Chapter 50
“I see.”
Marie and Kentrail sat on a bench in the garden late at night when Brielle and the children slept.
He told her what he had known so far.
“I’m glad the Queen wasn’t involved.”
Kentrail then glanced at Maria after her words.
“You’re cousins, anyway.
She was right. If he had been sure the queen was involved, he would have been even more angry at himself.
“Instead, we don’t know the enemy yet.”
At that, Marie nodded her head, and she spit out the words she had in mind.
“Isn’t it possible that the case of the Count’s parents, and the case of your older brother and sister are separate?”
“What?”
It was a thought that Marie had while looking at the moon on a sleepless day. She can no longer remember the book she had read, but when she vaguely remembered her feelings.
Obviously, he took revenge on someone, but he was not satisfied. Then, he hoped he would never get blood on his hands again. And, the moment his sword was pointed elsewhere, he died in Siege’s hand.
“Because I’m not sure… I haven’t been able to speak until this point because I’m afraid that I’m going to blur the direction during the investigation. But, it keeps getting caught up in my heart…”
At Marie’s words, Kentrail thought deeply.
He could not completely rule out her assumptions. If that happened, he would have had to completely change the direction of the investigation.
‘Is the person who killed my parents different from the person who killed my brother? That means they have different wishes.’
If so, who was the person who could benefit the most from killing his brother? This time, it was necessary to find the funds that his brother had independently borrowed and the inheritance law of the empire.
“I’ll try to think about it that way, too.”
She gazed into his warm eyes, thanking him for trusting her words so much.
“Yes. I’ll let you know if I can think of anything more.”
After that, she left the heavy story and continued the slightly brighter stories.
For example, it was the little things, such as how Ellie ended up wearing Barry’s little pants instead of a dress and having fun on the slide.
It was a shame. Time flew by too quickly to continue the story. Both of them were saying that with their eyes. But they had to get in before it was too late.
Eventually, Kentrail drove Marie to the doorstep.
“It’s in the mansion.”
“It’s still late. Don’t forget to go in, lock the front door and go to sleep.”
Only when he heard the confirmation that she had went in and locked the door, did he turn around and return to his room
Finally, the party was held.
People’s clothes became lighter in the sweltering sunlight. Marie and Ellie wore the clothes Kentrail had given them, braided their hair, and went downstairs to the first floor.
There stood Brielle and Barry, assisted by other maids.
Barry was also wearing the costume the Count had prepared for him.
“Wow, you look like a different person when you dress like this.”
Like Ellie’s admiration, Barry was really different. He seemed to have taken off the smell of sweat and wore a refreshing scent even on a summer day.
“You have become a completely different person.”
Beside him, Brielle nodded his head.
The little boy’s eyes were twinkling when Marie and Ellie came down.
It was the first time he’d ever seen them dress up like this. The other employees next to him also continued one by one, saying that it suited them well.
Ellie, the tomboy, blushed as if she was ashamed of such a compliment.
“Marie is really pretty today.”
At Brielle’s praise, Marie turned around in place.
“Is it okay?”
“Yes, that’s really good on you.”
Before he could answer, Kentrail, who was walking in the distance, spoke.
Missing the timing, Briellel expressed his displeasure by inflating his cheeks towards his uncle. However, as Kentrail approached and touched the cheek with one of his fingers and poked it, the dimple caught on with a smile.
“Uncle is cool today, too.”
“Yes, so is Brielle.”
The two wore matching clothes. The sleeves were embroidered with a pattern, the symbol of the county.
“Then, let’s all go.”
At Kentrail’s words, the butler opened the door to the mansion’s entrance. He then guided them to the waiting carriage.
Kentrail put Brielle in the wagon first. Before he could get on, he approached Marie, who was heading to the other carriage.
“Let me.”
Kentrail reached out before Taylor, who was trying to escort Marie and put her on the carriage.
“Thank you.”
She smiled softly at him and then climbed into the carriage. After confirming that she was seated, he escorted Ellie as well.
“It’s an honor, Count.”
Saying that, Ellie was like a full-fledged lady.
He saw her in the carriage up to Barry, and he closed the door. Finally, he got into the carriage that also Brielle was riding. Sir Taylor and Derek, along with other knights, escorted the two wagons.
“Butler, take good care of the mansion.”
Kentrail asked the butler at the end.
“Yes, don’t worry.”
The carriage carrying everyone finally departed for the Royal Palace.
“Whoa…”
The sound of continuous deep breathing echoed from the carriage.
“Ellie, stop it. What makes you so nervous?”
“What about you? I’ve seen you shaking your hands.”
There was a lot of noise in the carriage with Marie, Ellie and Barry. It was because of the two who became more chatty due to the tension.
Marie was equally nervous, so she didn’t even think to silence them.
Eventually, the Palace began to appear through the window. Marie gave the children a strong warning.
“You can’t go and be reckless. You know how to greet people as you learn, right?”
“Yes. Don’t worry. I’ll be quiet and come back.”
Ellie’s words were not reliable.
“And, if you ever run into a dangerous situation, you’ll always run to Sir Taylor. He’ll be around us, okay?”
“When a situation like that comes to my sister, take care of yourself first. Don’t put yourself in a dangerous situation while taking care of us or saving us. I can protect myself now. Okay?”
“Okay.”
Barry spoke to Marie as firmly as if he was an older brother.
