Jean took out her cell phone. As soon as she saw the name on the screen, her face had a complicated expression appear on it.
"What is it?" Zed watched the change of expression of Jean's face and immediately realized something was wrong. Wanting to know what it was, he quickly asked her.
After heaving a long sigh, Jean passed the cell phone to Zed.
Zed took it with puzzlement. After he saw the name "Joy" on the screen, he realized what the problem was. "Let me talk to her," Zed said wanting Jean to relax.
In truth, Jean really didn't feel like talking to Joy, so she nodded her head to Zed's offer.
Zed pressed the connect button. Before he could open his mouth, Joy's anxious voice came through the other end of the line. "Jean, Shirley is in big trouble. Could you please save her…..."
Zed quietly heard until she was finished.
Realizing she was done, he said,"Jean is taking a shower. I will ask her to call you back when she comes out." A moment of silence followed on the other end of the call, but Joy's worried panting was still audible to him. A few seconds later, Joy seemed to make up her mind and her tone was somewhat composed. She begged,"Zed, could you please help me to save Shirley? Winner is gone. Now all I have is Shirley. I can't let anything bad happen to her again. So please save her for the sake of the Wen family, as you are Henry's son-in-law, okay?"
Zed wrinkled his nose. He was well aware that Joy had the tendency to change her tone when she needed something.
"I am sorry. I don't think I have such a close relationship with you. So I have to say no." Zed turned her down without giving it a second thought.
"Zed, please. I beg you. I will do whatever you want me to do. I will give you anything you want if you help me now. Okay? Please…" Joy used a pleading tone and carried on begging. After a while, She started to cry on the other end of the line.
Zed frowned and looked at Jean who was watching him carefully.
Actually, Zed had put her on speaker when he pressed the connect button, so Jean had heard the entire conversation between them.
Confused, Jean wondered what had happened that put Joy into such a condition. Joy, who had been selfish an
"Do you know what you did wrong? It's alright if you just wanted to own me. But you should not have helped Molly leave me!"
When Brian learns the truth, there is no chance for Hannah to win his heart.
Molly, who wants to run away from Brian, seems to be the only one to blame for Hannah's misfortune...
and put her hand on the cell phone to stop Joy from hearing her conversation with Zed. "It is a matter of life and death after all. No matter what grudges I have with Shirley, I can't sit back and do nothing…"
"You'd better do nothing about it!" Zed watched Jean and sighed. "You can't get involved in this. I won't let you put yourself in danger."
"Zed…" Jean watched him feeling defensive. "You know, if I don't help and something bad happens to Shirley in the end, then I will feel guilty all my life. Joy will hate me for the rest of her life too because of that. I don't care if I can succeed in saving Shirley or not, but I still have to give it a try."
"Idiot…" Zed sighed. "It has nothing to do with you. Why do you have to get involved in that trouble? Either Shirley is alive or dead, it is none of your concern."
"But the Wen family is not what it used to be. Winner had been killed. If something happens to Shirley, the Wen family is all gone…" Jean wouldn't give up persuading Zed to let her help.
Zed watched Jean's face and then sighed looking disappointed. "Okay. You say yes to her. But you can't do it. I will do it."
"No, Zed." To his surprise, Jean shook her head and watched Zed. "I agreed to save Shirley because I have other intention."
"What intention?" Zed was startled and he asked without thinking.
"You heard it just now. The person who kidnapped Shirley also killed Winner. I have to know how Winner died," Jean said gravely.
