Nolan narrowed his eyes as he tried to control his temper. "Have you talked to Ellie or the other woman in her life about this? I know Ellie told me that the reason why you married her was because that girl wasn't ready. I can't say that sounds all too good to me, but I know Ellie is very happy with you right now. Wouldn't you like to be happy together?"
He felt uncomfortable when Henry started to shift in his seat and looked angrily at Michael in the doorway. Michael reacted by taking a step in their direction, but Henry shook his head before turning back to his brother-in-law."I wish things could be simpler. But we have decided that we are to be friendly right now, nothing more. I'm very relieved that she had refrained from trying to pursue a romantic relationship with me. I want to respect her wishes. But most of all I want to keep her safe while I can decide with her what we want in our new circumstances."
To say that his words made no sense would probably offend Henry greatly so Nolan refrained from pushing him further. He started to gather his things back into his messenger bag. "I understand. If this is something you don't know how to do, I shouldn't be trying to ask you for help. I'll figure something else out. I'm sorry for upsetting you."
"You haven't made me upset." Henry's voice was hard as his squirrelly corgi frolicked into the room with a stout bark before settling on her master's slippers. Henry looked down at the dog warily. "Oh hello Madeline, your timing is impeccable as always."
Michael came forwards. "Would you like me to take her back to your rooms, sir? I can escort Mr. Chen outside as well if that is what he wishes."
Henry shook his head. "No, you can relax Michael. I have this covered. She decided to sit here, so let her sit. I can handle Nolan." He held up a hand to both men, before turning to Nolan, "I know it hasn't been easy between us. You want to take your sister away from here, but she has ties to one who doesn't care for her. It's uncomfortable for everyone. I'm just trying to keep the peace here. I know things haven't been easy for you either and it does not make me unhappy to help you as it makes Ellie's peace here. Even if I can't help you, I could give you an idea of who to ask next. Talking about it with someone could also bring you a new perspective."
Nolan was still clutching his bag as he sat back down with a tense expression at Michael's retreating figure. He pointed a finger at Henry accusatory. "You can't make fun of me or tell me it's impossible. I have had too much of that to last a lifetime."
"Impossible? I think if I have learned anything from your Chen family it's that you will find a way through any muck." Henry looked pleased. "I think from your earlier clues, I am deducing that there is a woman you are feeling very strongly for. However, to your horror she has decided you are just a good friend?"
