Chapter 60
Kentrail had a feeling that the children would have gone to see Jaz since Siege, an independent character, and Barry, who would have risked himself by following his friend, were drawn.
“Find out where Jaz often goes.”
“Yes, Master.”
The knight commander went out according to the Count’s orders.
“I’m sorry.”
Marie apologized to him.
“What do you mean, sorry? Don’t think that way. The children must all be thinking, so they acted that way.”
It was all because they thought to keep it a secret from her…
‘If I had known she would make a face like this, I would have kept it a secret.’
She didn’t like her looking fidgety and apologetic to him.
“Are they really going to see Jaz?”
“Well, other than that, there’s no reason to sneak out that night. No matter where they go, they won’t be pushed since both are swordsmen, so don’t worry too much. Besides, the Kaylor Knights can’t harm Siege.”
Now that the seat of the head of the family was vacant, the person they followed would be Jaz, though since Siege was also a strong candidate for the head of the family, it would not be possible to do so.
“Yes…”
His words didn’t make her worry disappear, so Marie’s face wasn’t bright.
“Is it here?”
The children frowned at the unfamiliar scenery. In the backstreets, where there were a lot of pubs, there were people of all kinds, from drunk and screaming to people who vomited in the street, in crazy shapes.
“I…guess?”
Siege, who came out confidently, also frowned when he saw this scenery. It was impossible to adapt as the children had only resided in the academy for the past years.
“Come on, let’s go.”
Thinking that the only way to get out of this place quickly was to find Jaz, the two children hurried to their feet. Finally, the sign of the bar that Siege was talking about appeared. Entering there, Barry seemed to suffocate.
The ventilation was not good, and the smell of cigars filled the room with a musty smell.
“There it is.”
Saying so, Siege moved his steps at the same time as those words.
Fortunately, Jaz was there. He was telling the people around in a loud voice as if he drank too much today.
“I will soon inherit our family. This is it. You’ll see. You’ll see.”
The people sitting around Jaz were busy chasing his occasional golden bell.
“Of course, you must inherit the family.”
“Nevertheless, the last time I saw your brother, it seemed like he was weak.”
Barry heard that and glanced at Siege. No matter how you look at it, either Siege, who trained as a swordsman at the academy, or Jaz, who played and ate in the mansion, which one of them looked weak.
Siege placed his hand on Jaz’s shoulder with an unhesitating gesture.
“Huh, what?”
As Jaz looked at him, he turned his head as he spoke his words with a nervous tone.
“Who is this? Not the foe who killed all of my parents…!”
Eyes were drawn to his loud voice.
‘Who killed whom?’
Barry stared at Jaz with a hardened face.
“Why did you come here to kill me now?”
“Let’s go out and talk.”
Siege, who didn’t want to show their family quarrels to the people around them, told Jaz.
“Oh, I’m scared. Why do you have to take me somewhere and kill me? Everyone, keep a close eye on this face. If I’m found dead tomorrow, it’s all this guy’s work.”
Saying that, Jaz chuckled and laughed.
Hearing that, Barry clicked his tongue, wondering that people could be so mean. He wondered how a man sitting drunk in the capital’s tavern could be Siege’s older brother, apart from Kaylor’s side.
Siege thought he wouldn’t do it, so he grabbed Jaz with both hands and wrapped it around him.
Everyone around him turned into a bewildered face.
“Ex… excuse me…”
However, the people here believed that Siege was a vicious person as much as they believed in him, so they could not stand in the way of him willingly.
“Let go of this. What are you doing now!”
Jaz, hanging on his shoulder, shouted.
Although the drunken man might be heavy, Siege moved on with his unwavering steps.
“Don’t worry, I’ll throw you back at this bar tomorrow morning.”
After Siege spoke to the bar owner, he went outside. Barry quickly followed behind. The place where the two children took Jaz was a sparsely populated vacant lot.
When Siege put him down, Jaz, who had been hanging upside down, vomited for a while.
“You—*gurgle*…”
Seeing that, Barry looked at him and threw the water bottle he had. It was a waste to give even a drop of water to such a person, though it seemed that the conversation would not be possible without this.
Jaz hurriedly rinsed his mouth with water but quench his thirst.
‘He thinks Siege is going to kill himself, yet he drinks the water I give him without any doubt. In fact, he probably knew that Siege was not the type of person who would kill him.’
Barry continued to speculate while looking at Jaz’s wretched look.
“Why did you kill our parents?”
Siege, who had been watching quietly next to him, finally opened her mouth.
“Huh, what did you just say. Who killed whose parents now!”
Jaz shouted, throwing the water bottle.
“Why? Did you covet the position of Lord so much? That’s why you kill your parents!”
