187 Date Both?

"Ash…"

Wuxing muttered, staring at her teared up face, not really knowing what to tell her. A part of him knew about her feelings but back then the situation looked much different, making it impossible for the two to be together.

Being a mercenary was a dangerous job. He could die at anytime after failing his mission and having a lover would only distract him, changing his decision making.

He knew himself well.

If he had a girlfriend waiting for him back at home, he would always choose option with the least risk. In his job, taking a risk was sometimes necessary which was the reason why he didn't push for a relationship even though they were obviously more than friends.

He was about to cheer her up but Ash wiped her eyes with her sleeve and stopped him, raising her hand, "It's okay, don't mind me. It's okay if you don't love me anymore. You have Dongmei now so it would be silly of me to expect anything from you. She is a great girl, you should take care of her."

Her tears were still flowing down her cheeks no matter how much she wiped so she just covered her eyes with her sleeves as if hiding from him.

"Gosh… this is so embarrassing. I shouldn't have confessed knowing what would be the result anyway. I am such a stupid idio—" Ash blamed herself when Wuxing suddenly lunged forward and embraced her, cutting her off sternly, "Stop it."

His sudden hug caused her freeze in place and peek at him confused.

Wuxing closed his face onto her own and declared, "You are not stupid."

"I am. Even now, I still love you and I can't slow down my heart. It's trying to jump out of my chest and now that you are holding me, it's even worse," Ash countered, supporting her body on him. "Tell me, how am I not stupid? Only a stupid woman would still love a man who just rejected her."

"I didn't reject yo—" Wuxing corrected but Ash immediately argued back, "Then you love me back? If you didn't reject me then it means you feel the same? Please, don't give me hope. Either love me or reject me properly. I can't stay in the middle. It hurts. Even if I have to suffer a few years until I finally forget about you, it is better than living with false hope."

"Do you think it is that simple? I can't leave Dongmei. I love her dearly, but I also don't want to lose you. I don't want you to forget about me. All the time we spent with each other in the past. All the special moments. I treasure each and every memory. How do expect me to choose?" Wuxing questioned, looking deeply into her eyes.

One was the love of his life while the other was his best friend of many years, someone who saw all of his up and downs, helping him battle all of them. How can he even compare them? What metric he can even pick?

Ash seemed to be just as troubled as he was. "I don't know, you tell me. I can't stay in the middle, living with hope. If you know you can't love me, I will just leave," Ash decided determined.

"Leave?"

"I can't move on when I'm around you. It's a blessing you returned to me but also a curse. I really don't want to live with pain, watching from the side as you create a happy family with Dongmei," Ash explained with pained voice, grasping her uniform where her heart was and pulled away from him. "I'm strong but you underestimate my strength. Don't I deserve to be loved too?"

"Ash, if there was a world where I could make you both happy, I would gladly live there but it doesn't exist. I can't simply leave Dongmei to be with you. I'm not that kind of a person," Wuxing affirmed and pointed at himself. "If I were to do that, I would not be the person you know and love."

"I thought my Wuxing could always find a solution no matter how hard situation he was put in," Ash commented and finally turned around, closing the conversation. "I guess I was wrong."

Wuxing was already hopeless but he couldn't leave the case at this was and stopped her, "Ash, don't be unreasonable. Put yourself in my situation. There is really no safe solution for our situation. There will always be someone left hurt. Unless I can date both of you at the same time, it's impossible to make you two satisfied."

To his surprise, Ash's back trembled when he said that and she turned around, looking at him with hope in her eyes.

"That's it." Ash called out excitedly. "Can't you just date the two of us at the same time then?"

Wuxing blinked twice, not she if he was hearing right. What he said was obviously an unreasonable example yet Ash took it seriously.

"Ash, both of us know how impossible it is. I was just joking earlier," Wuxing tried to explain yet Ash didn't seem to listen.

"I'm not joking. You are right, this is the only method. The only way to make us happy is dating us both," Ash repeated, wiping her red eyes with her hands, showing a bright and gentle smile.

She stopped crying completely and dove into his arms, hugging him tightly. "I guess I was right. You can always find a solution no matter the case. You are really a genius."

"Wait, hold up. I think you are misunderstanding something. This is not how dating works." Wuxing tried to stop her excitement but she was already in her zone.

"No, I understand it very well. Thank you, this was exactly what we needed," Ash thanked, leaning forward to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Even if you have feelings for us both, you can't accept loving two people as you think that will hurt at least one of the parties. What if both of us agreed? That wouldn't be a problem anymore, right?"

The whole concept was so surreal that Wuxing's head started to hurt. Having two wives? He heard it was quite normal in certain countries but Xuefeng couldn't imagine himself doing it, his endless loyalty already pledged to Dongmei during his proposal.

"Don't blame me, this was your idea," Ash added. "I'm not going to give up on you. If that's the only way for me to receive your love, I'm willing to share you with Dongmei."

Before he could even counter that, Ash released him and headed towards the exit, causing him to grab her in panic. "Where are you going?"

"I'm obviously going to talk to Dongmei about this," Ash replied with a smile and looked at the reflexion of her phone screen to check the condition of her face. "We won't know until we try, right? We have time to make it work but one thing I know for certain. I either ride or die. There is no in between."

Wuxing couldn't count how many times she got him speechless already but he only awakened when she was already leaving, opening the curtain.

"Wait!" Wuxing called out to stop her yet she didn't stop, leaving him behind.

"Damn."

He cursed under his breath and quickly transformed back to Chameleon, following after her. He had to regain the control of the situation before it completely turned into chaos.
