"Yanni, it's not your fault." Wesley felt a stab of anxiety on hearing Yanni say her piece. He added in haste, "It's REALLY not your fault."
Wesley was wringing her hands in helplessness. Noticing this, Yanni was touched at him being so concerned. She soothed him immediately, "Fine. You have just woken up and shouldn't exert too much. Don't say anything for now. Take some good rest and let your body recover properly."
Wesley slightly nodded but his eyes refused to budge from Yanni's face. It was as if he were afraid that she might disappear all of a sudden.
His unwavering gaze made Yanni flush red with embarrassment. Though she tried hard to ignore Wesley's eyes, her acting cool and calm wasn't working at all.
Yanni's flushed face drove the point home for Wesley. He realized the effect he had on her and then turned his eyes electrified by the tension between them. Soon enough, the air was so thick that it could be cut by a knife.
Yanni finally relaxed when she saw Wesley turn his eyes away. She realized that Wesley was feeling embarrassed as well. After all, she had been in a relationship once so she summoned up her courage soon.
"Wesley, I have something to tell you,"
Yanni said, looking at Wesley.
"What is it?" Wesley still didn't dare look at Yanni so he spoke in a quiet tone but looked away.
"After what happened yesterday evening, I got in touch with my feelings after what seems like a really long time. I actually care about you. If you don't mind that I haven't completely forgotten Kenneth, would you consider dating me?"
Yanni looked straight at Wesley taking in the smallest of movements as she waited for an answer.
Wesley had hardly seen this coming. He was amazed to hear Yanni reciprocate feelings for him. Astonished and excited, Wesley slowly mumbled, "Yan... Yanni... are you serious?" Wesley's eyes were lit up and his face looked animated. He peered into Yanni's eyes to judge the seriousness behind her words.
"Of course, I'm serious. Have I ever kidded you before?" Yanni answered with a sincere expression.
"Am I dreaming now?" Wesley looked at Yanni's tender face and still couldn't believe what Yanni had just said. He kept on staring at Yanni, shocked and in awe.
Meanwhile, Yanni didn't say anything but look at Wesley with a bright smile.
There was palpable tension in the room and Wesley's feelings were all topsy turvy as he took a while to digest the news.
A couple of minutes later, Wesley calmed
“Who does she think she is? I won’t marry her even if she is the last woman on earth,” said Hiram Rong.
“Marry into a family with tens of billions of assets? How lucky I am! I won’t be so foolish as to break off the engagement. At worst, I can receive money as part of the divorce settlement,” said Rachel Ruan.
Their great-grandfathers made a pact about their engagement a hundred years ago...
atmosphere was too quiet for them as they felt slight unease creeping in.
So they broke the silence at the same time.
After saying that, they looked into each other's eyes and burst into laughter at the irony.
Without saying anything, they could learn what the other was thinking just from looking into the other's eyes.
Their unsaid understanding had gotten cultivated in the last two years and now it showed at this moment.
Holding hands, they looked into each other's eyes. There was warmth and electricity in the air as their suppressed feelings were now out in the open.
When Jean woke up and got out of the bed, it was already dark.
"Did I really sleep for three days?"
Jean murmured, stretching out her arms.
After washing up and getting herself dressed, Jean took a look at the time.
It was already eight o'clock in the evening.
Feeling starved, Jean half-smiled to herself.
No wonder she felt hungry. She hadn't eaten anything in ten hours!
So she put on her slippers and stepped out of the bedroom.
The moment she got downstairs, she heard the noise of the car trumpet.
Was Zed back?
If so, they could have dinner together.
Thinking of that, Jean rushed outside in delight.
When she walked outside, she saw Yanni and Zed get out of the car.
"Yanni," Jean called with surprise in her voice. Then she said with joy, "You are back. Then Wesley must be out of danger, right?"
"Yeah," Yanni replied and didn't make a move. She just stood there and stared at Jean with a complicated look.
"What's the matter? Why are you looking at me like this? It's a little weird," Jean asked all confused.