It was still the basis for those who believed that Siege killed the head of the Kaylor family. Jaz said he’d be the Lord anyway if he stayed still, so he had no reason to kill his parents.
“It’s funny. You must have known better than anyone that I wasn’t interested in the position? I’ve been in the academy for the past year because I want brother to get the head position.”
“If anyone sees it, they’ll know that I’ve yielded. You’re crazy about swords, so you went to the Academy. No, actually, you wanted to lead with what you’re good at. But, things didn’t go your way, so you killed our parents. Seriously, how many geniuses do you think there are? I only found out when I was in the neighborhood trying to look cool and caught some swordsmen.”
As Barry listened to Jaz, he realized that the man had no knowledge of Siege’s swordsmanship skills in the slightest.
‘If he had seen Siege’s skills, he would never have said such a thing.’
After watching for a while, he could see that Jaz had a feeling of inferiority towards his brother..
“You don’t remember?”
Siege, who had been listening to Jaz for a while, asked.
“Can’t you remember what brother said when you were drunk? I went to the academy for someone…”
Siege looked empty in his eyes as if it was futile that he had decided his own life because of such a person.
“I went to the academy because of what my brother said while drunk. It was like that back then. ‘Please, go, wherever you go!’ Do you remember what you said while holding my shoulder, saying that you might be pushed out of the head position because of me?”
The people under the Kaylor family knew that Siege was a better fit for the head. So, before he threw everything away and went to the academy, they had asked his father if he wanted to leave the Kaylor family to his second son as much as possible.
However, the head of the Kaylor, who wanted to give the family to his eldest son, was relieved to see the younger son who had left.
“Ha! When did I say that? I have a natural sense of ownership.”
Barry stared pathetically at the self-praising Jaz.
‘Born to be the head means someone like the Count. Come to think of it, it seems like it was dawn, but they haven’t realized that we’re gone.’
With that thought, Barry, who had secretly planned to go back, became anxious when the time was running out.
“So, I’m asking. Why the hell did you kill your parents? If you stayed still, brother would have taken over the family.”
“Who’s asking whom? I wasn’t there that day. There’s no one else to testify to that. Though you’re just a witness to seeing your parents murdered in the mansion, aren’t you?”
At Jaz’s words, Barry wondered if it would have been better to find the maid instead of finding Jaz.
He turned around, lest they hear him threatening witnesses.
Nevertheless, it would have been better off going there and asking questions than dealing with a drunkard like him.
“They went to the bar.” The knight commander hastily said to Kentrail.
“Are they still there?”
“No, they said they went somewhere together with Jaz…”
“Oh, my God.”
Hearing the words, Marie placed her hand on her forehead.
“Didn’t the Kaylor family knights discourage him?”
“That’s why he drinks and shouts by himself every day. The knights don’t seem to follow him anymore.”
The knight commander continued to answer the Count’s question.
“I’ll have to go myself.”
“I’ll go, too.”
She hurriedly followed Kentrail and stood up.
“Trust me and stay here. Without you, Ellie and Brielle, will be shaken.”
At his words, she nodded her head.
“Yes, I got it.”
Kentrail stroked Marie’s hair once and left the office.
The children continued to struggle with the drunkard until dawn came to Kentrail to find them. They would wait until he sobered up.
“Will the Count find us?”
“I’m sorry.”
“No.”
The two of them stared at Jaz, who was lying on the floor and still screaming.
“Isn’t it because he was drunk?”
It was the worst assumption ever to have been drunk and killed his parents. So, Siege struggled to deny it and shook his head.
“I hope not.”
“Yes… But, I didn’t know that was the reason you came to the academy.”
Now, Barry understood why he didn’t graduate early when he passed the semester. It was understandable that he was wandering because he didn’t want to go back to the mansion on vacation.
“Well… It wasn’t hard.”
Siege calmly talked about the past.
“I thought everyone was living like that.”
It was when he went to Barry’s house and found out that not everyone lives that way… that there were houses that care for each other and created smiles just by looking at their faces.
“However, no matter how you look at it, I don’t think the maid was mistaken…”
Looking at Siege like that, Barry brought up the story.
“What?”
“Until I saw brother in person, I thought she was mistaken because we had similar physiques. Nevertheless, in reality, we are completely different. Even though it was a crazy situation…”
Perhaps, the maid was also bribed, Barry thought.
“There is no record of money coming and going. The maid has no reason for a maid to do that for brother.”
He looked at his older brother lying on the empty lot and still gibberish.
“What’s the maid’s position…?”
Siege shook his head at Barry’s words.
“In a small family like ours, a position like that is not very powerful. At best, you will only get a little bit more salary.”
“Really?”
Barry, who lived in a large family like the Count, didn’t know much about the small family.
“What are you guys doing here?”
Eventually, the voice of the person who came to the two of them was heard.