The noise of the carriage finally stopped, and they arrived at the Royal Palace.
Marie adjusted her clothes once more and stepped out of the carriage to see the knights’ swords confiscated.
“I’ll have to surrender my sword, too.”
As Barry held out the sword he was wearing, the knight, who was guarding the entrance, took it.
Ellie was holding Marie’s hand and glanced around. The Count’s mansion also had many rooms, and the garden was so spacious that they could look into it all day long. However, here, it seemed to be dozens of times larger than that. She was overwhelmed.
“Ellie.”
Brielle approached the child.
“Young master.”
Turning around, the Count was saying something to the knights in the palace.
Then, unlike the other nobles who gave out invitations and went through the verification process, they just passed.
“Let’s go.”
Following Kentrail’s instructions, who had come to them again, they all moved on.
Instead of looking around the Palace for the first time, Marie took her two younger siblings and Brielle and went inside.
The sound of water was heard in the distance.
“I guess it’s there.”
The scene that unfolded was a complete mockery of Marie’s imagination, who thought it was a pool party. Water was constantly spurting out of a large fountain, and a cool stream of water fell from the sky, for the treatment that was done.
Only a drop or two fell on her face, not really making her clothes get wet.
“It’s amazing.”
The white statues erected in the fountain were looking at them.
“Oh…!”
Ellie exclaimed in admiration as if the tension had escaped at the sight. Brielle was excited as it was his first time attending this party.
As she went inside, she felt the gazes.
“Chancellor.”
More and more people seemed to know Kentrail. He nodded his head and greeted them, although he didn’t talk to anyone. It seemed that he didn’t want to leave Marie and the children alone, even for a moment.
“Brielle!”
Suddenly, the voice of the most familiar person was heard.
“Jayden.”
The two met after a very long time.
Jaden greeted the Count and also greeted Ellie and Barry, whom he had not seen in a long time.
“My father is over there with my mother now.”
Marie followed his gestures and turned her gaze to the Baron. Next to him sat a woman with a neat atmosphere.
She seemed to be Jayden’s mother.
“Brother!”
And, a girl who had followed Jayden approached.
“Sierra.”
“Why are you alone like that…”
The girl who was coming this way paused for a moment when she found the Count’s party.
“The Count and Count’s Heir Apparent. Say your greetings.”
At the words of her brother, Sierra greeted the Count and Brielle. The girl’s face was red.
Jayden was impressed by his first sight of his sister like this. That expression was really awkward, and he didn’t want to see it.
“This one?”
Sierra asked.
“I’m Marie, Brielle’s nanny. These are my younger siblings, Barry and Ellie.”
Marie stepped forward, and she introduced herself and even her two siblings.
“Nice to meet you.”
Sierra couldn’t hide her curiosity and gazed at the three of them. Brielle, whom she saw for the first time, also looked like an angel as he was rumored to be, but she had a great crush on Barry, who also boasts a tall and toned body.
Barry peered at her as he didn’t know what to do.
The person who saved Barry was Siege.
Immediately, he shifted his gaze to follow the gossiping people, and he saw Siege, who was just entering this place.
“Siege!”
Barry greeted him warmly and apologized to those around him before moving away. However, Siege appeared alone, probably from his family members.
“Barry, you’re here.”
“Uh. But, aren’t you supposed to be at the academy?”
He wondered if he had gone out for a while for this party. When Siege went to the academy with him, he seldom went out to attend parties or banquets.
“Oh, didn’t I tell you?”
At those words, Barry’s eyes, filled with curiosity, turned to Siege.
“I took the semester off.”
Barry questioned, surprised to hear that he had taken a leave of absence without a word.
“Why?”
“It’s just… I was bored.”
It was an absurd reason. He can’t believe Siege didn’t go to the academy when he already had skills beyond graduation. He should talk to the professor and find a way to get a graduation exam right away.
Barry’s back was pulled by his friend.
“Huh?”
Whether or not he uttered nonsense, Siege also greeted Barry’s family.
“How’s the wound?”
Marie asked Siege.
“The scars are gone now. Don’t worry.”
Even though Marie was a fallen aristocrat, Siege spoke politely because she was the older sister of his friend. Because of that, she told him to speak comfortably in case the people around him saw him badly, though he pretended not to hear. it
As they were discussing the issue of titles like so, a voice announcing the arrival of the King was finally heard. Everyone’s body was directed there.
Marie swallowed a gulp with tension.
After the King appears, the nobles greet each other in turn. She was of the lowest rank among those gathered now. However, because they were specially invited by the King, after the Duke, marquise, and count had greeted them, they should go to next and offer their greetings.
As Marie took a deep breath and looked at the entrance, the King finally appeared wearing a pure white robe.
She glanced up at the king, who was also a character in the novel.
Brilliant blonde hair accentuated his presence. However, since it was a book she read a long time ago, she was not impressed enough to compare it to the original. Then, the Queen appeared.
Marie was shocked.
She did not know that there could be such beauty in the world.
The eyes of the beautiful woman with slightly copper-colored skin looked fresh yet her outfit looked more modest than anyone here. Her clothes were obviously high-quality materials, though they were not adorned with fancy jewels or the likes.
Maybe, that’s what made her face look more alive.
Everyone bowed their heads and greeted them. The King then raised his hand, greeted them, and sat down.
Now, it was time to say their greetings.
