"What's the matter? Why are you asking me this all of a sudden?" Zed asked Jean. His face was masked with curiosity and worry.
"No, don't worry about it. It's nothing serious. I just wanted to know something about it. That's all," Jean assured Zed with a smile. "I think Connie and her family are good people. They deserve your help."
"Although the living conditions of the citizens in H city have greatly improved in the past couple of years, the peasants are still living a difficult life. It's a pity you didn't see Victor today. Victor has a very strong and healthy body. But since he never had a chance to get a proper education, he has no choice but to work hard on the farm. I can't imagine how tiring it must be for him." Zed shook his head in disbelief. "His salary can barely even make end meet for him and his family. What he earns in a year goes straight to his family's daily expenses. But I can see he has great potential skill, especially when it comes to planting and tending the crops at the manor. That's why I think it was a good idea to leave Victor and his wife in charge of the manor."
Zed breathed out a sigh of relief and smiled to himself.
"Well, now that you've told me about Victor, I can't wait until our next visit!" Jean exclaimed with excitement. "I hope I'll be able to get to meet him by then."
"I'll introduce you to him on our next visit so you two can have a chat. I think you'll like him,"
Zed replied. For some reason, Jean couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Zed looked like he was in such a good mood. Jean noticed this, and soon, her laughter waned.
'I don't know why I still feel so uneasy, ' Jean thought to herself. She looked out the window, deep in thought. 'It's silly that I'm thinking about something that hasn't even happened.
That girl is too young.
If she plays any tricks on me, I'm sure I'll be able to handle it.'
Jean took a deep breath, feeling a bit more relaxed.
The car sped down the unpaved road, a cloud of dust trailing behind. They passed by the suburban area at a quick and steady pace.
Not long after, they had arrived at the Qi Mansion. Zed woke up Juan who was sound asleep in the backseat. He shook Juan's shoulder a bit vigorously, calling out his name three times before Juan finally woke up.
Juan raised his head, his eyes still heavy with sleep. He still felt woozy from the long drive. He yawned and looked out of the window, only then realizing that they had already arrived at their destination.
Juan opened the car door and rolled out, falling onto the ground. He propped himself out as he rubbed his eyes, and stumbled towards the mansion. He nearly tripped over a couple of times before he had finally reached his room.
Jean couldn't help but laugh out loud at Juan's childish behavior.
Zed and Jean made their way to the mansion, hand in hand. They walked towards the living room and slumped back on the sofa. Jean rested her head on Zed'
When her sister ran away from the wedding, Autumn was forced to marry Charles.
His name had been linked to innumerable ladies.
He had different girlfriends for every day of a year.
Autumn had never thought that she would fall in love with him.
and flung her arms around Zed. Zed laughed as he tried to maintain his balance. They walked out the mansion, closing the door behind them, and made their way back to the car. "Where are we going?" asked Jean.
"Just at the mall. Let's buy some clothes for you. You've been pregnant for some time now. We need to get you some maternity clothes. We also need to pick out a wedding gift for Maranda."
"Yeah, that's a good idea! Zed, you're so nice to me. I love you so much, baby," Jean said excitedly. "I've been thinking about what I should get Maranda for a while now. I'm so happy you'll help me pick one out for her!"
"Jean, you and Maranda are good friends. I'm sure she'll like whatever you give her." Zed opened the car door and helped Jean sit in. He went over the other side to the driver's seat and started the car. Soon, they were on their way downtown.
Jean was awfully quiet during the drive. She was still thinking about what she should get for Maranda. Zed noticed that Jean looked bothered.
"Don't worry too much. There are a lot of things at the mall. You're bound to find the perfect gift for Maranda," Zed said comfortingly. He reached for Jean's hand, his other hand held tightly on the steering wheel.
Jean let out a laugh. Right now, she didn't know if it was out of happiness or panic.
'Did you really think it's that easy to find the perfect gift? Come on! Maranda will only marry once in her whole life. As her good friend, I naturally hope that the wedding gift I give her will make her happy. The gift must convey my best wishes for her.
Zed, do you think choosing a wedding gift for a good friend is as easy as shopping for your own clothes? And you can just buy whatever you like?
We still have to make sure that if the gift is suitable for Maranda or not! After all, marriage is the most important thing in one's life.
Well, now I can tell from your words that you are not good at choosing gifts at all, ' Jean thought.
