Chapter 34 - New Year Together

When the two of them met again, it was almost New Year’s.

The festive atmosphere had yet to spread throughout the streets and alleys. The nurses who passed by and the nurses who were taking care of Grandpa were all discussing about going home for the new year.

Mia laid on the bed and looked out at the snowy scenery as she thought to herself, her stomach was already showing signs of pregnancy. It was just that the clothes she wore were thick and could barely cover it up. She wondered how she would be able to hide it when she changed into spring clothes after the new year.

It was snowing heavily outside tonight, and the snow had accumulated on the road. Passers-by were walking forward slowly.

The children in the hospital were also happily fighting snowballs and building snowmen under the guidance of their parents. Seeing this scene, Mia felt extremely envious, and a gentle expression appeared on her face. Then, she touched her stomach. If everything went well, the child might come out to fight snowball battles in a few years, Mia thought.

After taking a look at the snowy landscape, Mia returned to the ward. Coincidentally, his grandfather had woken up, so Mia chatted with him for a while.

Grandpa suddenly sighed and said, “I wonder if I can last until the New Year this year. This is the first time I am still in the hospital even though it’s almost the New Year.”

Mia had been lying quietly by the bed while listening to his grandfather’s speech, but she was both uneasy and scared upon hearing it. She shook her head vigorously and put on a happy expression. “Grandpa, have you forgotten? We agreed last year that we would celebrate the new year together. You can’t go back on your word.”

The old man pulled himself together and patted the back of Mia’s hand with a smile. “Okay, our whole family will celebrate together this year.”

At the mention of the new year, the old man, who was mentally weak, became energetic. He pulled Mia along and talked about the past New Year’s events. When he talked about it, he was so excited that he even danced with joy. Beside him, Grandma saw the childish grandfather, and was also invigorated. For a moment, the atmosphere was quite harmonious. Everyone was planning for the new year.

After a while, she mentioned Noah.

“He’s the same as you. He lost his parents when he was young. I brought him up single-handedly. He was influenced by me since he was young, so he’s a little like me in many aspects. He’s very stubborn, and unwilling to admit defeat.” Grandpa sighed.

Then, he continued, “But Noah isn’t bad at heart. He’s a very kind child. If he does anything wrong in the future, I hope that you can be more understanding towards him.” Grandpa held Mia’s hand and said earnestly.

Mia was a little stunned. She didn’t know why his grandfather suddenly brought this up, but she had never refuted his words, so she obediently nodded.

“If you encounter anything, you must communicate properly. Be it husband and wife, friends, family or subordinates, you must communicate properly. Communication is the bridge to solving problems.” Grandpa covered his mouth and coughed a few times. He looked at Mia with a meaningful gaze.

He had been slipping in and out of consciousness recently. Every time he woke up, Mia would be alone in the hospital. Every time Noah came, Mia would find an excuse to go out.

Even though he was sick right now, it was not to the extent that he would become senile.

Grandfather opened his mouth and said slowly, “If Noah doesn’t speak, you won’t either. If there’s a misunderstanding, you don’t even know how to resolve it. One of you has to learn how to talk first.”

When Mia didn’t respond, Grandfather spoke again. “Noah has a bad temper. Grandfather knows that. So, Mia, Grandfather can only ask you to tolerate him. You speak first, okay?”

Mia didn’t want to go against Grandfather and make him unhappy, so she could only nod hesitantly.

Seeing Mia nod, Grandpa’s expression relaxed, and he looked at Mia warmly. “You promised me, so you have to do it, okay? Tell me everything if you feel wronged.”

Upon hearing this,

Mia’s eyes couldn’t help but tear up slightly, and she sounded like she was crying.

Then, Grandpa seemed to have let go of the huge rock in his heart. His expression started to relax, but he suddenly sighed out of nowhere. “It’s a pity that I can’t see my great-grandson.”

These words gave Mia a blow, and she instantly felt extremely guilty.

Grandpa was so good to her. After so many years, he found a home for her and even thought about her in the last moments of his life.

But what about herself? Noah’s grandfather had yearned for a great-grandson for so many years, and she had been by his side every day to see his thoughts. She had watched as Noah’s grandfather aged day by day, but she had never said it out loud. How cruel was this to Noah’s grandfather?

If she really continued to hide it from Grandpa, would she still have a chance if she didn’t tell him now? Would she really have to let Grandpa die with regrets?

If…

If she told Grandpa about her pregnancy, would he have more hope to live? Perhaps Grandpa would be energized and recover from this?

Thinking of this, Mia’s heart skipped a beat. She wanted to wake his grandfather up and tell him about her pregnancy.

When she tried to call him, he had already closed his eyes and fallen asleep.

Mia didn’t wake him up again. After talking for so long, his grandfather’s mental energy was almost completely exhausted. Mia gently tucked his grandfather in and sat down to look at his aged face.

After such a long time, Mia recalled the joy she felt when she first got pregnant. Her heart was filled with the desire to share with Noah, but she did not expect to be drowned in Jenny and the others’ scandals. Her enthusiasm was completely extinguished.

But now that her was in such a bad condition, Mia didn’t want him to have any regrets..
