Yanni turned to Avery and put on a smile as she said, "Vikki, I recognize you. You're the superstar who has acted in many Hollywood films. You look way better than what you look like in your pictures."
"Thank you for the flattery." Avery shot a quick glance at Yanni as she added in a polite but cold tone, "By the way, who are you?"
"I..." Yanni raised the corners of her lips into a mysterious smile and replied, "You can guess."
"You want me to guess?" Avery bursted out laughing and continued, "I've been sitting here for about half an hour and you haven't even bothered to grace us with a glance. All I could see was you trying to hitch up a conversation with Zed. Aren't you aware that Zed is married? I'm saying this for your own benefit. It's a well-known fact that Zed adores his beloved wife Jean and remains committed to her. Don't you, Zed?"
Avery turned to Zed with a sly smile as though to confirm whether he was in agreement to what she just claimed about him.
Zed was annoyed with the direction in which this conversation was proceeding. For the time being, he chose to remain calm and serene.
He always got grossly uncomfortable when women fought each other. He had constructed a belief inside himself that women fought for petty and silly issues just for the sake of it.
He sensed that the atmosphere around had grown tensed due to their quarrel.
It was pretty obvious that Avery was trying to forbid Yanni from trying to hit on Zed.
Zed had figured it out as well. He understood that Avery was only being a faithful friend to both him and his wife, Jean.
Had Jean briefed them over anything a while ago?
With this thought in mind, Zed turned his attention to Jean, who was currently seated right next to him.
Jean was beaming at Avery at the moment.
Her smile seemed to indicate that she was joyful rather than angry.
Noticing that, Zed calmed down and deduced that Jean had no role to play in this quarrel.
"Yeah," Zed replied, nodding. He looked at Jean and said with a tender smile, "If it wasn't that way, what would have been the significance of getting married if the husband doesn't care for his wife?"
Jean was surprised to hear Zed's words. She immediately broke into a laughter.
She had almost forgotten that her relationship with Zed had survived so many struggles that it was firm enough.
If Yanni had an intention to break Zed and Jean apart, she ought to have been day dreaming.
Jean realized that she couldn't let Yanni affect her
It all starts on that fateful night.
When Ella, who is the dear sister of Samuel’s best buddy, sneaks into the hotel where the drunken Samuel resides and gets pregnant…
"I don’t want a divorce!"
"I don’t want a divorce!"
"I did no such thing!"
Ella jumped on the bed and cried out. “I don’t want a scheming woman as my wife. Just sign the paper...
ile, her eyes had never ceased observing Avery.
She realized that it was Avery's intervention that sent Zed away. She couldn't help but feel extremely angry at her.
"What do you want?" Yanni asked, her face burning with fury.
"That's exactly what I was about to ask you!" Avery was quite surprised with the fact that Yanni could switch her facial expressions in a moment's notice because Yanni didn't look like that a second ago when Zed was around. She indeed was a chameleon.
'Why didn't she become an actress or a model?
Considering her exemplary acting skills, she would have definitely earned an Oscar for Best Actress category," Avery thought.
"Jean is the hostess here. Who do you think you are to throw yourself to Zed all the time and keep flirting with him?" Avery asked, without keeping any barrier.
Jean was touched by Avery's aid because she knew that she wouldn't have been able to act so furiously against Yanni.
Jean had simply chosen to trust Zed so that she wouldn't have to fight against Yanni for it. But Avery stood out for her. That really touched Jean's heart deeply. Avery went out of the way in order to protect her.
It hadn't been a long time since their friendship flourished. But their relationship was much firmer than usual friendships.
At the moment, Jean was glad to have met a friend like Avery who stood for her in times of need.
Meanwhile in Zed's study, Moore and Zed had just stepped into the room. Zed asked, "What is it that you want to talk about?"
"Jean, and the mysterious woman downstairs," Moore replied, looking into Zed's eyes as though his eyes meant to convey much more than what words could.
