When we reached the gate there were a group of disciples standing guard that looked vigilantly towards our direction.

When they saw us heading towards them they called out "stop, state your intentions."

Unsure of why they seemed so uptight I responded "we are just a husband and wife who would like to join your sect."

The guard that questioned us nodded his head as he took a closer look at the two of us before he signalled for the other guards to open the gate.

"Head on up, today is the day that we happen to be accepting disciples, if you came any later you would not make it in time. Most people would wait here a day in advance before everyone would be let in at once. You are rather late but if you hurry you should still make it to the registration desk in time. I suggest you make haste if you are serious about joining."

I nodded towards the guards as my wife and I continued our way up the mountain.

"Wifey, when I first saw you I died, why did their reaction seem so bland?"

"Naturally it is because I am concealing my appearance, you really think anyone in this lowly mortal world would be able to catch a glimpse of my true appearance? My husband are you looking down on me?"

"That's a relief I wouldn't want any other man to lay their eyes upon my gorgeous wife. Let the mortals be ignorant for their entire lives."

"Hehe you're making me want to show off a bit so I can see your jealous appearance. Maybe I should make an appearance in front of the candidate?"

"My little wife please don't kid around. My heart cannot bear another man laying their eyes upon you. What if they die too? Who will resurrect their poor little life?"

"Then I'll just tone it down to the standards of beauty on the level within this mortal realm."

"I guess I can accept that. As long as it is not the level of driving nations to war or men to fight to the death that should be fine."

At that level, it should be safe from the ravenous gazes of the creatures known as MCs.

While we passed the time with such senseless banter we eventually reached what looked to be a central plaza that held about 1000 youngsters that were aged between 12 through 18. Their strength fluctuated between 1st to 5th mortals.

I compared myself to them, but after I gained my new body I could not seem to get a good understanding of what my actual level of strength was. When I examined myself I appeared to be a 1st realm mortal like I was in the past, but it feels like my strength is above that. A first realm mortal can lift 50kg, second 100 kg, third 200 kg, fourth 500 kg, fifth 1000kg. As the level within realms grew apart the strength divide only increased. With my new body I really had no idea just how strong I was at the moment.

"Husband it looks like we can register over there. From what I can hear from the crowd it seems like we have to take a few tests to be accepted, but if we are able to display strength of a certain level we can be accepted directly without having to complete any tests."

"What do you want to do darling?"

"Do we even need to do either? Can't we just steal some robes and forge some records and sneak in? Why bother with all the effort of trying to play low key or putting on some outstanding show?"

"Husband, that's cheating you know. If you cheat on this will you cheat on me in the future as well?"

My little wife blinked innocently while asking me such a scary question.

"My little wife, lets sign up for the tests." I said resolutely scared by my wife's innocent question.

"Alright husband. But you didn't answer my question, I'll remember that."

"I would never cheat on you my wife, is there even another woman in existence that can compare to you? If I ever cheat may the heavens smite me out of existence."

Crash.

I quickly turned my head with wide eyes as I looked at where lightning landed about 100 meters away from the central plaza where we were.

It was a coincidence okay! Father in law, please don't joke around with this little son in law of yours! That was you just playing a prank just now, right? Right? Not some kind of sick and twisted joke that foreshadowed the future which was brought about by the heavens, right?

I turned back towards my wife as I saw a somewhat annoyed expression on her face.

"My little wife, the heavens don't have eyes. They clearly have a poor judge of character! Worry not, I am not one with great ambitions. One heavenly beauty is enough for this little lifetime of mine."

"Hohoho lifetime, huh?"

"Little wife why is your expression so scary?"

"Nothing darling husband needs to concern himself with." Those eyes that do not seem to be laughing terrified me a little. Women definitely are terrifying incomprehensible creatures. Perhaps more so than any male MC I will ever meet in this little lifetime of mine.

After that awkward scenario played out we reached the registration desk where we wrote down our names and were handed two plates with the numbers 1050 and 1051 on them.

