All the while, Jean was sitting quietly beside, happy to simply listen into their conversation.
When Kirk addressed the question to her, she was caught by surprise.
"Jean, is it okay with you?"
Kirk asked her.
"I..." she stammered, forcing herself a small smile. "Well, I'm happy to help... if you don't mind my clumsiness, that is."
One of the last things Jean knew how to do was to arrange a wedding. And now, she was getting asked to arrange Kirk and Elizabeth's!
What kind of help could she possibly do? Where and how on earth should she start? Jean was absolutely clueless.
Inevitably, Sara would help in hosting Kirk's wedding. Jade would be able to help with favors, and probably knew a lot of people and connections to help make the ideal wedding for Kirk and Elizabeth.
But, of all people, why did Kirk ask help from Jean?
She was an inexperienced, pregnant woman who was in a foreign city.
This was why Kirk's request really surprised Jean, and was doubtful whether or not he was serious. Looking at the expectant look on Kirk's face, she couldn't help but let out a slight laugh.
It was obvious that Kirk wasn't convinced with Jean's reply, but he saw the hesitance on her face. "I know it's a really big thing to ask of you," Kirk said to Jean with a sigh. "Don't worry about it too much. My mom and the wedding service company will arrange everything. It's just that it's Elizabeth's first time to come here," he explained. "I'm just afraid she won't feel comfortable.
You're almost the same age as she is, and will have an easier time to find things to talk about. Which is why, if it's not too much to ask, I want you to accompany and take care of her whenever I'm out..."
So that was it!
When Kirk cleared things out, Jean let out a breath of relief. "It's my pleasure, Kirk," she said to him with a smile, "I promise I'll do my best to take care of her and make her feel at home."
Kirk beamed at Jean, feeling at ease to hear her words.
Meanwhile, Zed looked at Kirk with a frown. "Have you decided on a wedding date yet?" Zed asked.
"Yes, my father can't wait any more," Kirk replied. Although there was still a smile on his face, his eyes turne
“Who does she think she is? I won’t marry her even if she is the last woman on earth,” said Hiram Rong.
“Marry into a family with tens of billions of assets? How lucky I am! I won’t be so foolish as to break off the engagement. At worst, I can receive money as part of the divorce settlement,” said Rachel Ruan.
Their great-grandfathers made a pact about their engagement a hundred years ago...
lk about it, I'll stop prying," she said softly, "But you have to promise that you will take care of yourself."
Zed hugged her tighter, looking down at her with warm eyes. "Don't worry about me. I'm fine. It's just..."
Zed bit his lip, looking conflicted about something. He said nothing more, and lifted her in his arms, striding into their bedroom.
Jean's confusion grew bigger.
Just now, Zed looked like he wanted to say something, but he stopped halfway, probably thinking it wasn't a good idea.
Without breaking a sweat, he went inside the room and closed the door behind them with a light kick. After, he walked towards their bed. Jean blushed, thinking that Zed wanted to have sex.
'Is he planning what I think he's planning?'
At the moment, Jean felt overwhelmed with embarrassment.
She was now passed her first trimester, and everything seemed to be going smoothly with her pregnancy.
On top of that, the doctor said it was okay to have sex during pregnancy.
But, given Jean's delicate condition, Zed controlled himself not to make love with her as often as they had once done.
She didn't expect that Zed would...
Overfilled with both shyness and excitement, Jean looked expectantly at Zed.
But to her surprise, Zed did nothing but tuck her into bed, looked down at her for a second, and sighed. "I'm going to take a shower,"
he said, and walked into the bathroom.
Jean gawked at his back, wondering what had happened.
