire you have a chance to gain their authority' "

Ahri soon frowned in sadness "because of the strength of the four progenitors no races in the dark continent even dared to attack one of the nobles… However, it was said that the first progenitor the undying one's wife held a great authority however she could not wield it properly because she was a woman"

Ahri continued "The undying one was said to have been the first vampire in existence, he was the noblest and most peaceful but he was also the most feared. He gave up his position of the lord to the 2nd progenitor and remained in the back lines protecting the vampires"

"The 1st progenitor had been called to a meeting one day, but it was a trap laid by his own kin… The details are unknown even to my father but when the 1st progenitor came back his wife was killed and her heart taken out."

"My father told me that the 1st progenitor easily traced the killer to have been the current werewolf lord… So the normally peaceful progenitor rushed out in rage to the werewolf clan. However, what was waiting for him were the other three progenitors and all of the elites from the werewolf clan"

Tears threatened to fall out of Ahri's eyes as she continued

"The first progenitor cried tears of blood asking 'I treated you as my sons and daughters? I lived for so long and always treated you with love? So why have you all betrayed me?"

"Because you are too powerful," the rest of the council and the werewolf lord said at the same time"

"Soon a huge battle erupted, the 1st progenitor was more powerful than anyone could have imagined, the races loyal to the 1st progenitor joined in the battle against the rest of the dark continent"

"The nine-tailed fox clan happened to be loyal to the 1st progenitor, however, even with the 1st progenitor's strength, they were outnumbered 100-1. The 1st progenitor fell in battle after 3 months of constant fighting between him the other members of the council and the werewolf lord. This marked the ending of the great war"

Ahri paused for a second "but it was the beginning of the holy war, right as the 1st progenitor fell the church invaded with a mighty force of holy magic users. The church wasn't strong enough alone to disrupt the mighty foundation the vampires had, however, the other races wanted to eat the hearts of the nobles… greed filled the eyes of all races and they started a huge mutiny to kill the race that fed them"

"The other council members were fooled by a promise the humans made to them, my father doesn't know the details but the council members were enraged once they realized they had been tricked. Soon with the rest of the forces combining with each other the vampire forces soon lost the battle"

"After all of the vampires were killed, no one gained an authority. The rumor of gaining the authority was merely a lie spread by the church, the werewolves the next in line strongest race after the vampires were soon targeted by the rest of the races in the dark continent… Once they were gone the other races had a chance to rule was what they all thought"

"This marked the end of the holy war, the church retreated back into their continent and let the dark continent infight, this infighting has continued for thousands of years"

Caesar was baffled and looked at Ahri confused "how does your father know all of this"

Ahri replaced her sad look with a proud one "heh, kitsunes live a very long time. My father was the aid to the leader of the nine-tailed fox head! But he ran away when the fighting started and maintained his life…"

Caesar nodded his head in understanding "so that's how the vampires went extinct?"

Ahri soon replied with a smile "nope, they aren't extinct anymore hehehe"

Caesar smiled wryly and looked outside the window "the four progenitors, is there a connection between them and the four paths that I saw in my dream?"

Ahri broke him out of his contemplation "but since the vampires went extinct and you're the first one since ancient times, does that make you the new 1st progenitor?" she said curiously

Ahri's words made Caesar look at her in shock

"I'm not sure" he replied

Suddenly Ahri's body started shaking in excitement and a deep smile was reflected on her face.

Caesar looked at her curiously "what's making you so excited"

A smile blossomed on Ahri's face "Doesn't it excite you, the race that the church tried so dearly to make sure never resurfaced. The 1st progenitor has returned and will get revenge for all of his past kin… perhaps even our home the dark continent can regain its full glory"

Caesar looked at the naive little girl and smiled while stroking his chin in contemplation "it surely won't be as easy as she says, first of all, my physique is merely a noble physique that's not complete and not close to the level of a progenitor yet… And if the other dark continent races and the church hear of the 1st progenitor's rebirth… I can't even imagine the number of people hunting me, I should probably keep my vampire heritage under extra wraps.

Caesar soon stood up and put a finger on Ahri's lips "make sure you don't tell anyone about me being a vampire, for now, not even your father. Do you understand?"

Ahri nodded her head up and down very fast.

Caesar smiled seeing that and said "thank you"