They signalled for us to wait in the central plaza while they handed us a scroll that outlined the three tests required to be accepted as a disciple.

It seems passing depends on a points system; passing meant acquiring 15 points in total across the three different tests. The disciples with the top ten point totals at the end would receive additional rewards from the sect to aid in their cultivation. There was a single table on the scroll that outlined the requirements for each point value in each test.

Race

Test of Strength

Test of Fortitude

Position Weight Realm Pressure(withstand for 2 minutes) Points

1-10 500 kg 2nd Realm Semi Transcendent 10

11-20 400 kg 1st Realm Semi Transcendent 9

20-50 350 kg 10th Realm Mortal 8

50-100 300 kg 9th Realm Mortal 7

100-200 250 kg 8th Realm Mortal 6

200-300 200 kg 7th Realm Mortal 5

300-400 150 kg 6th Realm Mortal 4

400-500 100 kg 5th Realm Mortal 3

500-600 75 kg 4th Realm Mortal 2

600-750 50 kg 3rd Realm Mortal 1

750+ <50 kg 2nd Realm Mortal 0

Overall, it seemed simple enough and it didn't appear like there would be much trouble attaining the bare minimum requirement of 15 points to pass.

After I read through the tables provided, an old man entered the central plaza. He wore a cold indifferent look as he gazed upon all the potential disciples crowded around. He seemed to be in deep thought as he searched the crowd until his gaze momentarily stopped on a certain 12 year old 4th realm mortal child before he looked away. After a short moment of silence he finally opened his mouth as an aged voice sounded out.

"Today is the day we of the Good Fortune Sect take in disciples. I'm not fond of wasting words so I'll get to the point; the first test is a race. Points are allocated as outlined in the scrolls you were given when you registered. The race will have you run down the mountain and make a full lap around it before making your way back up through the front gates. That is all."

The crowd seemed to bustle and grew restless due to the short and curt introduction to the first test.

Before anyone could process what was happening he again spoke out. "On your marks. Go."

I could not help but retort in my mind, where's the "get set" in your sentence you lazy posing old man?!

There were several people who stood their dazed unsure whether he was serious or not. However, there were a few individuals who had more experience as they broke away from the crowd with serious expressions as they ran down the mountain at their quickest possible pace. Those who left were all 4th-5th realm mortals which included that little twelve year old child the old man's gaze rested on momentarily earlier.

The old man frowned as he snorted "I said go, are all of you deaf or just brain dead?"

Everyone who was left that stood there stupidly finally felt as if their brains were jolted as they sprang into action. They flusteredly came to their senses as they frenziedly dashed down the mountain. Some pulled others down and trampled upon them while others stayed to the side in fear of such a bad end. I stood there with my wife as we just watched them while they madly dashed down the mountain.

"My wife, did I ever tell you this? I don't like exercise."

"Darling you need to build up your stamina so your nightlife will not disappoint you."

I didn't know how to reply so I just agreed in the end by saying "...fine my wife, let's go."

I moved forward and jogged down the mountain at a leisurely pace. My wife seemed to float slightly above the ground as she followed closely by my side with a smile on her face.

"My wife, are you not cheating right now?"

"From what everyone else can see, it looks like I'm running you know. Only you can see that I'm actually floating and not running."

"Weren't you against me cheating?"

"Did I ever say that? I just said you'd be cheating if you didn't take the test. Besides, if no one else finds out you're cheating, then isn't it fine? But since I can't bear to ever lie to my husband, I naturally cannot cheat without him knowing, so I must naturally show you that I am actually floating."

"My wife are you saying I can cheat as long as you don't find out?"

"Heh heh, I'll remember that you asked that."

"My wife why do you avoid the question and always answer ominously like that?"

"Because you are my darling husband and teasing you is my little joy in this life."

Her smile made me not know whether to laugh or cry as I felt like I was her toy to be teased as she pleased.
