"It's all right. I am fine." Juan wiped away the tears on his face and gazed at Jean for a while before finally calming down enough to continue with a sigh. "I am sorry Jean. I didn't mean to scare you or anything. It's just that I had never thought of it that way. And when you spoke just now, you reminded me of everything I was proud of in the army."
"What do you mean? I don't understand." Jean was confused.
"Until a few years ago, I was too attached to the word 'honor' and made it much too important in my life to be practical. I was under the impression that I was engaged in the most sacred career of the world. But now, I feel like nothing matters."
Juan shook his head and smiled bitterly.
The pessimistic response seemed to horrify Jean, who quickly tried to explain with an anxious look on her face. "Juan, don't get me wrong. You are right in feeling the honor of your occupation in the past. I am just an ordinary woman with no knowledge of what you went through. I didn't mean to hurt you and if that happened, I apologize."
"No Jean, you were the one who was right, not me." Juan stopped her midway through her apology. "You have assessed me correctly. It has been so long now, but I still haven't forgotten about the past glories and moved on. I still haven't found the courage to face reality. I think you deserve my gratitude for waking me up out of my dreams."
For some reason, Jean didn't feel comfortable about seeing Juan in such a mood, but she knew that there was no way to make it up now, no matter what she said.
Juan was already lost deep in his thoughts and couldn't get out.
"What? What happened?"
Jean was almost on her edge when she heard Zed's angelic voice float in. He had appeared on the stairs just now and noticing that something was wrong. He had gotten confused.
His presence made Jean feel comfortable and she dashed towards him, as she whispered with pressed lips into his ears, "Zed, I think I said a few things I shouldn't have just now."
"What things?" Zed took Jean's hand and led her into the living room.
Juan was surprised at Zed's sudden appearance and questio
"You're my wife in name only, on paper only. My heart and love will never be yours."
Edward made it clear to Daisy that she was nothing to him. They were both victims of family greed -- the marriage was arranged for them.
Six years passed. She remained quiet, gaining a reputation in the army as a tough-as-nails colonel. When she walked into his life again, Edward fell in love with this woman...
not what you were and have changed your life story altogether, are you sure that they won't come after you? After us?
The reason why I don't want to know about it is that I don't want to face the bloody consequences of the past. Zed, Juan, your current easy life is an illusion. I don't want you to think of the past because of me. This is my way of showing my respect to you. Although I don't know about your lifestyle, I am sure that you can handle it well and easily overcome any obstacle that comes your way. But, still, I am really worried..."
"Jean, stop it..." Zed interrupted her by holding her hands tightly and comforted her. "I understand why you're worried, but I can tell you that such a day as you fear will never come."
"Why?" Jean looked at Zed and asked, feeling puzzled.
"If I had known earlier what you were worried about this, I would've told you. Our identity was completely hidden. Every time we went on a task, we would disguise ourselves, the sole purpose of which, was to mislead the opponents and protect ourselves, in case the opposing side decided on revenge later on.
After the team was disbanded, the files of every single member of that team were destroyed. There is no way that somebody can find us because there is no one who knows who we are and what we did. So, we are safe now. If not, Juan wouldn't have been able to establish his business empire around the world so easily."
